Daley Blind - Deal Confirmed

De Jong starts ahead of him in the national side in CM and the Eredivise is shit. So enough reasons to be sceptical imo.

De Jong is a good defensive midfielder too, we could do with him.

Good players often start off in a poor league.

We needed a solid defensive midfielder and we might be getting him in Blind. We didn't necessarily need someone world class

Clearly LVG likes balance and symmetry: Started his managerial career with a Blind and will probably close out his career with another.

The other thing he looks like he is going for is to get a re-balance the squad between left footers and the right footers!! Must be a Guinness Book of Records to buy all five players, all left footers in one transfer window.

Don't know much about him and I'm not about to pretend I do. I thought he had a decent world cup and fit well into LVG's systems.

It seems to me he is buying versatile players who can change the system without having to change personnel.

I'm happy to see him come.

People on here watch to little football. If you think Cleverly is anywhere close to Blind in quality, you are mental. He will be a massive upgrade. He is smart and can controll games with his passing and positioning.

We tried to sign Vidal, but when that did'nt come trough, we signed Blind and that's great for me. Fletcher, Fellaini, Cleverly (Young and Valencia) and Anderson was killing Our team, now we have a far better player. My nightmare thinking about this last night was that now that Vidal is staying at Juve we did'nt sign a new midfielder, that would have gotten us into trouble getting fourth.

Daley is completely different to Strootman. Strootman is more box to box and Daley is more defensive. I see Daley as a replacement and back up for Carrick who had a poor last season always takes a long time to come into his stride after injury.

In that sense it sounds like a signing that makes complete sense.

Yes we do. Carrick/Blind with Herrera is perfectly acceptable in a 5-3-2. I can't believe people are actually doubting or dismissing Mata. He's technically our best player, not including Di Maria.

I'm happy with Blind and glad we weren't scrabbling around on Monday for him. Good range of passing, good work rate, intelligent player who reads the game well and he's a decent tackler. Good addition to the squad despite some bemoaning the fact he's not a superstar. You only have to look as far as van Gaal's Dutch team in the World Cup to see you don't need 11 absolute superstars to make a very good team.
I think that's one of the reasons we won't be going to 4-3-3 this season. Along with the dilemma of dropping Rooney or van Persie.
So Di Maria on LWB, and Mata behind Rooney-Van Persie?
I disagree completely, but I guess we have to wait and see. LVG will try and fail to accomodate them on the pitch at the same time IMO but time will tell who was right.

This should be a good signing from what I've seen of him. Energetic, tenacious, good on the ball...versatile (can play defensive mid, all down the left side and even centre back).

Just hope it's not the only CM signing.

Sounds like we've finally got the backup (successor?) to Carrick. We've needed it for about 5 years, so can't be unhappy with that. Especially since Carrick is out for quite some time, and by the time he was back we may have been too far off the pace this year. Plus Blind can provide backup for a few different positions.

I expect him to be a solid player for us. Once we've got our team sorted (hopefully by next years transfer window) he probably won't be a starter, but he'll be first choice backup and get plenty of games in his own right. And in the meantime, he can play his part in getting our shit together.

he will play as DM, no way he could play as leftback. I understand there are bodies needed but I feel quite strange about his signing. He is not much better prospect than Cleverley IMO but he might have confidence to get better and fullfil his potential which means he could turn out to be our carrick.I don't expect much from him.. he will be a cover until we find someone better in that position over next couple of windows. Anyway if he does well why not to praise him?

Well I've seen him for Holland and for Ajax. He's got no stand out qualities. And he's not really a utility player either, not in a top league. He has played at CB, but he's poor there in the Netherlands, so he'd be a disaster there in the Premier League. He's played as a wing back, but he's far too slow to play there in the Prem.

Even in CDM I don't think he has the control to handle the high pressing high tempo style. Since he's not good enough to play LWB or CB in the Prem, we'd be signing him as cover for Carrick as a holding midfielder. But if we're going to sign a holding midfielder De Jong is much much better, Prem proven and probably half the price.

The proof is in the pudding. If LVG thought he was good enough for us, he'd have signed him a month ago. It's a very, very simple deal to make. So we can safely say that he's, at best, a back up option.

I just don't see the point in signing players who wouldn't get near our first eleven, arguably even our bench, with everyone fit.

I don't think you're happy with this signing are you?

Way better than shit Cleverley

I'm a little surprised by this one. He's a good player who'll do a good job of backing up Carrick and covering on the left, but if we're signing him, we're probably not signing another midfielder.

Also I think we can basically instantiate a new rule for transfer rumours: if he's not left-footed, then lock the thread, curse right legs and speak of him no more.

A pretty boy who likes a tackle. I can see him being very popular on the cafe.

Nothing worth getting excited about imo. But for that price and the position(s) he covers, £13.8m is very good business.

Will surely be an improvement on Fletcher in DM and is versatile. I wasn't over impressed with him at the World Cup but if LVG wants him that is all that matters. Not much £ either.

To be fair, does he need to be mobile? If he's to play DM then he should be fine. Let's wait and see before we judge. Not too long ago people said similar things of Strootman

Not necessarily no, but I think we are missing a bit of aggression in the squad and fron what I've seen, he doesn't add that.

Carrick isn't exactly mobile or aggresive and yet he has been consistently one of the best players at the club for over 5 years now. Not trying to make a direct comparison here with Carrick but intelligence and positioning are important as well. Otherwise players like Lee Cattermole would have been considered world class.
I fully agree, hence the I hope he proves me wrong comment. It's not that I'm against this signing but would have liked another cm in addition to Blind that can give us that extra bite in midfield.

He will. I'm sure of it. And if anyone can make him better, It's LVG and the coaching staff here.

Truly hope so, again not against this signing at all. Just hope we manage to add another cm in.

People are reinventing history here. Utd wanted to sign superstars in the middle. Fabregas, kroos are just two of the players we know we went in for. Blind will be a solid addition but he ain't going to win us the champions league.

Non of our players will as we ain't in it ;0)

As long as Fletcher and Cleverley aren't playing, I'm fine with this one.

His first job has to be getting the ball off United's centre halves as quickly as possible.

He can definitely do that. I think he's great for a counter-attack, since he's good a passing out of defence in a hurry. I suppose it makes sense to bring in a good passer having brought in a good runner. He wont disappoint anyone, since we all know he isn't amazing, but he is generally very good at working for the team. If we start winning things, he'll look like Xavi.
