Dani Carvajal

Forgive my ignorance, I haven't seen Bayern all year, but isn't Alaba your left back?
Alaba played most of the time either as a left centerback (with lots of freedom to make runs forward) in a back three with Bernat at left wingback or as a box to box midfielder with Bernat leftback. His future will be in midfield.

It's difficult to tell how Guardiola would line up if we didn't have so many injured midfielders though. Maybe Alaba would have played more at leftback if Thiago, Martinez, Schweinsteiger, Lahm didn't miss half the season or more through injuries. Doesn't really matter now that Alaba is out for the rest of the season with another injury :(.

I'd like to see us get this guy if we were to get a player in return for De Gea. Unlikely though but have seen reports recently linking us to him.

Would love him here. He NEEDS to be part of the deal if De Gea is going, over Bale. RB is where we need to focus.

Bad mistake by him against Juventus and his form has dipped but he's a quality footballer. Would be great for us.

If there's any chance he'd be available we should prioritise signing him.

It'd sweeten any de Gea deal, for me. Think he's quality.

Since we're rumored to receive only €30m for De Gea I'd rather him as a straight swap. IMO he's the best RB in the world, so well rounded.

I don't see the hype. He's pretty 'above average' at most things, and struggled against Juventus. Granted, the standard for fullbacks is so low these days he's one of the best out there, but I just don't see him as this must sign some are branding him as.

Its a position we need to strengthen so why not take the best of the available lot? Even if the RB position is of poorer quality than previous years similar to the CB position why not get the best available one?

Besides €30m for someone of De Gea's quality and potential is pea nuts, we'd end up spending more than that getting Coleman for example. So getting Cech on a free and Carvajal on a free (Swap) would be great business.

He's Spanish and starting for Real Madrid. Why on earth would he want to leave and join us?

Don't get me wrong, if you can do the most unrealistic swap deal out there, go ahead - but I wouldn't expect the club to actively pursue him on his own.

Whats so unrealistic? They just bought Danilo and you can be sure he didn't sign to be on the bench.

Not really impressed with him to be honest, he's a good right back for sure, but I don't see what's so special about him. At Leverkusen he did quite well at a very young age, but he rarely stands out to me when I watch Real. Against Juve he had all the space in the world, yet he didn't really manage to do much with it. Still only 23 years old, so normally he'll improve.

That's the logical argument, sure, but realistically swap deals very rarely happen. A similar thing did happen at LB, though. They had Marcelo and spent 27m on Coentrao. Both are still there.

Could you imagine if that was Rafael that made that stupid tackle on Tevez in the first leg? He would be absolutely slaughtered here. He is a good player usually but IMO he is no better than what we already have, he is just playing in a more settled team. He would look just as headless here than Rafael does.

Isn't the concern that Rafael doesn't manage to go a month without a fresh injury?

I was thinking the same, after all the orgasmic praise he gets on here, after watching him in the Juve ties I wasnt particuarly impressed,
I wouldnt like to judge him over so few games but he doesnt look like the 2nd coming of Dani Alves or Cafu or whatever his reputation suggests on here.

That wouldn't explain why he never got another first team game after the FA cup match, he has been fit for months before injuring his ribs.

Not sure where this is coming from. He has had many many great games and is a top quality fullback, certainly one of the most consistent. He was solid against Juventus defensively and made some crucial tackles, offensively he was there to provide at outlet as well. In the first leg he wasn't quite as good fouling Tevez inside the box but he also created Ronaldo's goal.

He was signed to replace Arbeloa you'd have thought. Danilo and Carvajal will fight it out to be first choice. I'd be amazed if they let Carvajal go.

First of all Rafael is a very good fullback. Its his injuries the main problem. And Carvajal has already proven himself in the Bundesliga before going to Spain. He's flourished in different styles and environment. I doubt he'd be a headless chicken anywhere.

Tend to agree with that to be honest. I've watched a bit of Real this year and he looks solid. Perfectly adequate and a decent enough player. He's never stood out to me though.

Brilliant rightback, I've been watching Madrid in first half of the season and he was always a 7 at least. Very dependable, great strength and pace, good crossing. And very good defensively.

I can only hope you're not referring to Tony V here. He is our RB now, not Rafael. If Van Gaal trusted Rafa and made him 1st choice, I wouldn't be as interested in Carvajal but as things stand, he'd be a massive upgrade.

It does explain his average availability over his United career at about 23/24 games a season though, which under normal circumstances is half of the expected number of games in the league and cups.

@darioterios He is staying,I read that he wants to fight the position with Danilo.Florentino has enough critics to dare to sell an spaniard

We lose De Gea and they give us a bloody right back!!!!!

No thanks.. Bale is the only player we need of them in any swap.. We can pick up anyother bloody right back and still compete for the league.. Just not at the expensive of the 2 best keeper arguably first in the Prem.

One Isco is probably too enough...
If Barcelona wins CL and Florentino sells Isco, can be a riot in Madrid :),anyway other people in the board are talking to the press and saying that he is losing his mind. Now he blames everybody but not him. After De Gea the next is Reus, you'll see

I think he's great but he's had (like a lot of Madrid players) a rough couple of months. Possibly overplayed too.

Fantastic for his age though, one of the best around despite the drop in form.

Just read he's a graduate from the club's academy, doubt he would want to leave so easily without fighting for his place

If he's attainable it's a no-brainer. Last time he moved away, he went to Leverkusen and was a key part of their team from a full-back position...prompting Madrid to buy him back immediately.

I would've thought they'd get shot of one of the lefties/Arbeloa before they get rid of Carvajal...even with Danilo's arrival.

But in 2015...yes, Carvajal over Rafael any day of the week, month or year.

Dont think he would leave, let alone madrid sell him. He's very good, precisely why they wouldn't want to let him go, their new signing as a replacement for arbeloa is surely just depth/competition, as they don't give a feck about transfer costs. Had an absolute nightmare against juventus has to be said, although nowhere close to pastore vs barca bad, i was shocked as he's been excellent for a while now.
