Your point would have credence if I said "he's not a great player because he's an arrogant diver". I said "he's one of the best of all time but I don't like him because he's an arrogant diver".

There's a clear difference. Are we really getting to the stage now where anything remotely negative is not allowed?

No everything is allowed you can say whatever you please, its your opinion i might not agree with it but you're entitled to it. One thing i dont understand is that you have said countless times that you dont care or give a F... about Ronaldo but yet it seems you cant stop talking about the guy.

They defended horribly, that's why he was through on goal 4 or 5 times, he saw big gaps, he used his pace to exploit them, it's not earth shattering is it, that's why he had 2 or 3 additional clear cut chances. No, please continue. Just don't expect everyone else to focus on the poor defending and not on Ronaldo's 4 goals in 2 world cup playoffs, which took his team to the finals. Anyway, there have been quite a few that mentioned the defending, and that's not including the three or four times you chose to hammer home the point.

Fact is, you could out some really great players in Ronaldo's situation last night, give them the same opportunities to perform score, and they wouldn't. Even with the defending everything Ronaldo did to score was impressive, the first touches, the pace, the precision.

There's several strikers who could have taken those chances and scored those goals given that room. Don't worry I didn't expect anyone to focus on the crap defending, I'm well aware the majority of United fans have an emotional attachment to him and therefore can't resist blowing their load at such things. I think the fact that injuries to Messi have given him his first real chance to win the Ballon D'or since 2008 has gotten people a tad over-excited too. Understandable I suppose.

It is weird, and he gave us 3 good years 3 great years. But I see the sad part being he could have easily become a United legend here. Instead he will make a stake in the Madrid history books and we will become known more as the club who made him. To think how much more we could have possibly won with him still here?

Do you imagine things just so you can go to sleep at night thinking about ways in which Ronaldo proves the "haters" wrong? That's the bizarre thing that you people don't get. Most people don't have intense relationships with individual players. Most people just like the football and like watching good players play. I'm delighted Portugal have come to the World Cup instead of Sweden because Portugal are a better team, and Ronaldo's a big part of that. This idea you have that I'm wincing every time Ronaldo scores a goal is insane and shows the kind of Ronaldo-centric world you live in. I thought Ronaldo's goals yesterday were great. He's incredibly efficient in almost every move he makes when he's in behind the defence. I love that and his movement.

We're not a one man team, and it's a shame that even the Portugues press in relentless adulation are the first to blame for this idea. We're like any other team that would be dramatically inferior if you take their best player off. To say otherwise is disrespectful to players like Meireles, Moutinho, Pepe, Alves, Coentrão, who worked their bollocks off to earn points for Portugal during the 8 qualifiers or so that Ronaldo failed to be seen at all and pouted due to receiving inferior service than what he usually gets at Real.

Not to take anything away from his sublime ability and form of course. I don't think any other player in the world, bar a Messi at the top of his form, which he isn't, could have taken those chances.

He just takes the piss. It's not even a surprise when you read the headline 'Another hat-trick..." It's basically cheating having him in the team.
 
Gotta love him. Gutted he left but the time he spent here, watching him grow from that 18 year old "one trick pony" into the best player in the world was some of the best, most enjoyable memories for Utd fans in recent times, surely?

These days he's just something else. Complete goal machine. Up there with the all-time greats.

On the same note it doesn't sound very logic to host a prize for the 2013 year (and people love to empathize this) and most players have already made their mind up or voted by early October, particularly when it's a close race between 2 or 3 players.

If that's their "calendar" than they might as well give prizes for the season instead of the year, which would make more logic in the first place.

reopening means Ribery probably came out with most votes and this is FIFA's way of saying "we're terribly sorry for Blatter's comments Cristiano, here's the ballon d'or".

ps, people would change their votes, plenty of people who forget what happened a month ago and go game by game.

It's the history of how these awards are often given, based on one or two of the highest profile games of the year (i.e. Zidane 1998, Zidane 2000, Ronaldo 2002, Cannavaro 2006, Kaka 2007, etc.).
 
He has been amazing this season but for me the Ballon d'or should be about what you do at the business end of the season. In that case it should go to Ribery, but Ronaldo has been so good this season no one can really fell aggrieved if he won. He took his goals really well, quality finishes from some great assists.
