Cristiano Ronaldo

TeamTalk have posted the news about Ronaldo too, and they tend to not post gossip, as they are a subsidiary of Sky Sports, and they usually stick to official stuff, kinda like BBC.

Mental news, if true. I just can't see it happening though. How on earth could we afford him?

The independent don't claim themselves, they say: "according to claims made by Spanish newspaper El Pais."

If it's even slightly true, I can't see Rooney being around much longer - that's how we could partially afford him.

Wow - from the Independent article posted above:

What United save on not having to pay Madrid for his transfer now they could plough into a €60m signing on fee and €20m (£16.9m) a year take home pay across four years with 100 percent of his image rights – currently shared 60-40 in his favour with Real Madrid.

As signing on fees go thats not too shabby...

All of these papers and media are just taking from the first source and posting it as theirs, it has always been like that

Real Madrid like Barcelona pays their taxes so Ronaldo and Messi if they get paid 15 mil means the teams pay another 15 mil to the tax man.

Still disproves that commenter's claim though. Taxes are never going to be the reason we don't pay someone as much money as a Spanish club, seeing as theirs are higher.

I have never at any point thought there was any chance of Ronaldo coming to us this summer, and still don't.

That said, if we kept Rooney and bought Thiago and Ronaldo, this would comfortably be our best ever transfer window, for me. Strootman would be a nice bonus, Garay a slight negative (because really, why?)

If we get Ronoaldo, we will sell Rooney. And I'll be a happy person if this happens.

Ronaldo, Alcantara and Strootman/McCarthy in. Rooney, Nani and Ando out. Treble winner.

We're keeping Rooney. The 3 R's will make the world quake.

 I prefer to keep our current best players and add more, but whatever. Try and keep the weird shit to the Rooney thread, though.
I'm sure that everyone would like to have as many great players as possible. It's not always a viable option though. Nothing weird about being happy about trading up.

It would be difficult and pretty risky to try making a Galactico MK2. Also paying 3 players in the region of 200,000 pounds per week or more is a bit unhealthy.

The club would not do it if it wasn't financially responsible. So I wouldn't worry about that. I don't think buying Ronaldo and keeping Rooney would be a 'galactico' approach. They already both played for us once, after all.

What I don't like is selling current players when they're good enough for us, even in exchange for better players. Sell Park - fine, he was past his best. Sell Anderson - no problem, maybe he's past the point of ever really fulfilling his potential. But don't sell Rooney, one of our best players. Either buy Ronaldo outright or don't bother.

(Like I say, I am almost 100% certain that there's no chance of Ronaldo moving. I'm just playing in the hypothetical garden.)

Me too. Typical transfer muppet discussion.

Don't agree with your last point (Either buy Ronaldo outright or don't bother). Ronaldo is a supreme player to Rooney. If we need to sell Rooney in order to get Ronaldo, so do it. We get a much better player.

I don't disagree that Ronaldo is the better player (he's the second best in the world, after all). But I don't like the idea that we would run the club that way. You can't criticise Rooney for not being loyal if we would discard him the second the option to swap him for a shinier toy turned up. I like the idea that we always look to add to what we've got, and to build on a stable base. Our first priority should always be to keep our best players. Our second should be to have a constant stream of young talent coming up behind them, both kids from our own academy and shrewd purchases from elsewhere. Our third should be to add ready-made superstars when the opportunity or necessity arises. Swapping Ronaldo for Rooney fulfils the third requirement but violates the first, and that's why I wouldn't want us to do it. That, more than just buying Ronaldo outright, would be 'galactico' behaviour - constantly selling great players in order to replace them with even better players from elsewhere. It suggests that there's no difference between a player who's already at the club and a player who isn't besides money, which seems sad, and too much like City for my taste. We should be running a club, not a talent merry-go-round.

I'm not trying to convince you here, just describing an opinion - the way I feel about how the club should be run. There's no 'right' way, just different ones.

Rooney has asked two times to get out of United, we don't need to be loyal to him, if we have the chance we should grant his wishes. Especially if the money from his transfer and wages make possible a Ronaldo transfer.

Anyway, we're running on circles now, so better to stop it, cause we have two different ideas on this. I would be glad to swap Rooney for Ronaldo, and in factI even fancy the idea of making Kagawa our first No. 10 and benching or selling Rooney.

Back to the most important thread of all, the thread of our new boy, Thiago. See you there.

This isn't really on, is it?

I don't say this often, but I'd absolutely pull the dick off myself if we brought Ronaldo back.

Cock is not coming out. Sorry muppets.
But your hand is involuntarily hovering near the zipper.

This could be negotiations to get a better contract. I though believe this is on. This all started up last transfer window. I think this is a real possibility. A very real possibility that we will have Ronaldo as our number 7 again.
We'll know better next week.

Put him on a plane, bring him back from Spain!

Meanwhile back on planet earth you've lost the best British manager of all time and got... David fecking Moyes.

So? He's inheriting a squad that are league champions he will do well. Meanwhile...Arsenal haven't won a trophy in 7 years.
