Cristiano Ronaldo

Loved Gary Neville saying he heads the ball like a League two centre back. That was a fantastic header. What a leap he has on him.

At first when this Ronaldo / United talk came up, like most I thought it was complete bollocks. But does anyone get the impression that he might just want to come back? I get a hint of it from him.

I believe his contract expires in 2015 and he's hinted that he might just see it out.

I actually thought he was a bit nervous with the ball in the first 15 minutes or so, which is rather unusual in him. Clearly an emotional game for him.

"We're going to go there with the intention of winning."

"I think we'll get chances to score and go through."

"I didn't celebrate - out of respect for the people who gave me so much."

- post match interview

Class from him,but i hope you don't celebrate at OT.

@dermotmcorrigan: Fergie on Ronaldo goal: "I blamed Evra until I saw replay, then I felt bit stupid. No other player could score that, certainly not Messi."

I half expect Fergie and our entire bench to get up and start singing Viva Ronaldo if he scores a late and inconsequential consolation goal in the second leg.

I think he might have forgotten a header a certain player scored against us in a recent CL final in Rome.

Saw before the match his goal against Chelsea in the 2008. final and when he scored tonight immidiately thought about that one. Pretty much similar, only that one was on the other side. Great goal.

There's a tie to be won here and the guy plays for the opposition. He'll get a good applause at the start but that's it.

The amount of times Messi gets mentioned whenever there is praise towards Ronaldo, it's like a huge compliment to the Argentinian.

That was fecking horrible having to face him. That constant 'please don't score' feeling you got every time he got the ball anywhere near the area.

Almost feel sorry now for all the defenses that he ripped apart when he was playing for us...almost.

Brilliant player but that second half showed today why the comparison with Messi doesn't stack up. Messi is just as effective in the buildup of a goal as he is finishing them off..Ronaldo scored a brilliant goal, but the natural poacher's instinct meant that he was snuffed out with Man Utd playing 2 banks of 4.

Im definitely getting that vibe

Won't be surprised at all if he returns to United. Madrid isn't the Wonderland he expected to be and being in Messi's shadow every week obviously haunts him a bit. And I stress "a bit", as his productivity and performances don't seem the least affected by it. He just doesn't seem happy, unlike the impression he gave when playing for United.

Add the wages/tax issue to that and I think it's a very plausible option that he returns.

He was below par, but still scored a goal and had about 10 efforts on goal.

Faded in the 2nd half.

His transfer fee would be in excess of 100 million and theres no way we are paying that sorry. We should have asked for 100 million when we sold him in fact.

Fergie's killing him with kindness.

Ronnie will be an emotional wreck come March 5th. Perfect.

Eh, if he doesn't renew his contract his transfer fee will be 0 two years from now, apart from signing bonus. And in 2014, if he maintains his stance, they might very well try and get rid for 50-60 millionish if there's buyers and he forces his way out. Clearly things aren't going very well at Madrid in terms of harmony, and Casillas gang will always win that battle. Lot of it might just be smoke, but I don't think it's as far fetched to consider him returning as it was a couple of seasons ago.

Weather could be a bit of an issue however. But yeah I do think being in Messi's shadow and not having the same support from Madrid makes him miss us.

Next summer will be interesting.

Hmmm, but watch Ronaldo off the ball and he's got the attention of more than one or two defenders. That allows the other muppets the chances. Swings and roundy-roundy-things when comparing with the Barcelona dwarf fella.

Not sure if serious...

Deadly serious Plech.

Maybe it was the fact that Evra was the nearest player but it looked like he got up very high and just floated there. He even ducked to get his head on the ball.

Weather is probably more an excuse for players that want to leave than a motive for players not going there.

What's so special about Madrid's weather? It's cold in Winter, fecking hot in Summer, and it's not like there are beaches nearby. Overall it's probably a more attractive city for a Latin personality, but I would be surprised if it's decisive.

Thing is, he can continue at Madrid, or he can leave. There are a few hints pointing at the unlikeness of him staying much longer. I think it's obvious to see. Spaniards are very proud people, and having a Portuguese, and a spoiled self-centred brat at that, as the centre-piece of a team like Madrid will probably always generate problems as long as player-power is supreme around there. Time might heal that, or it might not happen.

If he leaves, where will he go? Italian football is in shambles, he doesn't seem the type to be attracted to petrodollars... Between Germany and England I think he would prefer England and in England he would probably prefer United.
