Dan "The Gardener" Ashworth Has Left | Venit, vidit, non vicit

Dan Ashworth probably took the piss out of Ratcliffe after the game....

Something like.....

"Told you the problem wasn't Ten Hag".

Ratcliffes ego couldn't take it, so he fecked him off.

Owner wasn't feeling this recruitment worked out for one reason or another. He opted to not commit a sunken cost fallacy.

Ashworth's whole FA "England DNA" had a funky smell to it at club level but did good for the NT over the years on a philosophical direction. He seem a good structural exec but doesn't come across as an uncoverer of talent, we need a hard mode 'player analyst' as DOF that can find us the diamonds in the rough.
This I understand but having spent so much time and money on an appointment, five months seems to be too short a time to make a conclusion either way. Wasn't Vivel supposed to be our 'hard mode' player analyst who can uncover hidden talent? And to have them work in tandem would have been ideal as Ashworth's organizational and administrative skills are still key.

Guess he pays for pushing to keep and back Ten Hag and SJR was still critical of the squad in recent quotes I saw online. He was obviously leaning this way. Where do we go from here because we need that structure work?

This is Berrada exercising his authority as CEO. The decision to bring in Ashworth was made before he became CEO. Wilcox and Amorim are his men, Ashworth is not. With Wilcox at the club, Ashworth is not required.

Look at what he did at brighton and the structures he left behind there. The guy is elite, that no one can deny.

Surely it's internal. Might be differing opinion and he is in the minority. Maybe he has doubts about Amorim after Forest game? For it to work everyone has to be on board.

Ashworth comes across as a very long term and careful General whereas SRJ and to some extent Berrada seem to be more direct, they must have had some sort of ideological clash that couldn't be mended or reconciled.

Yep, could be as simple as that he doesn't agree that Amorim's preferred system is the best way forward and thus, has no choice but to leave.

There’s no way he agrees to mutual consent unless they had something to sack him for

Why would you say goodbye to all that money
It depends on the terms of the contract, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a probationary period, or something to that effect, so that we could get rid for a lower fee in the first 6 months. I presume positions like his are based on a permanent contract.

If it was about keeping ETH then I'm with Sir Jim, that level of accountability will trickle down to the players on the pitch.

Personally I don't think you can put the ETH extension on him. You can't publicly chase other managers, undermining ETHs position and allow him to continue like nothing happened with no sign of faith. I wanted ETH gone in the summer but the very public 'review' was the big error imo.
If this was the reason then he has to go. His job is basically to make hard decisions, not influenced by public but only by logic.

I wonder if he had played a huge role in getting Bruno contract extension?

Its obviously a disagreement with strategy. The problem is if its Ratcliffe determining the strategy and only wants to get a sporting director that does what he says then we are fkd. The owner should not be driving strategy. I guess he out looking for a yes man

I'm done with football. This club just bores me to tears on and off the field.
There are many words to describe United over the past decade but boring is definitely not one of them. If it were a soap opera you would say it’s not believable enough

Also some posters called him short a while ago. Maybe he read those and decided this isnt the club for him.

No coincidence he's left after amorim is in

My take, he's not on board with who amorim wants in the window, they're clashing. out you go ashworth

Think it'll end up being a good decision, but we must get the next guy right

I mean that would be a huge problem if we still appointed a manager that the sporting director didn't want. That would put into question the structure and how they are operating. That's not to say Ashworth would be right but he should be the leading voice.

The banter era will never end.

If it is simply over the Ten Hag decision and Ashworth being the one in his corner, you can hardly blame them.

We are now in the situation where we've got the manager we probably would have signed in the Summer anyway, but with a mess of players that don't fit the system. You can't afford to waste entire seasons and that's what we have done this year. And it's only December.

I hope we kind of change paths slightly now and back Amorim in January, and treat it like a mini Summer window, because it's desperately needed.

Why do I have a feeling we will go for Dougie Freeman..

I remember there was some meetings and lunches with him in the summer. Thought it was Olise related. But couldnt habe also been related to Ashworth given the latter barely joined!

We definitely have some relationship with Dougie though.
