I hope this doesn't happen. We're snail slow and average as is, no need to add to that.

We want someone who is going to do a job for us in midfield. This guy is technically good, intelligent and also very versatile. I would have no issues with it atall.

If Blind can offer more than Cleverly, Anderson and Fellaini combined then it has to be a good piece of business.

Question is - would he improve us in the middle of the park? I havent really seen him play but if hes better than Anderson/Cleverly then that would be enough for me

I look at yesterday's game: For starters, he'd be a better option than Young at wing back. Without being disrespectful to the young lads at centre half who did okay, he might well be a safer option than them there currently in a back three and he's a better option than Fletcher or Cleverley in midfield.

So there's three different positions he'd have walked into our team yesterday.

I'd still like another midfielder before deadline, but he's a solid signing for me.

He was 1/5 to move to us on skybet earlier today. Di Maria's betting was suspended at 1/7. I know it doesn't mean much, but it really seems a matter of time, especially with Delaney, Telegraph and the other ESPN guy reporting our interest in him.

Player of the year in Eredivisie while playing as a defensive midfielder, very solid by most accounts. He could be exactly what we need, a player to do the dirty work in the middle of the pitch allowing others to thrive. Defensive midfielders are seldom speed demons so I don't get why people point to his relative lack of pace, he has enough to play in midfield easily.

Agree, we absolutely need someone like that. It's why I also want De Jong to give us two options there with Blind in case we need him elsewhere. I think in that position it's more about the ability to sense danger and read the game.

Mediocre and average is a step up from Cleverly and Fletcher. If Van Gaal thinks he'll add something then I'm for signing him.

After what I saw yesterday from Clev and Fletch I have absolutely no objections about signings this guy. I'm feckin tired of Cleverley and I understand how much damage chronic disease has done to Fletcher's health.

Blind screams versatility, knows Van Gaal's system, can be creative but also clean in tackling. It will be a fully sufficient signing.

This Blind thing has been picking up a lot of pace over the last couple of days, we just ignored it because of the excitement about Di Maria. Blind will never reach the levels of someone like Vidal but it's much better than continuing into the season with Cleverley if he's our only option.

So is it Blind + a midfielder, or Blind + a defender?
Depends on availability of current targets. After amount of money we're ready to spend on Angel D.M. everything is possible. Could be both as some of our 'talents' doesn't even deserve to be a Capital One Cup squad players.

I don't think this is going to happen, would of been done by now I would have thought

No one predicted that we would have both Carrick and Herrera injured so early into the season, anything can happen now. If the Herrera injury is medium term which we don't know surely we can't continue with Fletcher, Anderson and Cleverley as our only midfield options.

I think the woeful midfield performances of Fletcher (in both games) and Cleverley yesterday coupled with Young not looking particularly ideal at wing back might have convinced van Gaal to go ahead.

That's what i'd have thought but Blind although versatile is best as a DM, so surely would play there, leaving us short in defence, maybe Blind + defender & midfielder, move Cleverley on to make space.

Yes, if we bring in Blind plus another midfielder, I think Cleverley will be sold before the end of the window.

Pretty much. No idea how his positioning is but if it's good enough then the pace won't be so much needed. It was pointed out by Neville in some analysis when we won the title two years ago, he was showing how Carrick is moving sideways ahead of his defenders so he's closing down some alleys and so on, and Carrick is not a speedy himself.

Sky sports news had a Blind tab under Di Maria but I don't think they even mentioned anything about it. Anyone else noticed that?

Had a look at ajax.netwerk.to and checked his thread, skipping here and there to a year back and recent posts... they don't seem to rate him that much. Slow as hell and has not got the speed of thought to accelerate the game. Has a good pass in him though.

I do like the sound of him in DM, with the obvious benefit of also being able to play elsewhere. Another box to box midfielder and the squad looks much better.

I noticed that, though it usually just means they've got feck all on the player but think it might happen.

He was Fletcher level shite yesterday against PSV, granted it was only one game but I think we should be aiming higher. Doesn't look built for that role in the Prem.

How many seasons has he played DM for Ajax for?

Wiki(not a great source) seems to suggest he has only played one full season their.

Martinez liked him when he was on loan at Wigan, so I think Everton is the best bet.

Aye, but they've spent plenty this window and aren't exactly awash with spare cash I wouldn't have thought, doubt we'd loan him with his contract running down, could take a bit of shifting for any imo.

Positional sense is one of our many weak points in midfield, and Blind is by all accounts excellent in that regard.

That's the one thing I'm not too sure about with him, he looks like he would struggle a little in the DM role with that physic.

Gary and Jamie on Sky Sports are confused by United's pursuit of Blind since they cannot understand why they want another left sided centre back or LWB when they have just bought Rojo.

They then went onto say the problem is central midfield and they must address that first.

I thought Daley Blind was a central midfielder? If so, how can Jamie and Gary comment on a player they clearly have only watched in the World Cup..
