Dan "The Gardener" Ashworth Has Left | Venit, vidit, non vicit

It's becoming clear why we parted ways. No doubt Berrada and Wilcox laughed him out the room when he suggested Southgate. Luckhurst also saying Ashworth was not part of the process of appointing Amorim.

Good riddance, he was untested at highest club level and would have ruined us with his 'English DNA' schtick. If he truly was the tipping point in giving ETH a stay he was already being poor for us.

So he wanted Southgate (allegedly), decided to keep Ten Hag on, and signed Zirkzee? If these are true then he was rightly shown the door. Don't exactly see why he was this '10/10 DoF' that we were so desperate to chase all of last year.

I questioned his appointment on day one that they announced they were after him. Got laughed at here when I asked what he had achieved at Newcastle: the answer was f*ck all. Five months pursuing him, millions in compensation and now having to pay him off... new faces in charge, some clown show
Here's your trophy for being right

Ah, the old @Leftback99 method. If you whinge about absolutely everything, you might be right some of the time.

We know how to entertain our opponents on and off the field.

If he preferred Southgate over Amorim than I'm not too bothered he is gone. I'm bothered we spent so much money to bring him in from Newcastle only for him to leave after 5 months though.

I said this in one of the summer threads, that there was no guarantee this 'drram team's of board people would have worked. They hadn't all worked together before

Take all the leaks we read in next few days with a pinch of salt.

To be fair Yoro and Ugarte seem like they will turn out to be great business. Zirzkee, not looking great but very early days

Media didn't know anything about this before, now they know everything. Who called what, reasoning, etc.

It’s not all just coming out. We knew in the summer that Ashworth backed Ten Hag, we knew he wanted an English core and Southgate.

People saying “surprise surprise he’s responsible for everything fans didn’t like” well.. yeah. This isn’t even news. He’s also responsible for transfers, of which Amorim has probably fed back that most of them are shite.

Okay, I don't know what to make of this club anymore. This feels like a complete farce now. Honestly, are we a front for manatee decision making? Is this a social experiment?

The effort to get him out of Newcastle, Ratcliffe himself talking him up in interviews only to stroll in and fire the guy after less than six months in the job because of...what? He doesn't like the look of Zirkzee the last couple of games? Or is it Berrada and Ashworth that don't get along? Was Ashworth stealing pens or taking too long on the toilet in the morning?

Honestly, I want to quit this club sometimes. It just feels like an utter quagmire. Stumbling senselessly through the desert blinded by thirst, being taunted by mirage after f*cking mirage. When does it end?

This casts doubt over absolutely everything for me. Maybe that's overreacting, but I don't think so. Who is running things and making the big calls? Ratcliffe and his INEOS boys or the professionals they alleged we're now in charge? Who decided to keep Ten Hag? Bring in Amorim? Who signs the players? Who decides on flowers for the reception area? Keeps track of everyones toilet time?

God, just one month. Just a week of positive momentum with this club, where it doesn't get punctured by absurd events on or off the pitch.

I know. Fat chance.
Well put. Echoes my sentiments perfectly.

Immediate suspicion is Ashworth was frustrated by having to share power with the likes of Berrada and the others, and SJR, realizing he may have assembled an executive team that was a bit too "top heavy", agreed to the departure to uncomplicate the amount of decision making personalities in the mix.

pretty much sums up when some if us wanted the sheikh, despite the baggage that would have come with him. the club is in as much of a mess off the field as on it

Hopefully the real story comes out soon enough. It's pretty hard to buy the sudden influx of "Ashworth was responsible for all the bad signings but not the good one, and wanted to turn us into Brexit FC" reports.

We are still PR maschine.
Everything done wrong; Dan
Everything right; not Dan

But nevertheless; if his decision was to keep Erik, he deserved sacking. That decision has huge and long term consequences. Especially in financial way which Sir Jim doesn't forgive.

I've already stated that if something isn't working then it's best to change quickly.
It's the same reason people were having a pop at the club for not sacking EtH quickly enough...yet these same people are now having a go at the club for changing things quickly!!

You're stuck in a groove here. Of course it's better to change if it's not working out. That is not why people are criticising the club. The reason why is that the club put itself in that position. Because that means they fecked up a key recruitment process. There is no way you get to that point this quickly if that's not the case.

With some of the information coming out now, there’s at least something to form some thoughts from.

Firstly, if Ashworth was indeed responsible for keeping ETH on last summer, then he should be shown the door. There was no way that what ETH produced last season is grounds for anything but immediate dismissal, never mind signing more players for him and activating the one year extension to make firing him even more expensive when, to no one’s surprise, this season was a continuation of last season.

Secondly, if his choice for the ETH replacement was Southgate then that also tells me he should not be making any decisions at this club. I can’t believe there may actually have been legs in those links.

And finally, while there’s a lot of hysteria over this (I think in part driven by the fact that we lost yesterday), if it has been identified that Ashworth’s vision is not aligned with what the other people at the club want, then it is better to remove him quickly rather than waste time and resources.

I'm with you on this. In addition, I think there may have been too many cooks in the kitchen

DL, Maz, Ugarte, Yoro all are very good. I have faith in Zz too even though he is struggling for consistency. If all the signings were Ashworth's then it is a loss for United.

Coudltn Ashworth have helped identify players to fit Amorim's system? Can Ashworth only find 433 players? This is the bit that confuses me.

Re Liverpool. A big reason they probably didn't go for Amorim is because they knew it would take a complete overhaul. Little point in going in that direction when Klopp had already built team what was performing to a high level. Little point in ripping that up.

I think fingers have been pointed at Ashworth for the summer recruitment which now looks terrible given most wont fit into Amorims system. But is that really his fault? Not getting rid of ETH may have been. But lets not misremember that facts, after the FA Cup final the sentiment was that ETH should stay - the Caf poll said as much. Mainly because no one liked the alternatives.
With regards to ETH in the summer I am fully guilty of wanting him to stay as a fan I let emotions cloud my thought process. However the top dogs at this club should never let that happen. The right decision despite fan pressure should have been to let him go. Who is at fault for that not sure but looks like ashworth has a hand in it.

Also if ashworth didn't want amorim and was against his formation setup then he had to go because the club have decided amorims ways of playing is what they want (i think) so a full transformation to this style is required (as you rightly point out why the scouse lot didn't do this). United require a full transformation to this style and if they genuinely have a plan it will take time and a bit of suffering pointed out by amorim.

He has a couple of years to get this right and if he doesn't he will rightly be sacked. Then it's if we see if ineos have a plan or they just pick another type of manager and round and round we go. Time will tell

Huge overreaction and it would be best for you to take a break from following the club. Personally I’m pretty confident it’ll settle by the end of the season and that the decision to remove Ashworth is the correct one.

Why it should be a point of contention? Wouldn't it be easier to scout and recruit when you have clear understanding of the system? I think people are making up stuff to get engagement right now.
