He fell in to his element when he dropped down to defence and I think that's the case in Holland too. Though the guy is incredibly versatile because of his intelligence and good looks. One of my personal favourite players at United ever because I loved the way he played football in defence - found watching the way he had to position himself fue to his lack of pace and physicality an absolute art right before he would pull of a beauty of a pass.
Wish Smalling & Blind got another season together - even around Maguire, those 3 in a back 3 would be nice to see.

Depay has gotten better the more chances he has to learn a free game a bit centrally as well. I agree with you. Jose makes some horrid decisions of selli g players wherever he goes.
Obviously his heath comes first but I hope he doesn't have to retire, he's too good a player to have his career cut short

He suffered from myocarditis. He underwent an ICD operation (implanted cardiac defibrillator), that tells me that it is very serious ( with severe cardiac function impairment) and high risk of developing dangerous cardiac arrhythmias (rhythm abnormalities). My guess he will not play again. Very sad to hear that and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Normally heart inflammation is caused by a virus or a bacteria. It is something that will get better normally, 6-8 weeks should do it.
The ICD is done to get the heart beating to the right rythm again. As it seems his heart went into an irregular rythm the helps to get the heart back on song.

It was a disgrace he was allowed to continue in that Valencia game. Everyone wants to keep playing and help his team, but the interview afterwards showed he was in a bad place. Especially with Nouri in mind, I found it mind blowing.
Sounds like myocarditis, in which case we won't see him for the rest of the season at least.

Myocarditis and cardiac arrythmias related to it is one of the most common causes of sudden cardiac arrest in athletes, and that’s why you shouldn’t exercise when you are carrying a cold.
Resting and taking anti-inflammatory drugs should see him recover, and he’s protected from severe arrhythmias (those causing the cardiac arrest) by the ICD that will internally defibrillate and reset his heart rhythm should any arrythmias occur.
They’ll probably do an MRI in a few weeks to see the extent of scarring in the heart muscle before deciding on when to remove the ICD and whether to advise him against playing.

Im sorry to be that guy but an ICD doesnt do that.
Youre referring to a pacemaker.
ICD is for conditions that can produce a sudden death (think of muamba, foe, puerta) which is no joke because many times it can end up with someones life because theres a chance doctors cant bring someone back or resuscitate him from this condition. The best chance is this device which discharges the heart immediately when cardiac arrest ensues, which improves the chance of recovery.
Either way, if he got a pacemaker or an ICD implanted, it doesn't look good for an athlete's career. Hopefully he got some kind of catheter ablation procedure which is what Carrick underwent and he could play again (myself also got a catheter ablation which makes me cooler since i share something with michael carrick)
Horrible news for him. I had a far less serious heart condition picked up on a regular screening whilst playing semi pro and it was VERY hard mentally to get back to playing, cant imagine what it will be like at his level. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he doesn't play again, if he is even able to.

Don't know about concern for his career... he could be dead now, or in a severely compromised state.
As things stand, he has his life, health and he is getting treatment. That all comes far before football, especially so for someone who doesn't have many career years left.
Hope he makes a full recovery and retires organically, but if this is the end for him as a player, he's to thank his lucky stars he at least gets the chance to live on with his faculties intact.

Agreed mate. I collapsed at the end of a running race about 4 years ago, and after a year of about 15 heart tests finally ruling out anything particularly untoward, it took me ages to "feel" mentally right again.
At least the top pros have absolutely maximum expertise and treatment on hand. That's the one good thing.

Part I dont understand is that they let him play on after collapsing out of nowhere. Didnt we learn anything from Nouri? If someone collapses for no apparent reason you sub him off and drive him to a doctor.
