Dani Carvajal

So we sign him and develop him into the world's best right back so he can feck back off to Madrid. Do not want - unless we add a clause of no going back to Spain in his contract for at least 6 years. [/Rant Over]
You wouldn't need that much work for this tbh. People saying they wouldn't want him haven't seen many Madrid games. He's been one of our best players for the majority of the season with a few MOTM worthy performances. He's been outstanding for us so far and I'm not being biased.

Yeah, I'm not convinced at all that Danilo is going to automatically be your #1 right back. Not sure why everyone is assuming so, unless of course I am missing something.

Yep, I would be very surprised if a new guy came in and got picked over Dani after the season he's had. We're probably just shipping out Arbeloa who has only one year left on his contract and needed a backup for that position.

Probably to do with the amount of money paid for him. Not many clubs pay 30m for a player who immediately goes on the bench, apart from Chelsea (Cuadrado) and City (Bony).

Even stranger for a defender. To get a backup, surely there are cheaper and better options than Danilo?

Agreed with that. Though with Madrid you're never sure. I think Danilo is going to have to earn his starting spot though - Madrid is accustomed to having fairly expensive players on the bench as well.

It's going to be interesting to see, but all things considered, if Carvajal drops out of favor I can see him seeking a move next summer, not this summer.

Yeah, I can't see Real selling him this summer.
Not even sure of top right backs available outside of the EPL :nervous:. So unless we sign Clyne/Coleman, who's possibly available? Heard good things about PSG's Aurier (but it will be difficult to do business with them) and Darmian in Serie A. But yeah, we definitely need another RB.

PSG just made the deal for Aurier permanent a few weeks ago (he was previously on loan to them), so that won't be a goer.

There does seem to be a scarcity in terms of available quality right backs out there currently.

Wasn't aware that Aurier was a loan. Even less options then yeah. Pity about Rafael :(

Anyway don't want to derail the thread.

Illaramendi and Coentrao also cost big money and neither of them were ever guaranteed starters. Maybe the Carvajal/Danilo situation will be a problem in the future but, Carvajal will definitely have a chance to keep his position. Especially since with Casillas possibly gone Carvajal would be the only home grown player in the first 11.

The difference is they came in to compete with players who also cost big money, Danilo is a big money buy coming in to compete with a player who cost them £5M, and in the case of Contreao that was under Mourinho's time when he had a degree of control and actually used him in midfield often. The other managers are puppets for Perez when it comes to who is selected.

Fabinho, the only one left really. Bayern are looking for a right-back, too.

By the looks of things it would appear Clyne is staying at Southampton. What are our chances of getting this guy?

Yeah. I figure this is the starting list of conceivable right-back starters for us, apart from the in-house candidates of Valencia, Rafael and Ashley Young (Memphis takes his job and he moves to RB):

Carvajal, Darmian, Coleman, Clyne, Dani Alves,
