He's a left winger but doesn't seem like a hug-the-line type. I wonder if this means the end of Martial. It would make sense if you take Ole at his word when he said that some players had played their last game for United.

Never in a million years is this lad a replacement for Martial

Robertson 8 million from Hull
Arnold came up through youths.

If the scouts do their job, there are young players from the lower divisions who can be turned into stars. Why do fans always want ready made players when most have failed here.

A lot to do with superior coaching, and clear plan at the purcashing club aswell.

I'm sure Liverpool did this because they couldn't compete with the fees we were paying for players like Shaw, Martial, etc at the time, they'd have maybe turned them into even better than what they've got if they'd got hold them
instead of us.

Yes we could have got Robertson, I wish we had, but would he have developed here as well as he has at Liverpool. The mess this club has been I doubt it. I am hoping Ole will be able to do that. Otherwise what is the point of signing development projects if we are incapable of developing them in the first team.

Correct. We've seen no evidence yet of James standing still for long periods, not taking on the man and just passing it backwards, not running off the ball to make space/options for other players. Clearly James has a lot to do to make the first 11.

There’s far more to it than that. He was signed by some club for £300k, and 5 weeks later we bought him for £7.4m from that club, who Bebe never played a competitive game for, just a handful of pre-season games. It’s true Fergie never saw him play, but the whole deal was to funnel money to his agent - Jorge Mendes! Who only became Bebe’s agent a week before being transferred to Utd. Mendes received around £3m of the £7.4m fee!!

Shady stuff and im not surprised really, Mendes allegedly has organized crime connections (Riaola too).

Swansea fans want them to become our feeder club:

I posted that a few pages back from the Swansea forum. Some interesting reading in those threads huh?

Do you think this kid will just walk into the starting 11? Lets not get ahead of ourselves

Agree, but Ole has to be allowed the time to fix this. People will be shouting for his head on a platter as soon as next season starts.

My brother’s probably quicker than James and scored 22 goals from the wing this season. He plays Sunday league but maybe we should buy and develop him.

He does need time, but he is putting pressure on himself straight away with the comments he has come out with about next season's expectations. I know he wants to rein us in a bit, but the is definitely not the dreaded 'United Way'.

Well mr Smith you dont know shit do you. For Molde solskjær has found several gems. Gems that was sold out to Europe for good money. Thats one of the Things Norwegian clubs needs to be good at cause they need the money. United dont need stars now. United need players that Will be so proud to wear the United jersey that they Will give 130% in each game. Not overpayed lapdogs.
What are you on about? Your response reads like you completely ignored my post and went on to ramble on about something completely irrelevant to the point I was making

Your brother is lying. He’s on the bench most weeks.

This thread reminds me of the Valencia transfer thread.

Id say that was the beginning of our decline and the start of the value strategy. I wonder what the club was thinking when they brought in Valencia, Young, Jones and Smalling to one day replace the likes of Ronaldo, Giggs, Rio and Vidic

Don’t know enough about him but so what, give the lad a chance, we’ve tried (and failed miserably) to copy the galactico policy of Real Madrid, and its left us with overpaid garbage and mercenaries who play when they choose to. I’d rather have a young hungry team with potential to develop, solid British core, finishing mid table for a few seasons, as opposed to this shite now that can’t even get out of bed for a champions league spot.

A lot depends on how we line up next season, if it’s more or less the same nonsense we have now, then expect the calls for Ole’s head fairly quickly. While we can’t get a full team in one season, wholesale changes do need to be made.

It's weird to see people claiming he'll 'never be as good as Martial'. It's like some young new defender being signed and everyone lamenting that he can never live up to Phil Jones.

Difference is that we have no players of Ronaldo, Giggs,Rio and Vidic standards to replace. Could be good as it gives new players less pressure to live up to these kinda names.

Martial aint pulling up any trees, it's not hard to improve him currently.

You don’t replace a player that was touted as a future ballon d’or winner with someone that the Swansea fans don’t even rate.

I’m all for signing James as project. But if he is being brought in as first team regular then we are in big trouble.

Swansea fan don't rate him? You sure? I doubt he will be first team player, more a bench player. People need to chill the fcuk out.

Martial being touted as a ballon d’or winner is up there with Fergie saying Jones was the next Duncan Edwards. Both complete bollox.

Martial is a fantastic player. He’s just a lazy bastard with a terrible attitude.

If he’s being replaced then it needs to be with a top player that is going to improve us.

I’m all for signing James, but the idea of him replacing Martial is ludicrous. Possibly 2-3 years down the line after he’s worked with our coaching staff and improved his overall game, but right now he’s not good enough to start in the PL.

Why is this comparison even happening? Martial is easily the better player. Sessegnon as a 17 year old in the Championship had 16 goals and 8 assists. Feels like that is more of an apt comparison. I have no problem with this transfer, but would easily prefer spending a few more million for Sessegnon.

I am pretty sure we could have found better players then the likes of Jones, Young and Valencia. Possibly guys who won't end up fullbacks in their early 30s as they were too shit to play in their natural role

What? All I've seen from Swansea fans and regular Championship watchers is how much they do rate this kid.

Go to the Swansea forums. Most are calling him a kick and run merchant that is very average outside of his pace. Excellent at championship level but not good enough for the PL.

I don’t need to chill out mate, I’m cool with this signing as long as he’s seen as a project to develop and not as a first teamer.

For the price quoted, he’s worth taking a punt on. I just think it’s ridiculous to assume he’s Martial’s replacement.

I posted comments from a Swansea forum in this thread, and one of them was from a poster who alluded to the fact many of their support thought he was a league 2 player just months ago. They are happy to part with him for 10M

I've got a mate who is a Swansea fan and he says he is rapid as feck but needs space to run into as he doesn't keep the ball close to feet . Struggles against teams sitting deep and his final ball is woeful . One for the future maybe , sounds like a gamble to me .

You’d swear people are being asked to pay for it out of their own pocket!

We’ve all spent the last few months saying we need to recruit more hungry young players with potential and hundreds have been named. We’ve all snorted with derision when “Star” names have been suggested. “Let’s not make those mistakes again! Remember Sanchez!” You all cried.

Now we’re in for a young British player with big potential- the type that you’d all cry “why didn’t we sign him from Swansea!? Bloody scouts!!” as we line up a £60m deal to get him from Everton.

Is it because he’s not foreign? Genuine question. Or because it’s under the radar and few of you have seen him play?

Nothing to do with him being British. I'm sure everyone who is complaining would rather spend 45mil on Sessegnon.

Doesn't look too impressive I'm afraid.
Yeah seems about right as he beat Kyle Walker for pace many times in that game and he has 90 for pace.

We are absolutely fecked. As fans, some of us can't even get behind signing a young lad who's going cost the change down the back of Eds sofa, what is the point. No ones suggesting he's Martials replacement or the next CR7, just a very good prospect. I'd sooner this be part of our transfer philosophy going forward than the current one cause it's clearly not working....

I think if you ask on this forum about Phil Jones, Ashley Young et al, they'd think these were league 2 too. Sad thing is they'd probably be right....

I don’t think I watched the match, did he really out sprint walker? If so that means there’s nobody else he would struggle with.

What’s his stamina like, is he 1 run and done or can he keep doing it?

Can he play on the right?

If we can't get Sancho, we should be trying to sign Pepe.
