Definitely, squad players yes. Answer to our problems or first choice no. I just don't want people to build him up and see a Fellaini type backlash.
Ok I see your point now. You're right, people should see this signing as purely a squad signing. If he proves us all wrong, brilliant. I'm pretty sure we'll see a big midfield and big defense signing over the next 2 windows.

Meh. Hope he's not the last one. Good utility player but the man to lift our midfield to the required level? Hardly. Actually hope we'll use him more as a left-back to ease the pressure on Shaw.

At least he sounds reasonably priced at 14 million pounds.

I dont think anyone, anywhere, thinks he's the £30 million Fellaini of Everton

He's just a good CM like Carrick has been for us. And something Fellaini hasnt been

So if he was played mainly left back 2 years ago while winning club player of the year, why are people saying he was jeered and booed at? Or is that just a myth?

I think in 2010 or 2011 - but it could also be in 2009 or at the start of 2012 - he played two or three poor matches, Ajax probably lost and from what I remember, the fans whistled at him and bood him. Not a myth, just a long, long time ago and pretty irrelevant since he went on to play really well for Ajax (hence the appreciation he got, from the fans and being voted best player of Ajax and then best player of Holland).

That's why people aren't interested in this player, he is the opposite of a muppet target. I personnally always saw him as Xabi Alonso lite.
On the pitch he only uses his brain and his passing range, because he isslow, he isn't particularly physical, but he is great tactically he has a great tactical awareness and he is a leader, he organise the players around him.

I don't know, if he is going to be able to adapt to the prem because he is probably not vicious enough, and probably too weak physically, but he shall try.

People are reinventing history here. Utd wanted to sign superstars in the middle. Fabregas, kroos are just two of the players we know we went in for. Blind will be a solid addition but he ain't going to win us the champions league.

As others have said, our problem is not trying to win the CL. It's trying to get back into the CL. I got sick of watching us being outplayed by teams last season, and if Blind makes us more solid defensively then that is one problem solved. If he is behind Carrick and Herrera in the pecking order, then he is a good third choice. If he is behind those two and Vidal/Carvalho or similar, all the better.

The problems in our squad run deeper than many had realised this time last season, so every upgrade we get is a problem solved.

Ok, so not a myth but surely a piss poor stick to beat him with? Cuz he was pretty young back then and young defenders do make mistakes. Anyways, I'm glad this is now done :)

Yeah, it was LVG's Fellaini. Hopefully turns out a lot better.

But at half the cost.

Edit: and now that this thread is going to get locked I can recycle some of my Blind jokes.

Sounds like he could be our Carrick. Seem to recall a lack of excitement over that signing as well. Fingers crossed it works out and he goes on to become an important part of the LvG jigsaw.

So Ogden tweeted that Blind is likely to be played as a DM. Cover in that position until we sign Strootman in January?
Daley is completely different to Strootman. Strootman is more box to box and Daley is more defensive. I see Daley as a replacement and back up for Carrick who had a poor last season always takes a long time to come into his stride after injury.

Exactly, and I also think the massive expectations because his dad Danny Blind captained the Ajax side that won the Champions League had something to do with the reactions from the Ajax fans.

Is he a fanny like the rest of our team or has he got some aggression in his game?

He started out as a real fanny, then got a bit more hard and manly. He's still more of a fanny though, but a very intelligent fanny who always gets his foot in. Was pretty impressed with some (intelligent) tackles he made on David Silva when Holland played Spain.

Not really a tough tackler though, something I thought we could use looking at the game vs. Swansea. But then again, if we play better football and don't lose the ball as much, we don't need too much blunt tackling.

LVG preferred De Jong, Wijnaldum and De Guzman as CMs during the World Cup. Was it because the Dutch didn't have a left back?

In fairness, Wijnaldum and De Guzman played #8 not #6. From what I've seen of Blind, De Jong is the better #6 but who knows he's only 24 and has time to mature in the role.

i don't know how I feel about this, I like his versatility but he's not mobile and aggressive enough from what I've seen, which isn't much tbh, hopefully he proves me wrong.
