Daley Blind - Deal Confirmed

Impressed how many on here have superior knowledge to our manager about a player they've probably hardly ever seen.

LVG has worked closely with him and knows what he can do. We'd all like a big name to come in as well, and that may yet happen, but if it doesn't I don't think a Blind Herrera Di Maria midfield is bad at all.

I suspect that Strootman in January would then be the plan.

He will be our head of incidental pressing.

A lot of the qualms with his pace and being unable to withstand the intensity of the game are eerily similar to comments about Kevin Strootman a season or two ago. Blind has also been more successful in the Eredivisie.

Am I the thousandth poster to suggest this diamond, with 2 strikers up top?
---------Blind
Herrera-------Di Maria
---------Mata

well. See you in 6 month, when I say "I told you so". It has absolutely nothing to do with scapegoating or hate. He seems to be a nice chap, but that doesnt qualify him to play for United. I just dont think he is good enough. Nothing wrong with that. btw: Said the same about Fellaini and also said, that Mata would have a hard time to fit into the system.
He wont suffer at all, because none will abuse him; well, the same people who abuse Cleverley will have a field day with him. I am non of them. A player can only decide how hard he tries, not how good he is.

He served Van Gaal well in the World Cup and he covers positions we need strength in, decent signing. We're going to ship a few players out so we need someone like him.

Is he strong enough as a DM to hold a 2 man midfield together in a 433? Or a 4231?

Looks like blind will be competition for shaw at LB and carrick for DM . If we don't buy anybody else then I can only think of strootman coming in next season .

As a person who's watched him zillions of times play for Ajax, he's a very good & intelligent player with superb vision and technique. He has a great variety of passes to boot. One big weakness however... he's as slow as a big fat steaming turd. The Ajax fans will be concerned he's left their club because he's been there outstanding player the past 2 seasons. He'll certainly improve our ability to keep hold of the ball in midfield, not unlike Scholes.

He was good at the left wingback position but a bit average in Cm for them I thought.

Cheers Rams. Sounds very Carrick-like.

I wonder where you were when we signed Vidic, Evra and Hernandez for next to nothing. Carricks not getting any younger and from what i see Blind will fill that role perfectly, granted he may not have Carricks understanding of the English game he will still improve and from what i have seen i think is a great addition to the squad - who will improve us.

"Fans" like you annoy me, granted everyone has their right to an opinion but fans like you seem more eager to be proven right than have the club succeed... So foreign to me

Looks decent. Neat and tidy and positions himself very well, defensively.

He'll also give the "he only passes backwards/sideways" crew something to keep moaning about now Cleverley is gone. Which is a bonus.

 Indeed.

I liked him in the world cup, great passing ability. He has been one of the better players in Holland and I really hope he can take the step up to the PL. I suspect he will start out as a midfielder until Carrick is back and he is a clear upgrade on Fellaini, Fletcher, Cleverly and Anderson.

Anyway he'll probably do a good job here. Can't be any worse than what we are fielding atm. Can't deny I hoped for more but still looking forward to seeing him play

Like it or not, we NEED him!

Vidal is too much of a risk, and Blind is the kind of smallish buy that won't stop LVG buying another CM next summer, short term Blind makes sense and long term he will be a good squad player.

Blind can effectively replace more than 3 players in the squad (Cleverly, Anderson, Fletch...)

I'd still ideally like another midfielder but look at it in this way. Last season we our central midfield options were Carrick, Cleverley, Fletcher, Fellaini and sometimes Rooney

This season it'll be Carrick, Herrera, Blind, Fletcher, Di Maria and sometimes Fellaini. Doesn't look too bad now lads.

Has a quality footballing brain, remains to be seen if he can hack the pace of the league.. definitely not suited to a 2 man midfield, but as a DM in a three with Di Maria, Herrera.. could work. whereas Blind, Herrera and Mata is too one paced..

My worry is that if we do choose that midfield, we're still left with feck all wingers :/.

I wonder the same. If Van gaal definitely wanted him this could have been his first purchase. The fact that it took so long probably means there was some doubt there.

We were monitoring three transfers (Rojo, Vidal and Di Maria) at the same time and trying to deal with departures. And i think that we reached our limits ,there ,we can't do much more at the same time.
Blind was probably an option and not a priority, so we decided to go for him after our priorities.

See? Told y'all that he's the 24 hours signing LVG was talking about prior to the shit that kicked off. Happy with the signing even though I haven't watched him play!

We are building a squad. Seen enough of him when in holland and watching in World Cup to say he's going to be invaluable. We had them at the club previous like Oshea and Phil Neville, although he's better quality. These lads have been unsung hero's of this club. I see him not dissimilar to Hargreaves in his style of play....
