Cristiano Ronaldo | Transfer Speculation

Based on what evidence?

The only thing he has said directly about us is that we are his past.

Playing in ligue 1 or with us ? A simple choice given his past with us was a great one and there are still good relations. Happiness is the most important thing he will seek for which will be with us.

Everyone who wants him back, be careful what you wish for. Yes, he's the worlds biggest footballing superstar, an extremely deadly striker and a United legend. But even if at 32 he shows no signs of slowing down, he requires careful dosification in order to perform. How will that play with Mourinho who's slowly building up his squad?

Then there's the whole question of the distractions resulting from this legal case. If the Spanish tribunal presses charges, him leaving will look very, very bad, and might influence the judges against him. In the worst case scenario, paying the fine is not enough and could result in a jail sentence. Granted rich people always get their sentences suspended (like Messi) but it's still a mess.

Ronaldo seems to be holding Real to ransom every year.

We have no idea what he wants from all this. It's not contract related, we don't know if he wants a messi hashtag or government influence, or Madrid pay the fine, or he actually wants to leave.

He probably had a chat with Messi.
Probably. They take turns. So now messi got a new contract, it's his turn.

I would be surprised if he actually wants to leave. Any other club is a step down and at RM he would have the best chance to overtake messi's ballon d'or haul.

Unless he feels like he is in decline and can't continue this level

You really don't have to.

Even if that were true, the club could just ask for a ridiculous fee.
Right.

But it would hardly be the 1 billion buy out clause. If it were true he wanted out surely he'd only go for about 100 million in todays market, which considering what a successful buy he's been for them getting 100 mil would still be incredible business for them.

I fully expect him to finish his career there. Why would he leave, 14 mil is nothing to him ffs.

Does anybody know if Real Madrid can realistically fix this (money wise) what exactly would need to happen? The bill is about 10-14 million, would they need to pay it out of their own pocket to keep him happy? Surely a one time 10-14 million payment to keep Ronaldo isnt even that bad?

This stinks of a "whos gonna blink first" contest. I can't wait until the day Real Madrid decide theyre bigger than him, then he can come home!

The prices that are going around for him are ridiculous. He has a couple of years left in the tank and even during those he wouldn't have his speed anymore.

Yeah but he's not just a speed merchant. If we were going to manage 5 shots on goal all game against any team? I'd want Ronaldo to have all 5. Not everyone can remodel themselves and we're not at that point but I wouldn't put it past him. Giggs did it and it's not beyond Ronaldo

I think that's basically what they are angling for. He feels it's their fault and is saying to them "Pay 15m to clear my tax bill, you owe me this for everything I have achieved here. Also, 15m is the transfer fee of a very average player, I'm the best in the world so you would be stupid not to pay it to have me here next year".

If the rumours are true - that they asked the press not to use photos of him in a Real kit when reporting the story, you can see why he'd be a bit hacked off.

From the other angle, why would the club pay his tax bill? If he's taken bad advice it's his problem, not theirs.

Yeah, was a journalist for 13-years...only left last year. Worked in Dublin for most of that, writing about United, so getting to know the lads on the Manchester beat then I moved to London, but was still heavily involved with United. Been a United fan since I was a kid.

I've worked both tabloid and broadsheet.

Can tell you, hand on heart, that football journalists have zero influence anymore. I think I posted about it on here before. Clubs/managers/players no longer need journalists as middle men. Media (which means 'middle') has evolved so much, that newspapers have become almost obsolete. All of these guys thinking they have 'insiders' and writing bollocks about transfers are taking daily guesses. I've taken guesses myself. It's how modern newspaper journalism goes.

I stand back and look at the tweets of people like Miguel Delaney, Neil Custis, Ducker..De Brun etc and just cringe for them. I know for certain they are all guessing.

What's always interesting is that nobody ever brings anything new to the table. Marca confirm United's interest in Morata and then - and only then - do all journalists on the Manchester beat suddenly know everything about what's going on. They didn;t know the story in the first place, but now that it looks likely to happen, they suddenly know every tiny detail...wages, fee, when he'll sign, where he'll fit into Jose's team etc...Absolute bullshitters. Last summer's falling about over Pogba was hilarious to read. It was really embarrassing for British journalists, they amount of guessing and fecking up they did was like a Laurel and Hardy movie. They got every detail of that transfer wrong all summer. British journalists don't get fed information. They have zero influence or power. They are now just a laughing stock. And take it from me; United don't leak a thing! They just don't. United are probably the most difficult football club on the planet to get any heads up from. They keep everything in-house. Football news has changed dramatically.

Years ago, if a football club wanted to inform fans of information, they would use what is called a middle man (media). They'd ring a journalist or put out a press release to sports editors and they would write a story, blah, blah, informing the fan. Now, clubs/players etc no longer need a 'middle man'...if they want news put out there to the millions of fans around the world, they can do it with the push of a button (social media, club's own website etc). A newspaper journalist is no longer needed. A newspaper journalist is obsolete. Hence, why I am now writing books and not lying to everyone else - and even myself - for a living.

Don't you all find it hilarious that nobody - not one journalist in the whole of the world - knew anything about Ronaldo yesterday morning. Then suddenly news breaks in Spain of his ambition to leave Real and suddenly EVERY journalist knows everything. Where he wants to go, how much he will cost, what he told his teammates, two hacks have even reported that Mourinho has already told people he doesn't want Ronaldo, even though Mourinho was on along-haul flight most of yesterday evening, these journalists now report that he held secret talks with PSG a month ago - yet didn't report it at the time. You couldn't make this shit up.....except they actually do! Football reporting is only one of two things these days; it's either embarrassing or funny It's nothing other than that. It can not be taking seriously.
Thank you for your great post! Very insightful.

Imagine what Ronaldo will do in a league where the likes of Harry Kane and Lukaku are banging in goals for fun.

And, unlike a lot of signings from abroad he's League proven. He scored plenty of goals for us whilst having the shite kicked out of him on a regular basis. In terms of buying goals I think he's as close as a sure thing as you can get.

Ah, I see. Cheers for the info and small anecdotes in there. Just confirming what we all half-knew but continue to play along because we hope for good news. ;)

They have no jurisdiction over him if he's not in the country!

And how do we know your not BSing us??!!?

Just kidding, irrespective of whether you were a joirno or not what you have said is the position I hold. They know nothing unless they are briefed like Duncan Castles for example and it's rarely any more than just before the official announcement before the club.

The papers are almost completely obsolete and will be dead on the sports from when clubs realise if they control the narrative and release the fianal word themselves they will get people clicking on their official social media sites generating them cash instead. I hope all clubs do this to stop these clowns from stealing a living.

You make a good point but, as other have mentioned, you would need the team to be tailored around him as well.

I would pay 100 million euros for him, we would make that in no time and also woodward gets to tell everyone how big his dick is. We will get a guarnatee of 30 goals a season. Also it will be amazing and so sentimental and all that. Make it happen woodward.

I know it wont and it ends with him signing a contract and saying Hala madrid and kissing madrid batch. Hope!

If we managed to get Morata and Ronaldo, that can be done easily. Morata's heat map shows he likes to drift to the left flanks, pulling CB away and creating space for Ronaldo who will start on the left. In a 433, this will mean Pogba and Herrera will push up to support the left and right flanks too, while whoever starts on the right will be moving into the box, creating space for Valencia. Problem is that the Morata deal needs to be our priority and that seems to have stallled.

Why should they pay it though? He's fecked up. If the tax man comes after you or I then we have to pay up. No questions asked and no bail out by our employer.

He should stop being a little bitch and pay up what he should have paid in the first place.

The guy earnt £90 fecking million last year, what's £15 million to him?

They do still do this though, it was a clear case United briefed the press on the Griezemann transfer, no?

They would have no jurisdiction over him and no authority to enforce payment.

I don't know how it works in Spain, but here they wouldn't even be able to proceed with the case in his absence.
interesting, so threatening to leave Spain would be a genuine threat to make

That's not true. It's easy to enforce criminal or civil penalties across borders in the EU - and further afield due to numerous treaties.

You can't just move away when you're being investigated for a crime. Any fine will be enforced, not least as he'll have assets in Spain which can be frozen if they think he won't pay. Any criminal sanction can be enforced across borders.

It's irrelevant anyway. From a PR perspective alone he'll do all he can to cooperate.

I also think that will be his eventual get-out. When Real inevitably back him and pay his tax bill he'll say he was angry and upset with Spain and not real.

Then everything will return to normal.
