I would have him back in an instant.

I seriously don't believe there is a football club on the planet that wouldn't bite your hand off to have him.

Yes of course. Although this is probably the last year where it would make sense to take him back.

I was one of those who wanted him back, but that was when Ferguson was around. Don't know how he'd get along with Van Gaal. Then again, he'd probably continue where he left off for us, in terms of goals. It's quite a conundrum. Is it just me or is his tantrums getting more and more frequent nowadays, especially since the Madrid move? Or has he always been this way but none of the press got hold of videos of him stropping thanks to Carrington's security?

I think he and LvG would work well together. There may be a bit of anxiety that both would butt heads a bit because LvG can be a hardliner and Ronaldo is much more independent these days, but imo if he could work under Fergie, he can with LvG as well. In fact I think it would do Ronnie good to get a bit more structure with an experienced manager.

Could you imagine Gaal instructing ronaldo to play up top, and have 30 odd touches, or require him to play with the reserves and earn his place and fitness.

If I had to explain to someone who doesnt watch football how far ahead ronaldo (and messi) of every else, I wouldnt know where to start.

Thinking about it, ronaldo would probably prefer only 30 odd touches these days, providing he scores a couple.

Cristiano Ronaldo 'unhappy' with Rafael Benitez training at Real Madrid

Ronaldo - who notoriously tweeted his support for his previous manager, Carlo Ancelotti, just before he was sacked at the end of last season - is currently with Real on their pre-season tour of Australia.

The La Liga club face Manchester City in a pre-season friendly in Melbourne on Friday, but their preparations have been disrupted by claims that Ronaldo is unhappy with Benitez's methods of training.

Ronaldo was also alleged to have been unhappy with Benitez's refereeing of a training match, with Spanish TV cameras recording him saying: “He gives everything against the Portuguese” and also recording an outburst after Benitez disallowed one of his goals.

Benitez appeared entirely unconcerned by suggestions Ronaldo might not be happy, and used a press conference in Australia to heap praise on the player - whom he had previously described as 'only' one of the best players in the world. That jarred with what has become the politically cute response of previous Real coaches, who habitually lauded him as the planet's greatest, mindful of his special status at the club.

“My relationship with him is the same as the rest of the players - I speak to them all," Benitez said, when asked about the nature of his relationship with Ronaldo. "There are those who are speculating on this or that but I can assure you that the relationship is totally normal.

“Fortunately after working with him you can see how competitive he is and how keen he is to win. He is a competitive guy and that’s the key. This is a positive thing not a defect.

"He has great quality and that’s what makes him the best player in the world.

"I wish all the players had the same enthusiasm to compete and win. He shows this on a day by day basis and I’m delighted with him.”

Media making a way too much of a big deal out of nothing.

Just saw the highlight video of his debut match again  There was so much excitement in the crowd every time he got on the ball!

Do other clubs have these fascinations with bringing players back? Even when we sell some reserve player someone always starts asking about a buy back clause.

Real Madrid almost always put a buyback in their sales and regularly buy back the players from their academy, sometimes years later. Not at 30 though.

He's always (apparently) been like it. Happy when a move goes right, annoyed when it doesn't, right down to the notorious screams of frustration, even in training. It's not done for an audience, it's something in his head about how he maintains his concentration. It's probably part of the reason why his mid-match moans don't annoy his teammates - it's nothing personal against them.

Is there anyways the stats could be viewed which would make him top scorer already? I think someone mentioned that friendlies could be included? If we could make a strong case and somehow present it to him or have it accepted as fact then I think he would move this window. Alternatively I think Madrid have two league games before the window closes- might be pushing it a bit though. Otherwise it's January or next year I'm afraid.

I seriously see him leaving Real, but I would bet on PSG.

Next year he is definitely leaving. He will have 2 years left on contract, he will be 31 and Real Madrid will want to cash in. They won't want to renew and offer him that much wages at age of 31. He too won't mind leaving as well. PSG will be most likely destiantion, yes. Don't think United will want to pay huge transfer fee AND wages. Unless he keeps up same level this season too (that is crossing 50 goals min), which can get us interested.
All said & done, just sad that he didn't stay around at United as he would have still won the BdOs plus won us at least one more CL and PL. Plus there wouldn't have been any ego clashes as everyone loved him here and United is not a political circus like Real Madrid.

I agree with mostly all that you said.

I just hope this time in 5 years we don't regret not signing him back should we have a chance.

How many goals is he off breaking Real's record? He won't move till next season at least.

On 2nd thought, Raul's record is not worth bothering about tbh...Ronaldo is 'just' 131 behind Sir Bobby, that is more important. 4 seasons considering age should be enough to reach there. Chance to be 2nd behind Rooney in all time goal scorer for United. Go for it, Ronnie!

Worth a try even if it only lays the groundwork for a return next season, if Ronnie is even 1% available you expect us to be interested.

He'd probably be first ahead of Rooney if he moved here now at the rate he's scoring. He can easily get 20 more a season and he's 112 behind, and he'll probably go for 1-2 seasons more than Rooney.

I don't think too many people would complain if we sold Di Maria for 40-45m pounds to cover half of Ronaldo's fee.

Players like Ronaldo pay their fee back instantly. Players like him guarantee you a successful business model both on and off the pitch, so whatever the price anyone pays for him he's always worth it. Say if we bought Ronaldo, we'd probably win the league with Jones and McNair at centre back. You wouldnt need much else with him. He's dynamite.

Hope one day he comes back, though. Would love to read the Ronaldo transfer thread if he ever did sign for us again.

Say we signed him for £65million that's:

Signed for £12m in 2003
Signed for £65m in 2015 = £77m on buying this player

Sold for £80m in 2009 = £80m received on this player = £3m profit + all the money already won from trophies won, plus future trophies he would win and the huge amount of shirts he would sell.

He would be worth a club record deal even now he is over 30. However, I don't see Real Madrid selling him atall and he will want to stay and break the goalscoring record there. Plus, MEN are talking shit.

Won't happen. I believe there are more unlikely transfers that have happened in the past though.

I think at least half of those 400 odd who voted No in poll of this thread will still moan.

I dont think this is out of the realms of possibility.

any thoughts on the whole 10goals off being their top goalscorer in history?
This is the summer that the prospect is zero! Next summer, every chance.

Why do you think he'd sit behind Rooney?

Ronaldo would be the goal man, and Rooney the bridesmaid again. He'd overtake Rooney!

With 112 goal head start, it might be tough even for Ronaldo. Who knows though, I will be happy either way :D
