What is Ronaldo like in person?

He is a mixture, he was only 17 when I played against him. He was incredibly self assured on the pitch, an obvious leader even at a young age. Off the pitch he was a real joker and was always pranking his team mates. You could tell even at 17 that he had quality that was above and beyond everyone else on the pitch, even with people like Wayne Rooney on the same game.

Paddyc is patrick collins. Interesting comments

I still didn't read any quality argument on why should Ronaldo be considered as Manchester United legend, while lots of people wrote some excellent posts why we shouldn't call him United's legend.

And finally, I agree with Vato.

It depends on how you view a legend, but for me, it is either a player that clearly loved us and gave it his all, along with being immensely talented, for a decent amount of time. Ronaldo was here for 6 years, and he was the best player in the world for (arguably) 2 of those years. One of the few players who won the ballon d'or while they were at the club (others being Law, Best and Charlton I think).
Of course you also have your legends like Neville who weren't the most talented but were here for their entire careers. Ronaldo was the main reason behind one of our most successful periods in our history, so he has every right to be called a United legend.

I don't see legend like that, sorry.

By definition legend is synonymous with fame and romantic stories of past achievements. Arguing about other qualifying criteria seems rather pointless. Ronaldo is and was extremely famous and he will remain a part of United folklore. This debate seems to be more about whether he was a United Great, or whether he was one of our best ever players, for which the qualifying criteria can be more be more varied. Applying the term legend to it makes no sense.

I could have put this in the Real Madrid - Soap Opera thread but it is getting steadily more Ronaldo specific.

Contract negotiations between Ronaldo and Madrid are not progressing. Summarising, Madrid are interested in shiny new toys like Falcao (and even a late grab for Neymar). They think Ronaldo at 30 may not be worth as much as he is now. Ronaldo wants, if not a payrise, then at least a bigger slice of his image rights.

However for Ronaldo it's more than money, it's another symbol of the club's indifference to him. He was annoyed that neither the club nor the Madrid press made more fuss over him getting injured this week - no front covers, no demands for Navarro to be punished etc. In fact the normal press and the TV were more vociferous than the Madrid sporting press.

AS is now leading on Ronaldo wanting to leave at the end of the season. Marca is saying absolutely nothing. However Spanish readers between the lines will have noticed he's basically disappeared from AS and Marca's covers this past month or so, only reappearing now on AS with the headline yesterday, "Cristiano: closer to goodbye than a renewal," and today's "After the news of his possible departure, the Bernabeu takes the stage," (implying they're expecting tonight's crowd to deliver some kind of cheering/indifference verdict). Marca continue their current policy of leading with another Madrid player - preferably a Spanish one.

The winds of change are blowing and Madrid is sounding pretty cold at the moment.

That's what I hate about football media in Spain.

What do you reckon will happen at the end of the season then jo? I'd be surprised if everything isn't resolved and he leaves.

Mildly interesting nevertheless.

Personally, I'd rather we didn't buy him back. And no, not because I want to see his hysterical fans suffer.

i would love for him to come back.

it would be so massive that if we did one of those spanish 'unveilings' like barca and madrid do for their new signings, OT would be sold out for his return unveiling.

Why not, Spoony?

Imagine how one of your regular starters would feel if he had to make way for a player that wanted to go try his luck somewhere else? I think I'd feel the same way about it as Spoony, once a player leaves then that's that. No turning back. I'd honestly prefer him to go back to United if he had to leave, but from a United supporter's point of view, I can understand Spoony.

Who cares. Ronaldo is one of the 2 best players in the world. With Nani looking likely to head out the door then I'd say we have no problems in who he'd replace.

Thing is, there's a lot of revisionism regarding Ronaldo, during the year leading up to his departure he was disliked by the majority of United fans, especially after agreeing with Blatter's 'modern day slave' comments...but for some inexplicable reason it's all been glossed over. He was great...but sadly played his prime years in Madrid. Let's hope he finds a fitting end to his career... PSG?

If they can get over Rooney effectively saying most of them aren't good enough I'm sure most of them would be happy to make some sacrifices to bring in one of the worlds best players.

That would be perfect. PSG can throw money at his transfer, he would get the salary he wants, finally earn more money than Messi, the team that would mollycoddle him and ego boost him all he likes, the city and the circus is what he desires, he could easily run over that league, win a Champions League and win another Ballon. Don't see a downside.

Never want him to come back. He is not bigger than United. It would be small time for us going after him. Get a couple of midfielders to add to an already awesome team for the money instead.

acording to As.com, ronaldo's future is in manchester (either us or city) or paris, apparently there's no way he will play next season for madrid

they even show a picture of him wearing a real madrid jacket in wich he took the time to hide the real madrid crest with white tape

Surely that's shopped? Why the hell would he do that?
