Cristiano Ronaldo

No pun intended :), does not mean I would 'begrudge' him a return, simply that the money I would spend quite differently, if its a case of getting him for free, then obviously that is quite a different question.

If Ronaldo has indicated that he is wanting to leave in any way shape or form, Fergie will be doing his damnedest to get him back here, he's openly admitted that before.

I do expect him probably to sign a new contract at Real as the powers that be there would make leaving a nightmare for him and it'd probably get very messy. I really don't think we could afford him, but as it was with RVP, it's down to the player and where he wants to be.

It could happen, but it's highly unlikely because it would be a huge kick in the bollocks for Real and it would be celebrated like a national holiday in Catalonia.

I've been wondering about the money situation. Ronaldo will undoubtedly cost a fortune, but who exactly says we can't afford him? If Sir Alex makes his case to the Glazers, could they not allocate the funds? I'm not really sure how it works with the money, but I do remember a few months back a report coming out where Sir Alex said the Glazers have never denied him his requested transfer money.

I get what your saying, but say if Ronnie pushed this through and waited out his contract then that is a different propisition

There's no way he'll leave on a free transfer, he would only be 30 by that time. Real wouldn't let him stay there for the next 2 seasons and do that.

TO be perfectly fair, I agree with the sentiment behind your post, but what if he decided to do this, could they do at all?

They couldn't stop him, if they refuse to play him for not signing a contract their are FIFA provisions that allow him to walk for nothing or next to nothing.

Contractually I guess they can't do anything if he wants to sit it out for 2 years. But they and the media would make his life hell if they knew that's what he was planning.

A major flaw in your argument is that that isn't true. He signed a new contract with us in 2007 when he had no apparent intention of leaving because of the massive (deserved) wage increase after his breakthrough season, he tried to leave in 2008 but Ferguson wouldn't let him (something he was very upset about) and he finally left in 2009. At no point did he sign a new contract to ensure we got top dollar.

When he signed that contract Real had already started courting him with an alleged 50M offer. Marca and As kept banging on about him.

He could have simply not signed that (a 5-year extension running up to 2012) and wait for the move on a free. A year later when he started going on about leaving for Real he indicated when he signed he had already made his wish to eventually move clear. We didn't let him go and he still had a storming season.

A year later he could have done a Modric or a Cesc, what the likes of Real expect people to do to lower their transfer fees. He didn't play ball. In fact, he kept insisting we had the right to demand a fair valuation, that all he expected was for United to consider offers, which put the ball firmly in Real's court.

The "only God knows" stuff did my head in, but other than that he behaved impeccably.

It's also worth considering that Ferguson probably won't be at United by the time Ronaldo's contract expires.

I don't think we would get him by the time he is on a free. Real would be listening to offers way before that, some would make ridiculous ones and all we can hope for is we make one that doesn't take the piss. If we make a fair and competitive offer (not inconceivable seeing as we had ~30M to piss away on Moura) I would expect him to tip the balance somehow.

I'm pretty sure the rumours abated between 2006 and 2008, I don't think he had much interest in moving to them at that stage, we were streets ahead of them. Yeah, he could have signed and waited to move on a free, but he'd have lost millions of pounds a year in wages that come with the extension. In 2008 he tried to apply a lot of pressure to us, talking about trains that only come once and how he agrees with Sepp Blatter's slavery comments and so on, his attitude was far from impeccable, the difference was that in 2008 he was desperate to leave and in 2007 he was happy to stay. At no point did he sign a contract to get us top dollar.

Contract renewals - agents - bullshit transfer stories

Nothing to see here :)

(Though i am certainly a bit aroused by the possibility of his return)

Where else could he go to in Europe?

Well the obvious ones are City, Chelsea and PSG - all of which would be possible once they start talking about wages. Then there's Russia, but I think that would be much less likely, nor Italy, but how about Bayern? They did spend a hell of a lot on Martinez.

My guess there is either nothing in this, or it's just part of the negotiation and he'll eventually renew with Real.

Wants a new deal. Threatening to leave on a free if he doesnt get what he wants...

He'll get his wages bumped up to even more ridiculous levels, stay there until he's around thirty (by which time Real will have a new shiny toy to play with) before spending his last couple of seasons back home in Portugal. He'll then end up on tv all the time as a media personality like Beckham.

I'd be surprised if I'm wrong.

Madrid won't let him go on a free. If he doesn't sign a contract, i'm sure they will listen to offers this summer, and he'll defiantly be gone in 2014.

There will always be that slight glimmer of hope until the day he retires!

If we can't get him back, the best we can hope for is that he never turns up at City. That would be the absolute pits.

He is at his forth year in Real Madrid. He won the cup and the league just once. If he end this summer trophy less i dont see any chance of signing a new contract. But i also dont see any chance of him leaving this summer because nobody will offer 120-150 million.

My prediction he will leave in summer 2014 and will be a big fight between Chelsea, City, United and possibly Juventus or Milan. He will end up at United.

He has a release clause doesn't he, which apparently is in excess of 200 million?

Can they afford him? Obviously we're not flush atm but we'd get the cash together.

Last I heard Milan were broke and they've been shit this season.

Disagree, wouldn't be the first time the capital club has kicked big names to the curb.

Plus, Catalans appear quite content with the current circus going on at the capital club, doubt they'd want to see that change with anyone leaving - players or manager

You wouldn't want rid of your biggest rivals best player to another country? That's bizarre.

Hasn't changed their fortunes much and ideally, you want your opponents to push you to be better. To that end, a weakened adversary can diminish your intensity/efforts. A weak RM is not in Barcelona's interests, IMHO - Cruyff echoed similar this past week.

He won't win any Ballon D'ors with PSG.

He won't win any Ballon d'Ors unless Messi gets seriously injured anyway and when Falcao moves to a bigger club he could be a contender too. I don't think Ronaldo will be bothered with Ballon d'Or.

He will. Messi is awesome but he can have an underwhelming season, which is all that is needed for any other contenders to win it.

You can say it with certainty that he will? He will be 28 in two months while Messi is only 25 and at his peak with no signs of slowing down.

He's nearly 28 (that's mental....) so I think it's just him and his agent playing a bit of hardball with Madrid for what will probably be the biggest contract he'll sign in his career.

No chance he'll ever come back to United.

Totally agree.

Ronaldo has more than paid for himself at Madrid. In fact I'm sure I saw something saying one if the reasons he was 'upset' was that he was earning twice his wage in revenue for the club and felt he should get more of a cut. If that's the case then any club that can stump up the initial money can afford him based on the additional revenue he will generate.

That said, I'm pretty sure he'll be staying at Madrid.

if he comes back -which i doubt because i don't think we have enough money, but hey, let's dream- watching him play with rooney and RVP will make me cum 9 times a game

i will vanish in a pool of my own semen
