So if Ashworth can't join till at least August, Berrada late July and if we sack Ten Hag, given we've already got rid of Murtough and Arnold, who is going to identify and negotiate transfers for the summer window?
They have enough people floating about to run a negotiation. They can even hire a 3rd party contractor for a summer. It's not that hard.
The harder thing is the "game model" stuff that they're talking about - what type of football do we want to play? Can Ten Hag have the squad playing that type of football? Which players in our squad can do a job given the type of football we want to play? Where do we need to strengthen? What profile do we want in these areas?
From that we get down to a list of actual names and how much we're willing to spend on each.
It seems like Wilcox will do part of this (the bits to do with setting the type of football to play etc.). I think we'll also get a head of recruitment to do the last part (given a player profile we want, which names do you suggest?)
It'll be nice having Ashworth's judgement / input into all these things but I think between Berrada, Brailsford, Wilcox and co they have it covered. I also assume Ashworth is providing some input into these things and isn't actually just twiddling his thumbs at home.
