Daley Mc.Guire will be one hell of a player.
I tried many unpleasant things to distract me from the tumescent crap he used to serve up, all of which were preferable
He'd be our 2nd best CB right now. Instead we got Bailly, Jones and Rojo.
He wanted Sadio Mane from Southampton and I believe we even made a offer.
Think that was after we tried to get Pedro too. Probably the last time we seemed to be genuinely in for a right winger.
Felipe Anderson was another player he wanted from Lazio but like Mane he wasn't deemed good enough to play for us according to alot of posters on the Caf. Mane in particular we came very close to signing from Southampton but wouldn't pay the asking price.

Despite his flaws, signing Daley was symbolically the first step in the right direction for our club.

Mane was signed by Liverpool after LVG left. I think both clubs were after him, but after Mourinho came he went for Mkhitaryan instead and Liverpool got a free run at Mane

Always been a big fan of his and his style. Pity about his physical "weaknesses" but he compensated for it with great intelligence and technique. Was nowhere near top of the list of deadwood. So a pity we got rid as he'd have been very, very useful for us to have with his added versatility. Just glad he's doing well because he always came across as a decent pro/guy.

By definition of versatility - he could play more than 1 position. Not sure why you want to argue about semantics, because Blind is clearly a versatile player. The only point I was making was that he’s have been more useful to some other squad players we have around the place.
The reason is that he wasnt Mourinho's player, he was LVG's signing and his project at CB. Change for the sake of change.
However even Mourinho is calling him out now

That's because it didn't happen, Southampton wanted around £30mil we felt it was too much so we walked away.

There were reports at the time, we never went back in for him when Southampton didn't lower the fee. The following season Liverpool went for him and paid the asking price.

About LvG, there is a reason why majority hated him at the end, football was shit but i said back then and now, there are things i liked about his managerial stint too.

I'm not saying this as false as none of us know for sure, but I feel like it he had felt valued here by the manager he'd have definitely stayed, but we knew his time here was numbered as soon as José arrived.
You could well be right. Mourinho's treatment of him was strange. Many of us thought he'd be gone as soon as he took over, but Blind played a lot of football under him in Jose's 1st season and did well, then hardly at all the year after.
To be fair to José, he played him a lot more than expected! He rarely played him at CB, though, which always disappointed me as I thought he was a very good one as shown under van Gaal, and now for Ajax and the Netherlands.
I thought our best ever defensive performance under José came in the Europa league final, and Blind was probably my MOTM in said game playing as a left sided CB in a 3. He made so many interceptions. His reading of the game was just great to see.

By looking at Smalling's departure for Roma on loan, it may seem like Jones and Rojo were quite content on staying at United without a guarantee of playing time. Similar to Darmian (to a degree because if Woodward was holding out on a specific valuation on Darmian, then that's just idiotic as that never materialized). But Smalling knew he wasn't going to be first choice, same with Daley and once they knew that was the case, then they angled for a move to play more consistently...it was just a matter of finding the right fit for Daley. I think he would have been okay if he was a regular squad player able to be what Ashley Young is - first to fill in at multiple positions. In Daley's case, it could have been LB and CB.
He would have been our main CB under anyone else than Mourinho. We didn´t have anyone better either in LB or CB at the time.

Young was comfortably outperforming him at leftback at the time. He's been mostly poor for the last 18-24 months (although 12 months of that was at RB where he's never been as good), but before that he rightfully moved ahead of Blind, Rojo, Darmian, etc in the pecking order by being far better than them. Blind was better than the other two, but still not very good on the left.
You are right about centre back though. The Blind-Smalling partnership is still easily the best we've had since Rio and Vidic came to an end. Hopefully either Lindelof or Tuanzebe step up and take that mantle alongside Maguire.
You remember we beat CSKA Away, Blind at LB, Lukaku and Martial up top? 1-4 I think it's my favorite match under Jose, from the entertainment side. We were fantastic. And Blind even as a LB was excellent.
He was never worse in the LB position than Young but ok I get your point. His faults were his lack of physicality Mourinho doesn´t have time for that.
