Cycling 2017

Got nothing to do with grudges to be fair. But it is a big call....and well opens up the green jersey for the first time a long ass time.

Sagan DQ'd - big call!

Big call but absolutely the right call. Terrible, terrible and deliberate shit from Sagan today.

Difference is that Sagan's next few days it'll be only his pride that's hurting like hell.

Unlike Cavendish, who'll be hurting like hell in almost every part of his body for a couple of weeks or so.

Cav was hoing down before the elbow. I agree that punishment was needed but think this was severe. Cav went for a gap that wasnt there.

I've only seen pictures, and I'm not sure how people see it as natural.....it's wild and well out there, the side to side lean is natural, but not lunging the elbow further, and not even from Sagan from what I've seen, though that's not me saying he was doing it purposefully to injure Cavendish, instinctive reaction I'd guess.

Sprinters do it all the time I assume to maintain their preferred line and/or prevent themselves from going down.

Amazed to see Sagan DQ'd after a pretty much unanimous opinion of the cycling talking heads on NBC today that Sagan had done nothing wrong in the whole event.

Absolutely bullshit decision, no words for it tbh. After not inviting Ullrich to the depart in Germany and now this, I'm fecking done with the Tour. Hope Sagan never participates again.

Really disappointed to.see Sagan disqualified, I don't think it was premeditated, and likely it was just a reflex reaction to stay upright. Just a racing incident, which is part and parcel of sprinting. Feel for Cav though, he did everything right up until he went down.

Was impressed with Aru' s attack but Froome is still building up form and he's already leading the GC! I think he'll win it with time to spare.

He fecking didn't, he tried to dive into a gap that wasn't there and went down before the elbow.

He's talking about Abdou, not Cav......though I do think Abdou would of loved that. Sagan with the wild elbows and Cav going insanely inside, both traits of the mad man.

Saw a good replay and analysis today. Based on it I'm thinking this was 100% Cavs fault now. He was basically inside Sagan's arms and Sagan just responded to free himself up. Cavs got a wild streak for sure and it bit him. Still the best though

Wtf, are you pissed or something?

You muppets saying there wasn't a gap should realise cav was already in the gap before Sagan shut him off ffs, I love em both, probably Sagan over Cav but Sagan was in the wrong 4b %

The analysis I saw was very clear. Originally I thought Cav went for a gap that was barely there. This analysis clearly showed it wasn't there and Cav intruded into Sagan's space from behind. At this point Cav's left arm was touching the right side of Sagan's torso and Cav attempted to push left. Since Sagan was drifting right already this momentum made Cav start to fall and then Sagan flicked his elbow to release his own right arm. It's so strange to see this stuff at different angles which can be so misleading. I remember the sprint the day before. Before they announced the winner I rewatched the finish viewing from directly at the cyclists on frame by frame slo-mo and it looked like Sagan won by a hair. Then they showed it from above and he had won by nearly a wheel length.

Edit. This YouTube is a bit conspiracy theory looking but just focus on the lines drawn and freeze frame analysis. It's very similar to what I saw on TV yesterday.

Bit boring so far. The early breakaway attempts aren't getting contested and they're never threatening for stage wins either, so it just becomes a procession to the finish line. Not just on the flat stages, yesterday's ride wasn't any different. The final kilometers have been great to watch but that's it. It's often like this of course, but still. Oh well, at least I can concentrate on actually getting some work done during the day, instead of constantly checking a live stream.

Aru's attack was great and gives me a glimmer of hope we may get some more fireworks in the moutain stages. It was a beautiful win in that fantastic Italian jersey. Now that's a fecking national jersey. I'd love to see him win the whole thing, just for his attacking spirit and with Scarponi still so fresh in everyone's memory. I'm not sure he'll be able to pull it off in the longer mountain stages though.

It's just Bore De France now as Sky happily overprotect Froome. Though again, with Sagan not boring up the green jersey as well, that's wide open.

I'm looking forward to it but I'm not expecting any major GC attacks. After all, who in their right mind would attack on the ridiculously brutal Mont Du Chat, knowing you still have to go 26(!!) km once your reach the top? And with two weeks still to go. These long and ultra heavy mountain stages often disappoint, it's usually the shorter ones (+- 100km) that are the most entertaining with early attacks and huge time gaps for GC contenders.

I think there may be a surprise or two. The way down will be nuts and since there won't be large groups breakaways will be easier.

Couldn't believe how much effort BMC put in on the hilly stage to catch the breakaway the other day. Idiotic tactics like this plays it into the hands of Sky. To top it off Porte actually lost ground to Froome on the stage so all in all a very poor strategy.

I think we've reached a stage where teams simply have to realise that pound for pound Team Sky are a couple of tiers above the rest. All teams with any ambitions for the GC should make Sky do all the dirty work. Team up and be cynical. Take turns attacking and force Sky's domestiques to close every gap.

Literally nothing in it if that's the photo......I just cut out the part where the wheels hit the red line and ultra zoomed for kicks.....both wheels go in the red line by borderline 2 pixels, absolutely equal. Maybe a marginal more in PSI won it for him!

Nah it was a good 0.0003 seconds!
