He had a good tournament, in my absolutely honest opinion.

I have followed the guys's whole career and his job right now is to score goals. And he did. He played his role well.

Sure nitpick one game, as if he didn’t show up in the whole tournament. I love the hate he produces. As the saying goes they hate you when you are on top and he’s been the top dog for 15+ years

Other stars didn't perform for Portugal, it was a systemic issue. But he's still the top scorer in the tournament, and the doubters are out.

If your second sentence is true, then it explains Ronaldo's fans' hatred of Messi.

No clue why the last point even matters when Ronaldo didn't play in the final and his teammates beat France without him.

If he can't or isn't willing to press, of if he continues to play at a level this awful in the knockout games, it's best he doesn't play past the next world cup.

Here is a real fact though the same summer Ronaldo led Portugal to it’s first major international tournament win Lionel Messi missed the pen and then retired from Argentina, as is expected considering his weak mentality he quit on his country.

When Modric won, Messi was the better player. When Portugal won, Ronaldo didn't play against the only decent team they faced all season.

The debate ended when Messi got the 6th and it's all over for Ronaldo.
 
I mean I don't find the penalties extraordinary to really play up his quality on the overall tournament . It's a dead ball situation. It's not the greatest sporting feat to put 3 penalties in.

But it's a huge accumulation of pressure to be there so many times, and he delivered each time. No chance. People talk a lot about bottling and all that, and *every* player will bottle it every once in a while, but he was stone cold there each time.

You certainly can't fault him for that.
