D. McDonnell - the Mirror: Jose will be sacked this weekend | BBC: Jose still has board backing

Ed has the right to say he's not going to pay X amount for x player. Do you think Bartomeu doesn't have the responsibility to say Barca aren't going to pay 150m for Pogba?
He does. What he shouldn’t be doing is deciding he knows better whether the player targeted is better than those we have.

New report says United have denied they're sacking Mourinho. Say they're still backing him to take us to the top half of the table and maybe a UEFA spot even.

This is what makes me laugh. Obviously Woodward wasn't a footballer and didn't hold a footballing job, but he's involved in this world of ours for quite a few years and has been in charge of United for five years - seeing and learning things us fans will never know. But some still patronise over him: He's not a football man.

Add the fantasies about how he signs players himself even if the manager doesn't want them (from Pogba and Sanchez to Di Maria and Lindelof even) and you get the idea we're talking about an idiot ruining the club.

The reality is that the big problem with United over the last few years has been the awful work our managers have done, and therefore the wrong selection of managers. And that's the main issue with Woodward: Does he have the knowledge and the foresight to select a good manager, a fitting manager, rather than someone with the best CV available. Because hiring the right guy would actually make 90% of our trouble go away.

No, evidently not.

LVG sums it up perfectly. What's even more shocking is 3 years down and we haven't changed one bit. Rotten to the core.

Every match this goes continues is on Woodward and the rest of the board.

Absolute wankers, ruining the club, they can feck off. Sacking Mourinho won’t fix us. Nothing will until the structural problems at the club are adressed.

Anyone still thinking that there was nothing to this? Mourinho is as done as anyone I have ever seen.

Apparently United have withdrawn McDonnell's pitch side pass at OT for his article. Another OG by Ed, taking it out on a journalist who didn't do anything unethical to source the information.

Only the most naive person on the planet would believe there was nothing in this. I wasn't on earlier but I'm willing to bet there was tons of posts saying how the media always lie etc

Never smoke without fire. People should remember that.

He has to go after today. It’s clear that this isn’t working, he doesn’t want to be here, players don’t want him to be here.

Yeah if he's not backed by the players and the board intend to strike they should just do it before the internationals.

Problem might be the next appointment on the other side, leaving us in limbo.

I'd rather go in to the next game with Carrick and Mckenna in charge than stick with Jose.

Jesus christ.

Jose has his faults but once again the damn overpaid pile of rubbish are letting the fans & club down, absolutely disgusting! Get rid of the lot.

This is getting ridiculous now. We've had a pretty easy start to the season as far as fixtures go and we're still mid table.

Pathetic.

Ironically it the kind thing that Newcastle have done to journo who make negative points. Pathetic from our club

No title in 4 years; Pep going to City. It was hardly a made decision to hire him. His CV is one of the best... who would you have hired.

I'm not saying I would have done differently. Most likely I would have hired Jose aswell but knowing his history I would have been the one to blame if it backfires.

The board took a chance because they wanted instant success knowing very well about his history and that he had just left a club after being involved in alot of drama. They brought him here and they are to blame for all this shit going around the club.

The football results fall on Mourinho but the drama around our club falls on the board. They brought him here, they extended his contract and they let the situation escalate.

Well, I guess we'll soon find out if they really are going to sack him regardless of today's result. It would seem a bit jarring right now.

If the people who make the decisions at United are adamant he's not going, and they judge it a completely made up story, why shouldn't they sanction the BS merchant?

They were already briefing that it wouldn't be this weekend.

Today shouldn't affect such a big decision either way.

A journalist is supposed to vet his source and be responsible with what he publishes.

It was a hit piece to get clicks.. If this is the standard of journalism in football, we really need a overhaul.

Sorry what? No manager is going to be told that he will be replaced in 6 months. He’s just bitter he got the sack the day after the FA cup win, and rightly so.

But I have never heard of a manager being told he will be replaced in 6 months time.

What an interview that was from Gary. Glorious.

And if it's true, to come straight after that 3-2!

My stream died straight after Jose & Rafa shook hands so I didn't see Jose's walk off. Someone in the matchday thread said "he's gone, look at that walk"....I wish I could've seen it.

I have though just seen the post match interview and that's a Jose I haven't seen before. Telling or not we'll see.

For anyone who saw; did the fans give him a decent send off down the tunnel? Did he react to them at all?

This D. McDonnell guy sucks

Let's give it a week first.
But yes agreed then.

He'll just fall back on how the "plan changed" though. Or was "Postponed due to the backlash"
