He's too unique

As for that ALS ice bath thing, what's the point of that idiocy? Saw it in facebook and my impression is that people either take the ice or pay a certain amount for ALS. Thing is, most either take the ice or ignore it (what I would do). Might work better with celebrities, but if no one refuses the ice bath what's the charity relevance of that? At least I saw a much more appealing spin-off where the challenge was delivering a bag with nice food to a homeless person instead of looking ridiculous doing something that isn't even that hard.

http://www.alsa.org/news/media/press-releases/ice-bucket-challenge-0818.html

"As of Monday, August 18, The ALS Association has received $15.6 million in donations compared to $1.8 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 18). These donations have come from existing donors and 307,598 new donors to The Association."

Seems very effective.

He's one to talk, should have asked him what he thinks about UEFA extending the Ballon d'Or deadline for him. This whole drama around individual awards is just embarrassing these days, should just scrap the lot of them.

Anyway, in more relevant Cristiano news...Portugal have decided that he's not fit enough to play for them. More evidence that Ancelotti is lying about him being fully fit again.

One thing's for certain now - any slim chance of bringing him back is over.

For the better too. As fans we obviously want him to be back because of his incredible ability and how he developed at the club. Now we are solving our main issues, and building a team again. One reason why we were so good with him, Rooney, Tevez and even Berbatov - 4 outstanding players was our team was set up to be strong and got the best out of them. Even when we missed these players the drop off wasn't too bad as we had a set up capable of going forwards.

Now because our team play is so bad, we are reliant on our star players. Rooney, RVP, Mata, Januzaj and now Di Maria is arguably better than those 4 but when they are out the difference in our play is huge.

That will change now I'm sure.

Definitely over. Can't see it happening, and it probably shouldn't as we shouldn't be in the business of bringing 30 year old players to the club, particularly ones that would make us break our transfer record (again).

Can we loan him for tomorrow? I am struggling to think where the goals will come from at the moment!

Absolutely. Every summer window that's passed by in the last few years we've had people connected at United talk about a return. Sir Bobby, Dennis Irwin, Alan Keegan, Rio, Paddy Crerand and a few others. I think even Woody mentioned him on Andy Mitten's podcast. It seemed as much an obsession by the club as it is the fans.

I reckon we came close to bringing him back before his latest contract extension. Basing that on various comments made by the likes of Phelan and Rene after they left the club.

I went to a dinner at Old Trafford not long after the transfer deadline last year. Naturally people were annoyed that Ozil went to Arsenal thinking we messed up. Alan Keegan was the host and in a casual chat with people nearby was asked about it. He said a deal for Ozil was never on and when asked about Ronaldo he said that was much closer to happening than what people think.

I take that with a pinch of salt as he was pretty "eccentric" about his stories. Great anecdotes I must say.

If Fergie stayed on for one more season, I reckon he would of returned.

Valencia did give up the number 7 shirt and made some bullcrap excuse for it.

I think that was unrelated. Why give up the shirt, then try and sign Ronaldo?

I never appreciated Ronnie as much as I should when he was here. One of my eternal regrets. I just hope some day we have another special talent who blooms into a world class talent and I can see better what I never could with Ronaldo.
Nice sentiments. He was a player and a half wasn't he, and what a team we had eh! Puts the current lot to shame.

Bit surprised he didn't mention Queiroz too. Him and Fergie both really stuck by him through the rough years. Especially for moral guidance when his father ceased to live rather prematurely.

Perhaps it's because of Portugal's 0-1 defeat in Cape Town and the ensuing fallout.

Yep, Queiroz said some weird stuff about him as Portuguese manager, was not the best man management. If anything he had a great relationship with Scolari, who kept defending him even after he left as Portuguese manager.

 Even when he reached the heights no one dreamed he would before 2006? The last two seasons with the blizzards of goals, the world player of the year performances?

Didn't Jose compare him unfavorably with the Brazlilian Ronaldo by calling the Brazilian the Real Ronaldo. They also had problems during the last season didn't they. I remember a journalist asking Fergie about the 2 Ronaldos and he sided with Cristiano and called the other one fat or something. The Brazilian Ronaldo didn't take well to it and said he would be following United's games hoping they fail

I honestly think had SAF stayed he would be wearing the no.7 as we speak, so many things were pointing to it but it never happened. He truly is the greatest United player of my generation by a distance, its such a pity his best years were spent at another club. :(

I think he was just using us for a pay rise. For all the talks about how much he loves Manchester United while he was here he tried to leave almost every season he was here.

Unless Real have urged them not to pick him. Meaningless friendlies n'all that jazz...

Got to love Ronaldo. Just watched this clip from yesterday where he was asked about Di Maria joining us:

MUTV also showed a bit after this where he was asked if he is surprised by how we have started this season and he said:
"a bit, but it's only the start, they will get better for sure."

Also when asked if Real Madrid can become the first to successfully defend the Champions League trophy, he said: 'Why not - everything is possible. I had the opportunity to do it when I was at Manchester United and now for Real Madrid - the biggest clubs in the world so I am looking forward to getting a second chance.'

I think he sees our club differently know in that we can actually spend money that others can't. He knows we can compete with Real Madrid. I don't know why, but that satisfies me. I think is because it shows him that Real Madrid is not bigger than Man ud.

Why Ronaldo, Why couldn't you have gave these interviews 12 months ago?, Ya'know when we actually maybe could have had a chance of signing you!

He keeps doing these teases "I love Manchester", "You never know, the future blah blah" ffs so annoying knowing he might never grace Old Trafford in a red shirt ever again.

Just one year ago I couldn't honestly believe in the very idea of bringing him back. After today's and after proving how easily Woodward can make a grand business with guys like Mendes I say it's almost 100% possible of financially convincing Madrid to let it happen.

Viva Ronaldo, I know you helped convince Di Maria to come here. You will be back someday Ronnie, the second coming:devil: Legend CR7

Madrid fall short of glory this season in the league and Europe whats the stop us bidding? Ronaldo will be 30 before the season ends and is showing no sign of slowing down on his goal return.

Whats a 30 year old Ronaldo worth, €60-70 million? I'd happily see him return, he'd boost out goal outcome by 30-40 goals a season from a position we've lacked goals in since he's left. He easily has 5 seasons left in him, the freak.

433 with a front 3 of Ronaldo-Falcao-Di Maria
