Means nothing really.

John Terry was a Man United fan. Jamie Carragher was an Everton fan, Ole was a Liverpool fan, Harry Kane was an Arsenal fan. All went on to be incredible servants for the teams they played for.

Professional players are generally pretty professional.

Oh no I agree. I'm simply quoting the guy who thinks playing for the badge is actually realistic in today's era.

You don’t replace a player that was touted as a future ballon d’or winner with someone that the Swansea fans don’t even rate.

I’m all for signing James as project. But if he is being brought in as first team regular then we are in big trouble.
What Swansea fans?

Both my mates are Swansea fans (bless) and watch all home games... rate him

He got young player of the season award (admittedly not a huge pointer) and Tom Coleman (Welsh football journalist) picked him as Swansea's overall (not just young) player of the year.

That doesn't mean they're all right or James is going to be a star but a few miserable Swansea fans shouting their mouth off on social media means diddly either.

Fair point mate.

You only have two mates?

You could make the same arguement against Martial.

If our first eleven isn't good enough, then our squad certainly isn't. I'm all for buying someone young that has room to grow regardless of his initial status in the squad.

Just hope he's hungry for it and works hard, unlike some of our other players.

Hate to say this but if he made a meal more of the times he is blatantly being fouled (from the times I've seen him), there would be a lot more players getting sent off. Its very rare to see a player getting taken out so cynically and jump straight back up, which is commendable in this day and age but unfortunately usually only results in just a yellow for the opposition player...

Ole is playing 4d chess. With VAR coming next season, he'll earn many penalties for us, whether they need to foul him when he runs at them soo fast which is likely to concede a penalty or doesn't foul him = James making cutback passes that put a great chance on a plate for us to finish it off. Tough job for a fullback.

Was really good when ive seen him, not a bad signing, however already been 21 and i'd say still has a lot of improving to do to be a first team regular in a top 6 club, is a bit worrying. But we need more attacking options and the kid is quick and talented and a great shot. If he's got the right attitude he could be a good signing at that price.

TIL a player should be the finished article at 21.

You’d swear people are being asked to pay for it out of their own pocket!

We’ve all spent the last few months saying we need to recruit more hungry young players with potential and hundreds have been named. We’ve all snorted with derision when “Star” names have been suggested. “Let’s not make those mistakes again! Remember Sanchez!” You all cried.

Now we’re in for a young British player with big potential- the type that you’d all cry “why didn’t we sign him from Swansea!? Bloody scouts!!” as we line up a £60m deal to get him from Everton.

Is it because he’s not foreign? Genuine question. Or because it’s under the radar and few of you have seen him play?
True, GB. He fits the system, and fits the profile of Ole wants to. Seems like some just learned nothing from Liverpool and Spurs successes on developing their teams.

Also people understand that we don't have unlimited budget, and there are so many positions to clear out. But still some are still moaning when we're interested on cheap 15m players. It's a funny time.

Who did Liverpool sign from the lower leagues exactly? I mean your point might have some validity but couldn't think of a worse example than Liverpool.

I have no idea what TIL is...... apart from the obvious

I also never said the should be the finished article, depends how close they are away from been the finished article, which no one ever is as players are always adapting and changing. All I was saying is 21/22 is probably when you want a player to be their or their about the level where they are gonna be good enough to get into the first team.

Point taken. Not lower League. But more on the vision taking shots on players that fit their system, instead of based on "names".

I'm very willing to try and develop players like this. Coming in late for players who've just signed a 5 year deal with their club and being quoted 70 million is not sustainable. We also have a problem these days of 30-50 million not being that attractive for a club with the money swashing around.

They got Joe Gomez from Charlton. And someone from Bolton, whose name I can't remember, though I don't know if he's played for the first team yet.

Can't think of any others.

they signed Andrew Robertson from Hull. It was the Summer after they were relegated into the Championship so technically right. He had just played a season in the Premier League

a signing not many people paid any attention to and hes turned out to be one of the best left backs in the World imo

Gomez.
Robertson signed when Hull had just been promoted.
Wijnaldum signed after being relegated.

As he's right footed, maybe he could become the long term answer to the right wing problem!
