Says it all really. That wouldn't explain why he never got another first team game after the FA cup match, he has been fit for months before injuring his ribs.

I firmly believe that there's a shitload of defenders out there that have gone under the radar & are on the cusp of great things. Buyin a recognised star doesnt always work out - loss of hunger, settling in period etc.
Surely with our global scouting network we can unearth these hidden gems - instead of tirelessly concentrating on what we cant have, or wont pay for..
Good modern rightbacks are scarce though. The best ones aren't leaving (including Carvajal) so the alternative would either be a punt on a talent like Meunier/Darmian or buying a decent one like Clyne. There are much more leftback talents than rightbacks nowadays, there's not many options out there.
Yes he will. He's better than Danilo. Danilo was bought in mainly to replace Arbeloa, but also to provide backup for the central midfield since he can play there too. Carvajal is their number one right back without a doubt.Because they signed Danilo, which means he won't be starting for long...
Its a possibility though and only really discussed when its logical. We do need a rightback, Real have two starting caliber RBs. Real want De Gea. If Real were willing to let Carvajal go to get De Gea, and Carvajal was open to a move because of Danilo's arrival, I don't see why not.The ultimate muppetry is naming a hypothetical scenario where a player is sold and you get money + a player in return. It's so rare in football yet every time someone is linked away from the club a swap deal is proposed.
Carvajal would be my first choice if I could choose any right back to sign. Turning him down just because he has played for Real would be silly he is a class player who would make our starting eleven a lot stronger. No more Madrid cast offs for me, thanks. Sometimes I wonder what we pay our scouts for.
I'd guess swapsies might become a lot more common in the future for clubs with FPP restrictions. The ultimate muppetry is naming a hypothetical scenario where a player is sold and you get money + a player in return. If it was any other team I would agree with you but since it's the circus that is Real Madrid I wouldn't put it past them.Carvajal won't be sold, he is Real Madrid's number 1 RB ffs, Danilo has been bought in to strengthen the squad and add competition.
That said, as he he is amongst the best in the world (not great competion) he is someone we should court.
This. I believe he's an excellent RB and comfortably better than Rafael (I'm a Rafael fan, btw). I, for one, would love to sign him.Carvajal would be my first choice if I could choose any right back to sign. Since we're rumored to receive only €30m for De Gea I'd rather him as a straight swap. IMO he's the best RB in the world, so well rounded.
It's such a forced transaction. You'd have to have a player on each side willing to leave and join that other particular club at the same time. One team is generally forcing a player out and that's not something player respond kindly to.I'd guess swapsies might become a lot more common in the future for clubs with FPP restrictions.
I'd rather sign Darmian, at least he wont feck off in 2 years.
Where would Carvajal go after United?
Back to Madrid?

People saying Carvajal is Real's #1 RB aren't looking at how Real work. Danilo cost them €30M which automatically makes him their #1 RB, just look at Isco, no matter how well he played this season as soon as Bale and James were fit he was dropped. You also have to take into account that Real are looking to balance things more nowadays with sales than before due to wanting to either expand the Bernabeu or build a new stadium. So if they can get the keeper they want and lose a RB they have already replaced and only paid £5M for, I think they would.
I do think you're right. However at the same time its Real Madrid we are talking about, they sold Ozil who was their best assist machine. Then they sold Di Maria who was their most creative player atleast for the second half of the season. Now they're treating Isco like a handy man. Despite being their best player this season he's the first to drop out should they have a fully fit squad. So i don't know what to think really.Illaramendi and Coentrao also cost big money and neither of them were ever guaranteed starters. Maybe the Carvajal/Danilo situation will be a problem in the future but, Carvajal will definitely have a chance to keep his position. Especially since with Casillas possibly gone Carvajal would be the only home grown player in the first 11.
