Cristiano Ronaldo

I'm not saying give him an ovation and all that like we did for Beckham. Of course it's going to be fecking terrifying. But what kind of football fan do you have to be for your first reaction to a United-Real draw to be 'oh feck, everyone's going to get really excited about Ronaldo, how irritating!'?

Basically, cheer the feck up.

Very true, it's going to be some tie!

The media portrayal beforehand is going to be interesting to say the least though, wonder how the managers will play it?

Nightmare scenario becoming reality - the media and all our rival fans (i.e. everyone not a United fan) will be loving watching him taking us apart.

I wouldn't mind playing Madrid if it wasn't for him, or even if he'd never played for us - but the inevitably of all this is just

You can see why people are dreading tye sideshow tho? I mean...

He should be given a guard of honour.

Even said in jest this post depresses me.

reading the draw thread had me wondering what the priorities were for some, Ronnie coming back or Utd actually getting through?

I think that's being a bit silly. We can't really talk about getting through until the tie has been played. I think it's natural that much of the focus currently will be on Ronaldo's return.

So what we face them early - if we can beat Madrid, then we can definitely go all the way to the final. There's 4 clubs that I'd rather meet before the final and that's Bayern, Dortmund, Barca and Madrid. I'm glad we're getting one out of the way at least.

Stop Ronaldo = The life-support of Madrid's attack is stopped.

I say ignore him until after the game. Primary we should be cheering on the guys still wearing our shirt. After the game we can acknowledge him and what he gave to us during his time here.

Cheer him when his name is read out when the lineups are announced... and that should be it. The rest of the support after that should go to our lads only.

Didn't Beckham get booed by about half the crowd?

I wouldn't go that far with Ronaldo, and he was a very good player for us and should get a warm reception, but once the game has kicked off he's another opposition player for all it matters.

Hopefully this will help some people get this out of their system. They've been waiting for the day that Ronaldo 'returned' to Old Trafford and now it's happening.

I'd expect a good reception when the teams are read out but as soon as the whistle starts the game he's very much the enemy and playing for a team standing between us and CL progression, I hope we don't hear 'Viva Ronaldo' during the game when we should be cheering on and getting behind our own players.

Regardless of the result an ovation at the end (ala 2003 Ronaldo) would be tasteful without going over the top, particularly if he has a good game.

Like someone else has commented, this isn't some old legend returning to OT towards the end of his career, this is a player very much in their prime who is capable of ripping us apart on his day.

For a bunch of men, some of you seem to be really insecure about Ronaldo and other fan's potential reaction to him.

He's one of the best players ever to play for us. Some people may want to express that, before/after the match, or during.

The booing was ironic.

i think the problem is more with people gushing like star struck women during a champions league knock out tie.

Did Law/Best get a good reception when they returned to OT?

Cheer him when his name is read out, but thats about it.

Afterwards, we only cheer for the players wearing Untied shirts, thats it! Dont even know why this is up for debate

It won't get sadder and more embarrassing, if people sing Viva Ronaldo at OT.

He is a Real Madrid player now and there is not need to give a good reception to a player who prematurely left our club at his own will.

No need to boo but ffs no need to cheer him as well.

Boo him you puffs.

Thats 1 thing we definitely shouldnt do IMO, remember the season after the euros when ronaldo was booed in every club in the land? and he ended up scoring against pretty much all of them.

If there is 1 thing he likes to do its shut up the haters.

I say shake his hand and give him a pat on the back all game, he will feel so blessed he might take it easy

He's twice the player compared to other "legends".

Twice the player George Best was?

I'll be fascinated to see how Ronaldo conducts himself during the games (particularly at OT) - will he be diving around? Will he spend a lot of time bitching about Rafael/Evra/Vidic kicking him? Will he celebrate when he scores (he didn't against Sporting, but they were the club where he grew-up, whilst we were the ones that were treating him like a "slave")?

It'll be interesting if nothing else.
