Daily Mail

How would you like it if you forked out loads on a holiday and their whole place was littered with homeless people

I don't think I would go back again the following year, that is for sure

Hardly comparable to the situations those homeless people find themselves in, which that vile rag of a paper strongly suggests.

Some of the comments make me very angry. "They should stay and fight for their country like our boys did in WW2, not expect handouts!". Without even a flicker of irony.

If I went to Kos and found it full of penniless refugees frightened for their lives, I wouldn't feel my holiday had been ruined. I would only think that way if I found it full of drunken yobs and time-share touts.

Do you know how much a family holiday costs for a week or two?

All well and good feeling sorry for people and their situation, but at the end of the day you save up and spend a lot of hard earned money to go away, you can't just pretend all that money wasn't a waste. This is the real world

What those refugees are going through is 'the real world', mate, not (comparitively) rich westerners going on a jolly for a fortnight.

If you can afford an overseas family holiday, you should count yourself extremely lucky and would need to have serious words with yourself if you took offence to the presence there of people far less fortunate.
I clearly need more sleep to clear my mind of these prejudiced thoughts. The DM is telling me this and that and it is all too much for my tiny mind.

That is bs.

You work all year round to afford the nice trip away.you pay for a nice clean quiet , ideyllic place.....if the place is littered with refugees it's really going to make the holiday a bit shit. It's not their fault, and their would be no shame in feeling like your holiday is ruined. but I will ask again if you had a choice to go to two identical resorts. One had no refugees the other had lots. Which would you choose?

If you're going to simplify it to that - would you rather be killed, along with your loved ones, in your home country or be a refugee?

I work four different jobs and still can't afford a family holiday overseas, so yes, I would say that somebody who can afford that luxury is very fortunate indeed in this world. Maybe spend a bit more time on the Daily Mail website and a bit less on here if you're of that world view? Or spend some time learning about what's going on outside your little privileged bubble (and maybe a bit of grammar) perhaps?

What I would say though, is if you're going to be so disgusted about the existence of refugees fleeing wartorn countries to have just the opportunity to scrape by in an EU country, then research your holiday destinations better. It's their mistake if they end up splashing the cash on somewhere they don't like because of an ongoing, longstanding political situation.

Grammar jibes yay

I never said I was disgusted by their existence, I would be disgusted if I found myself forking out for a holiday only to have it ruined. It would be an awful shame

Which part of refugees being around would ruin your holiday?

I like to enjoy nice scenery and the relaxing feel of a nice sunny resort town. I love eating outside etc.... I want my kids to feel safe

If as the paper claims there are 100's of refugees, there is going to be a lot of litter, perhaps bad smells, makeshift clothes lines, begging and possibly a higher chance of crime.

A lot of misconceptions in there. Refugees wash, use bins, shit in toilets, get jobs. You know, like everyone else.

At this very moment fresh off the boat in a holiday resort town that is highly unlikely

They are all homeless and have absolutely nothing.

Funny, because that's probably why they're there aswell.

Did you look at the photos the daily mail chose for their hack job? If that's as bad as it gets, it's nowhere near what you're imagining.

And at least I'm not a selfish twat.
No that's not been selfish at all.

When you pay a lot of money for something you want to get what you pay for

I feel very sorry for their plight and don't blame them in the slightest for anything. It's just an unfortunate situation. Doesn't mean this unfortunate situation cannot ruin or at least take away from your holiday and there is nothing wrong in thinking that way

There is a lot wrong in thinking that way. You're looking at people who've come from the depths of hell and thinking "ah, feck, the beach's gonna be ruined."

I don't know what point you are trying to make

I never said they had a choice about their circumstances
Granted - but you are placing some blame on them for not being able to enjoy your holiday. I'd say their right to live is more important than your enjoyment.

Again I'm not blaming them, there is nothing they can do about it.

You're not blaming for their situation, I agree, but you are laying blame on them for not enjoying your holiday. Right? That's what I gathered from reading your earlier posts.
The blame is on a shitty situation they have no control over.

If you're a selfish twat.

Don't be so dramatic. Randall's right. I'm sure he has compassion for their plight but can still be pissed off at having them affect the quality of his holiday. Just as I'd be fecked off if I went somewhere and saw Randall at the bar.

Damn right I'd make your life hell mother fecker

The assumption that they're criminals and that your children are unsafe is completely on you, though.
Jesus silva, I get it. And I know you are always out to win the liberal of the year award

But homeless and desperate people sometimes resort to crime. I reckon I would too if I was them. I'm not saying they are all criminals but I would guess the crime rate has recently increased a tad in the area.

Ok - but it did seem from your earlier posts that you blamed them for not being able to enjoy your holiday.

On an unrelated note, what did you think of Randall Flagg's depiction in the Dark Tower series?
I adore the dark tower series and RF was my favourite character

I also think I portray him well too:devil:

That's a myth. Homeless people commit about as much crime as homed people.

Hmm - I loved him in The Stand and Eyes of the Dragon. He was nicely written in the early DT books (up to book 4), but from 5 onwards, I thought he was shocking. Especially
Mordred bit and how he was killed off so easily. And the fact that he flitted in and out of the story without really doing anything significant (in the latter books). Overall, I was let down. The DT series was amazing from books 1-4, but 5-7 I noticed a HUGE drop in quality.
