When you become the best athlete on the planet and an international sex symbol, it probably goes to your head a bit. Just to get to the level of professional footballer you've got to have an enormous amount of self-confidence and a bit of an ego...let alone the level he achieved.
So, when in the span of 3 or 4 years you go from the best footballer on the planet on his way to cementing his legacy as the best ever, to a player who is absolutely cooked and cannot even buy a goal in Europe's second-rate competition, it's probably not very easy to accept.
