Maybe it was the fact that Evra was the nearest player but it looked like he got up very high and just floated there. He even ducked to get his head on the ball.

He can't "float". The higher the jump, the longer he'll be in the air, but the fraction of that time at the peak of the jump is the same regardless of height. You can't fight gravity. Velocity decreases to zero, and instantly increases in the opposite direction, which is down.

Nothing wrong with the expression "floating" for illustrative purposes, but it's not what happens. If he ducked to head the ball, it explains the illusion of him being up there longer, as his body is coming down as he stretches his spine so the head keeps at roughly the same height for a few tenths of a second.

Gee, I'm getting pedantic. Have a sweet night x

He's always has that ability to 'hang' in the air. He's scored some fantastic headers over the years, and that was another.

The greasy haired twat.

He played well but we definitely did better against him in the second half, he wasn't nearly as stroppy tonight as he usually is, even when Jones took that one off his foot near the end, he just smiled.

Saw before the match his goal against Chelsea in the 2008. final and when he scored tonight immidiately thought about that one. Pretty much similar, only that one was on the other side. Great goal.

I didn't watch the build up but that was the goal that game to my mind straight away, fantastic hang time and I loved Nevs Michael Jordan reference.

Since when did Science ever matter? He was fecking levitating right!!

I've used science to prove that linesmen are given an impossible job in some offside decisions and my post was ignored :(

I feel sad. Always wanted to be Arruda Sagan of Redcafe, spreading basic knowledge to the ignorant masses. But they don't care.

They all do it, it drives me mad.

It's one thing to use the hanging in the air thing as a metaphor to describe how it looks, but these people actually seem to believe some players have flying as a skill.

when you actually think about it it's really quite hysterical  They really think he's defying gravity.

I think the way Ronnie bends his knees as he rises gives the impression of being in the air a fraction of a second longer.

I'm a cold fish, but bloody hell, this almost brings a tear to my eye.

Can we at least wait 'til we knock his team out before the man-love reignites? That's what I'm doing...

For whatever reason, Ronaldo shifted to a more central role in the second half. He's at his best coming in from the wing. Thank fukk for the tactical mistake.

Still, Real had us by the balls most of the game and still could only manage to spray us in the face only once.
I am guessing that Ronaldo was shifted to central so that Real Madrid could have more creativity coming from the wings. But really though all their attacking players were floating all over the place in the 2nd half

In the 2004 one Ronaldo's body language is saying "Okay, what's going on here then?" and his body language in the latest one is "Can I stay at your house tonight?"

Thought we dealt with him fairly well today. We really limited the threat from him except from headers. Unluckily he was given to much space for one of those and managed to score. To be honest, Di María looked far more dangerous to us than Ronaldo in this leg.

i'm so happy it was ronaldo who scored! i lubed my arse, bent over and he didnt dissapoint me, right in the brown hole

and what a man! he didnt celebrate! i so wish he fecks us again! i'm putting candles and a frank sinatra CD, champagne and garter belts! it's going to be perfect!

wankers

feck you ronaldo!

 I love you marcos!

Still scored despite playing in such a big match, and against a former club with a specific gameplan to stop him.

If we can't stop him from scoring I don't know which team will. Now you get the feeling that its more about planning for that inevitable goal and reducing his influence as much as possible.

I was concerned he would have done much more than he did. Rarely have I seen him so quiet. Very good header, though.

In my opinion he's the second greatest player to ever play the game. It's just a shame for him that the guy in front of him just happens to be playing at the same time.183 goals in 182 games is just fecking obscene.

It musn't be easy knowing your teammates hates you, and all that drama week in week out.

Given the options, I think he'd move back to OT if not for the politic and financial impossibilities, we won't spunk 50M for him

Spank em at Ol' Trafford and hes coming back

Nah but seriously. Fantastic header. Reminded me of the CL Final goal. Unstoppable. One of his major assets and something we have certainly missed since he left. We scored very little headers like that.. If any at all!

Not seen United scored a goal like that since he was here. What an attacker of the ball when its hung up like that. Beautiful.

Viva Ronaldo

Love you Ronaldo. Respect.

❤❤❤

He scores against us and you tell him you love him?

:wenger:

He's 6 ft 1, Evra is 5 ft 8. In any case you'd expect the player 5 inches taller to win the header. I'm not sure why the goal is being worshiped so much.

Incredible leap.

Mmhmm. Ronaldo doesn't live up to your absurd expectations of this mythical player he's never been and you blame it on tactics. Lovely.

Marcos has it mostly right in this thread.

There's more talk about Ronaldo than United players/performance. I'm going back in the United forum.

We all realise that Ronaldo didn't celebrate the goal when he scored, but a few seconds later, the camera spots him pointing to the Real Madrid crowd to acknowledge them. When you look at Laws non-celebration, you see that he is actually unhappy and the way he walks off the pitch, it is as if he simply wants to be left alone.

As far as I'm concerned, he chose to play for Real Madrid so, he is a Real Madrid player and nothing to do with us.
