Guy having a row with the journalist who has broke this 'world exclusive'

Way to kill even that 1% hope we all had.

I do love the long posts of why it's a "Logical" move though.

What you have to think though, is that if there was any prospect of getting Ronaldo, we wouldn't be mucking about spending weeks pursuing anyone else, not even a Fabregas

"I went into the dressing room to speak to all the players, the coach, the president, to the Glazers," said Ronaldo. "I spoke with Giggsy and he's an incredible player, still fit and still playing in these kind of games. He is the flag of this club and I'm happy for him. I think he's going to finish when he's 50!"

Is this when Fergie, Gill and the Glazers did it? ;) Straw-clutching

I think they believe that Barcelona are leaving them behind, they've just bought Neymar to add to Messi, Xavi and Iniesta whilst Madrid have got Isco but lost Mourinho.

Any other club and I'd be agreeing with you but not Madrid, they are going to launch their attempt at la decima with a Ronaldo/Bale partnership.

They've hardly got a mug in Ancelotti to replace him though!

Hasn't Di Maria signed a new contract?

If a guy wants to prove he's spoken to somebody via DM on twitter why not show a screenshot of the message rather than an IPhone note with a date you can change in the settings on your phone?

Yeah true. And the thing is we probably are in more need of Fabregas (or a top class CM) than we are of Ronaldo.

Saying that I wouldnt say no if there was any chance of Ronaldo coming back.

When Real have played him down the middle he's been much less effective. As for playing on the right, it's been a very long time since he's done that. In fact I don't think he's played there once for Madrid, and I imagine there's a reason for that.

Yeah: the reason is that he scored 201 goals in 199 games playing from the left.

No matter what Bale brings to the table, moving Ronaldo from the position where he made that kind of impact would be madness. Yes, he can play on either flank but removing him from his favourite position for the sake of Gareth fecking Bale... he'd love that, with the ego he's got.

If Madrid do indeed insist on getting Bale, they'd be better off with trying him on the right. He can cut in and take all those speculative shots with his left.

I find it quite bizarre how so many of you manage to exist under the retarded impression that only one deal can be worked on at a time.

Am I the only one who's not getting SUPER excited about this transfer? We already had him in the team and it won't really add anything new - that's my initial feeling.

The only thing that gets me going a bit is that we might have the best striking force in the world and reestablish the tripple R attack Ronaldo - Robin - Rooney. That's not bad to say the least. Ehm, however, I believe signing Ronaldo will mean we have to get rid of Rooney. So we're basically back to square one again.

What the feck? You're wumming, right? This is some shit joke, it must be.

If were going to resign Ronaldo then we might as well also sign Sweinsteiger and Gotze this summer from Bayern. Then we should sign Messi and Xavi too. And then we should really sign Reus, Lewnandowski and Hummels from Dortmund also just so that our team has the right balance in every position. Maybe we could sell Nani and Anderson to raise the cash for all of these signings

I was being serious. It's just a personal opinion. I rather see something totally fresch, and fecking hell, throwing £80m out on the market like that for a 27 year old is pretty steep. We could probably get both modric and Fabregas for that sort of money. We would be a very unbalanced team without another quality midfielder. Why the hell do you think Scholes returned to the side?

Should be no surprise the Daily Star made an article out of something that was said in the Bale transfer thread

Well it's all right to say that we should rather sign two quality midfielders - to an extent I agree that midfield is a far more serious concern than anything else.

But "we're back to square one if Rooney leaves" - come on. I like Rooney the footballer, I consider him a great player but Ronaldo is in another dimension, he's far, far, far the better player, he would be a massive improvement on Rooney. Not to mention the likes of Young and Valencia...

Hypothetical scenario: if the choice is one true quality CM or Ronaldo then I'd go for the CM, probably because we're in a mess there. But if it'd be a choice between two quality CMs or one plus Ronaldo then I'd go for the latter option.

Having said all that, Ronaldo's not coming back, it'll never happen so it's all a bit pointless.

I don't believe for a second Ronaldo's coming back here, but how exactly did this guy "invent" the story? It's been rumbling on around disreputable sites & sources all summer hasn't it? I find it odd that someone with about as many followers as me started it.

Or is it a specific aspect of the story he made up that they're copying? I can't be bothered to read someone's timeline.

I think the kid is saying that he was the first to realise the logic that 'Bale to Madrid = Ronaldo to United' he then spoke to the Daily Star about it, and they have run with the story.
Because nobody else could have thought of that.. and because he thought of it with no sources or ITK, it can't possibly coincide with the truth either.

Basically, he's an idiot. I can't believe somebody posted this in here.

Im not just dismissing the story here but genuinely wondering how it works in media. For example, lets say all of this turns out to be complete and utter rubbish, is this guy answerable to anybody? editor? colleagues? other journalists from other papers?

can you literally go to work and make anything you like up? i mean, if he chooses can he write a story tomorrow saying united have bid 50m for suarez and quote "united sources" or does he have to have some sort of credibility?

Most probably get a pat on the back for selling 'x' amount of papers more than they normally would.

I've just spoken to a guy who's a cameraman for Sky. Does the football matches and interviews and stuff. He's legit he was still wearing his Sky ID. He said that they are very confident that Ronaldo is coming.

Yes, it would seem so...try Alan Nixon of The Mirror. Consistently shite articles simply fabricating transfer rumours.

LOL...and under what circumstances were you conversing with a Sky camera man?

I don't know why anyone would give a Star story credibility anyway, regardless of whistleblowers on Twitter. It's the Star. It's The Sun for people who think The Sun has too much news in it.

Are you sure it wasn't a Sky salesman trying to sell you the Sky Sports package?

I love that the Star haven't just called it an exclusive but 'another world exclusive.' Presumably this is just the latest in a long line of exclusives the Star had before anyone else in the world.

Tbf, they have had a number of stories no one else in the world has had. That's one of the benefits of making up all your stories.

Tbf this Joe Taylor guy seems like a bit of a twunt. Why not post the whole DM conversation rather than posting this?

Also he rather conveniently "deleted" this dm from the journo before the story break.

I'm not saying the story is true

He doesn't even get free Sky TV either. Also does cameras on Rugby and Cricket and Darts interviews. He's filming at the Rochdale game tomorrow too.

That's how it started as he wasn't my customer, he was waiting for the other salesman so he could pick up his new car. I asked him if he got free Sky, he said no they were subcontracted or something. He said cricket was boring to film, so I suggested he couldn't wait for the footy season to start. He said he wasn't that into football anymore, but he supports United if anyone cos of his missus. Anyway, I said I was just waiting for us to sign anyone and he said, confidently, 'Ronaldo is coming'. I said 'You're having a laugh' and then he said, 'No, its at the stage where we are going to have camera people at the airport'.

Now it could easily be bullshit, but his employment stacked up, and it was just the way that he said it.

I'm not one for WUMs. I don't bother. Just thought that considering the source it was worth reporting here.

"Hope" is an evil thing. I would love Ronaldo to come back to United, and want to believe the stories, but I can't help but feel i'll end up disappointed again.

Yea it's fair enough to post it, I just wouldn't hold your breath on it coming to anything!
