Souness believes he should be treated differently because he's "arguably the greatest player that's ever kicked a ball".

He's right about one thing, it wouldn't have happened under Fergie because he wouldn't be here in the first place.

Also, these Scousers love to talk about how we're still banging on about Fergie and we have to move past it and yet they're always the one that bring him up!

NOBODY WANTED HIM GRAEME.

NOBODY WANTED HIM

fecking so sick of these professional pundits saying this same old bollocks. We would not have stopped him leaving if there had been an offer.

Did he expect Ten Hag to say 'He's for sale, we don't want him'?

What a bellend. Take your Scouse digs and stuff them up your fecking bollocks. Twat.

Ronaldo the footballer is one of the best I've ever seen. Ronaldo the person, well he is an egotistical twit.

That is now 2 of my all time favourites I've had to seperate like that this year. CM Punk the wrestler, one of the best I've ever seen. Phil Brooks the person, also an egotistical twit.

Let's surround you for 20 years with people who coddle you, cater to you, and stroke your ego, and then see how capable you are of making sound decisions that rely on you being able to properly judge public and professional perception of you.

That sort of environment would ruin the best of us.
I guess.... but I thought Mendes was at least savvy? That he wouldn't allow him this? Maybe I'm wrong, football people seem to live in another world

I don't disagree with everything you have said, the last part is probably true. But I can't stand these kinds of generalizations, he's a functioning adult human, it's an insane conjecture that he could spend 20 years in an industry and not know how it works.

I'm not saying he doesn't know how football works, the job hes had for 20 years like uoi say, I'm saying he doesn't know how contract law works, I'm sure you're an expert in your field but I'd probably guess you wouldn't know the finer points of your employment contract and that if you had enough money to hire experts to know things you didn't care for much, you wouldn't learn about those things you didn't care for either.

It may be a generalisation (is everything on a forum designed for debate full of generalisations anyway?) But it's a highly probable one.

The whole thing is so damn sad. I still can't get my head around why he did the interview.
Even if he came out of this with some compensation and free to join whichever team, how does he think doing this is going to look to any potential suitor? He's pretty much admitted that he wants a manager to cater to him in all respects never mind if it hurts the team and ultimately the club. Therefore, how can he expect anyone to want him based on that alone? It's so crazy.
He’s a terminal bellend. After this he will probably start his own league of fanbois and yes men, who let him score 1000 goals a game, and present him with the CR7 Ballon dor each year. The sad thing is that there’s probably enough saddos to populate his new competition with teams, players and managers to cater to his fantasy. He will probably also persuade one of them to impersonate Messi and score own goals/trip up a lot/generally look crap.

Well i said in my post I don't agree with it. If I was ETH I would be fuming. If I was the owners I would be looking to screw him. I also said that if I put myself in Ronaldos shoes, you can see why he may be upset. With him being a big ego and given the accomplishments he has had, I would be annoyed if at City I don't come on when we losing and at Spurs I get offered 3 mins. Its a bit contradictory. All in all though, given I am a fan of the club, I want to see Ronaldo gone and I firmly support ETH. One thing that I have been taught in life though, is when you are debating something with two sides there are two languages being spoken and to really understand the situation, you need to listen and put yourself in the oppositions shoes. ETH has not had his say, but one for sure, Ronaldo should not be airing his dirty laundry out there just because he is upset he is not playing. The point of my post is I was expecting something so much deeper especially the way Piers marketed it. It is bad to come out and show disrespect to your club and manager but you can also understand as a fellow employee in another industry and company, frustration with a new manager.
This I dont get at all. The two games have nothing to do with each other. So he was disrespected by not getting put on the pitch to be thrashed at City? How is that disrespect? We might have even been hammered by 8 or 9 goals if he came on. Martial came on and we got 3 goals which kind of proved Ten Haag got the subs right. The Tottenham game I can understand from his point he was disrespected. But what has one game got to do with the other? Just That Ten Haag said he was respecting him and then at Tottenham he clearly wasnt? Is that it? Saying Ten Haag was lying? Or was it that he should have played at City? Which is it?
Plus there was no mention of getting games after walking off at Tottenham and being made Captain etc. So he's been disrespected sometimes and sometimes not? Im confused. As far as I can tell the only time he was possibly disrespected was at Tottenham. Is that all?

With CM punk it was easier to see. Always so full of himself on podcasts.

Also, there are like a few dozen workers better than CM Punk but I won't deny he used to be quite incredible before he turned into a whine baby

Take note of all the pundits criticising Ten Hag over this, they are the ones never worth listening to again. It was probably obvious already with most of them, but this seals it.

My absolute favourite though right now is Graeme Souness and his imaginary scenarios discussed as fact.

I am absolutely shocked how clueless some of these ex pros are.

They gave played the game, managed as well.

Surely, they know you need an offer to get rid of someone. Another club has to be willing to sign him.

Such prats.

He’s simply trying to cope with the fact that he’s no longer as good as he once was now. In fact, he’s probably trying to cope with the fact that at the top level, he’s not even good anymore. This interview probably helped him do that, and even better for him, might have given him a psychological boost for the World Cup. Maybe being showered with words of praise and being reminded of his glories by Morgan as if he’s Jesus Christ himself rather than a 37 year old man who is no longer good at football was what he felt he needed to get into a positive state of mind for the World Cup after how bad he’s been this season. It definitely felt that way, because this interview was nothing more than a “Ronaldo good, everyone else bad” show.

The thing I’m most confused by though, is why his fans on Twitter feel the need to defend him as if he’s the Messiah himself. He is not a football club that we build deep emotional attachment; he is simply a fellow human being who realistically will never know who these people who defend him are. So, what’s the point of these people spending hours upon hours of their lives defending him even after he’s done something very wrong? It feels like a very sad existence.

Souness is easily the most unlikeable pundit out there for me. Conjures up hypothetical scenarios and conversations that he believes have happened and runs with them as fact, just to suit his agenda. He's essentially making up lies and saying 'let's all pretend this has happened exactly as I've made up in my head'.

I still fail to understand this question, his hesitation and his answer.
Think the question was about why he is famous or why he is most talked about in media or something of that sort that Pierce blurted out to massage Ronaldo's ego.
Then the bellend mixed it up with Rooney criticism and introduced words like jealousy to bait Ronaldo in talking more shit about Rooney and Ronaldo did.

Lassana Diarra is the more recent example that I can remember. He was unable to play until CAS gave its ruling because logically Lokomotive despite being the one dismissing for breach of contract never gave up the registration and FIFA do not unregister players that are in the middle of a litigation. Diarra lost and was given a 15 months ban which was already covered.
Good to know I don't remember that one.

Not a big deal.

We already separate Giggs the player from Giggs the person
Scholes the player from Scholes the nail biter and shit pundit
Rio the player from Rio "get out of Ronaldo's ass" pundit

Keano the player...... naa he has always been like this

Actually agree with him 100%. If Ronaldo wasn’t first choice he should have been moved on in the summer.

This interview is going to age horribly.
The amount of self-loving and ego has never been broadcast before, and won't again. He makes Trump look humble and well adjusted.

Only if we had an agreement that he wouldn't sue the club for compensation. The club has no reason to rely on the other side's good faith.

Hmm, I think this is wrong. The club cannot terminate his contract, not pay him and try and hold his registration. That would be manifestly unfair.

That said, I’m more than happy to be proved incorrect on this. I have no sympathy for Ronaldo here, so if the rules allow us to do something to mess him around and make it easier for the club, I’m all for it!

I still can't get over how he called Rooney one of the "Rats". I am trying to give him benefit of the doubt with maybe he meant something else, but I can't think of any other reason.

I'll ask that question again. How? The club can't move on a player if there isn't a suitor and the player doesn't agree to join him.

Fergie moved big names a year or 2 before the football world knew they were in decline. Ronaldo would have been gone. Unfortunately the media world don't seem to know how bad Ronaldo's decline is. They think it's just tactics.

What the hell is the point of this latest "statement"?

"Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview.
We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion"

Yeah, outrageous. Totally disrespectful.

The reality is there is nothing to say yet but the media will want them to react to a massive bellend taking a shite on their doorstep.. So that'll suffice

The clubs that can afford him don’t need him. The ones that want to take a chance on him can’t afford him.

Ronaldo’s ego isn’t going to allow him to take a lower wage

agreed which is honestly why i don't understand the power play outside of the fact that he is desperate to get out of his contract

Depends on the individual. We've seen many sporting icons come out as stable and down to earth too.

What took him to the top will also tear him down.

Facsinating stuff and a real look into his psyche.

Obviously we've all heard about it and seen glimpses, but most of it is second hand stories. This interview just confirms alot of things about his mentality.

He really is finding it tough to cope not being at the top anymore.

You'd at least hope for his sake that he burned his bridges for good cause. As in his agent has found him a decent CL club to join.

If you want an example, that's exactly what Lokomotive did with Lassana Diarra and they won. Lokomotive didn't give up the registration until the case was resolved with the approval of FIFA.
