This thread is funny
I'm not sure pride is a strong enough word.
Theres always something to nitpick, when he scores its cause the defence was shit when he doesnt score they single that game out for future reference to use against him, they have to resort to irrelevant things like saying hes arrogant and that he dives(as if the other great players didnt or dont)or that he doesnt track back, or that he antagonizes opposite fans They are desperately scrapping the bottom of the barrel to find things to bitch about him , cause his performances and numbers dont give them much ammunition to work with so they resort to things that are irrelevant. Just petty little things from petty little persons.
It's funny that everytime Ronaldo scores it's because the defence was horrendous.
He destroys la liga - it's because the defending is horrible there according to many haters. But they quickly forget he made England his bitch and now constantly makes Champions league winning caliber teams look like pub teams. HE SCORES AGAINST EVERYBODY. Deal with it haters. It's not a matter about bad defences. It's about him being too good and you can't do anything about it to stop it.
There's a clear difference. Are we really getting to the stage now where anything remotely negative is not allowed?
No everything is allowed you can say whatever you please, its your opinion i might not agree with it but you're entitled to it. One thing i dont understand is that you have said countless times that you dont care or give a F... about Ronaldo but yet it seems you cant stop talking about the guy.Your point would have credence if I said "he's not a great player because he's an arrogant diver". I said "he's one of the best of all time but I don't like him because he's an arrogant diver".

Sorry for bucking the trend of gushing at those stunning individual efforts. Breaking through a well organized defence before finishing from impossible angles
They defended horribly, that's why he was through on goal 4 or 5 times, he saw big gaps, he used his pace to exploit them, it's not earth shattering is it, that's why he had 2 or 3 additional clear cut chances. Sweden are not a very good side, that's just fact. If it gets in the way of gushing I apologize, I didn't realize the thread was for that only
Do you take pride in Ronaldo playing well?
No, please continue. Just don't expect everyone else to focus on the poor defending and not on Ronaldo's 4 goals in 2 world cup playoffs, which took his team to the finals. Anyway, there have been quite a few that mentioned the defending, and that's not including the three or four times you chose to hammer home the point.
Fact is, you could out some really great players in Ronaldo's situation last night, give them the same opportunities to perform score, and they wouldn't. Even with the defending everything Ronaldo did to score was impressive, the first touches, the pace, the precision.
I take pride that Manchester United football club produced the second best player of all time, yes. Unlike you I take pride in Cristiano because he was produced by United.
You on the other hand constantly find ways to blast him. I remember you saying Van Persie would have more of an impact than Ronaldo at this club Just face it brwned, you hate him and it kills you seeing him score for fun because of that kaka>ronaldo thread.
India hasn't produced an international footballer in ages.
Am I qualified enough to contribute in this thread?

Just because he doesn't rate Ronaldo as highly as other, means that he hates him?
Nice.

He constantly finds ways to belittle him though. RvP and the Kaka examples are just two of the lot.
There's several strikers who could have taken those chances and scored those goals given that room. Don't worry I didn't expect anyone to focus on the crap defending, I'm well aware the majority of United fans have an emotional attachment to him and therefore can't resist blowing their load at such things. I think the fact that injuries to Messi have given him his first real chance to win the Ballon D'or since 2008 has gotten people a tad over-excited too. Understandable I suppose.
Weird way of looking at it. It'd be better if he hadn't left but it's hardly sad that he gave us 6 good years.

Do you imagine things just so you can go to sleep at night thinking about ways in which Ronaldo proves the "haters" wrong? That's the bizarre thing that you people don't get. Most people don't have intense relationships with individual players. Most people just like the football and like watching good players play. I'm delighted Portugal have come to the World Cup instead of Sweden because Portugal are a better team, and Ronaldo's a big part of that. This idea you have that I'm wincing every time Ronaldo scores a goal is insane and shows the kind of Ronaldo-centric world you live in. I thought Ronaldo's goals yesterday were great. He's incredibly efficient in almost every move he makes when he's in behind the defence. I love that and his movement.
Ronaldo didn't carry Portugal to the World Cup single-handedly, that's an hyperbole erring on the disrespect to the other (not many indeed) top Portuguese players. He carried us through the play-off with his goals (none of which was of his exclusive merit) and insane finishing ability. In the group phase he scored 4 out of 20 goals (against N. Ireland and Luxembourg) and was invisible in most of the other matches.
If the team isn't good enough overall, it won't be him alone to turn it around for us, I don't remember him ever doing that. The time he spends on the wing when we're in possession is invariably a waste, he never beats his man any more to create a goal out of nothing. In the first tie against Sweden he was dire the whole match, went to the finishing area at the end of the game, scored a goal and hit the bar a couple of minutes later.
Yesterday he had the prime conditions to succeed in the second half, with Sweden chasing a disadvantage, the space he craves so much, and pinpoint world class assists that don't happen every game either. It was more of a "Real Madrid" Ronaldo, and unanimously considered his best performance ever for the Portuguese team. It came perfect and at the right time.
We're not a one man team, and it's a shame that even the Portugues press in relentless adulation are the first to blame for this idea. We're like any other team that would be dramatically inferior if you take their best player off. To say otherwise is disrespectful to players like Meireles, Moutinho, Pepe, Alves, Coentrão, who worked their bollocks off to earn points for Portugal during the 8 qualifiers or so that Ronaldo failed to be seen at all and pouted due to receiving inferior service than what he usually gets at Real.
Not to take anything away from his sublime ability and form of course. I don't think any other player in the world, bar a Messi at the top of his form, which he isn't, could have taken those chances.

You never saw Best, Cruyff, Pele, Di Stefano, Maradonna in their pomp
On the same note it doesn't sound very logic to host a prize for the 2013 year (and people love to empathize this) and most players have already made their mind up or voted by early October, particularly when it's a close race between 2 or 3 players.I think that people would have to be really stupid to change their vote based on one or two games.

Why did you mention Best?
