It’s a very good idea to publicly broadcast to other teams that you won’t accept anything less than a starting role, will not respect any manager who doesn’t indulge you and will go on TV to complain about it midseason when you aren’t playing well. This is certain to increase the many many clubs interest in him.
That’s what I thought. What the feck with the self-destruct?

Can we all just agree that resigning him was a terrible idea. He cost Ole his job (which was a positive) but he was never in a million years going to fit into an ETH team. And being shoved on the bench week in week out was only ever going to end this way. The supersub fantasies were just unhinged.

I doubt any serious team will want him after this. He's done.

Club panicked about him potentially going to City and probably that's why they rushed to sign him.

I'm not sure he cost Ole his job, think that results in Ole's last few months were coming for some time, signs were there. Maybe he accelerated Ole's sacking, just that.

He had no takers in the summer and the Glazers kept him around so Ronaldo has gone and got himself sacked..
Further cementing his place as a club legend.. What a man-child..

He's an asshole.. but this has worked out brilliantly for us.. Not seeing him on the pitch is a huge win.

There’s a load of things but the most important factor for the Glazers is that they get to save on his wages.

It actually changes nothing for the Glazer or any other shareholder. Ronaldo's wage has been budgeted 18 months ago and dividends aren't based on whether the club made extra cash or not. The only benefit here is for the club and the Football side of the club, they potentially have 16 unallocated millions.

don’t see what United achieve by sacking Ronaldo. It’s Ronaldo who gets what he wants in that situation. He pretty much mentioned that he played his last game at United.

After the respect comments, ETH should keep him at the club. Keep him in the reserves and let him publicly apologise or stay there till the end of the season.

that’s the worst outcome for Ronaldo and that’s what we should give him.
Maybe he does but that’s a by product of us getting what we want… save a ton of wages, lose his impact on dressing room (and maybe nudge the Glazers closer to us getting a replacement?)

When it’d be pointless was if we didn’t do anything purely because he might benefit… that would be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

We sing former players songs in the away end. I fuking hope and pray this fool is never sang about again.

Lets hope this was his game plan and he walks no fuss and the board use his saved wages to back ETH with a shiny new Gakpo in January. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to get back into the CL while he is Siuing camels in Saudi Arabia.

We played so badly under Ole after he arrived. In retrospect (and for many of us at the time) the Juve analysis was correct - he was the solution to the problem he causes. Except he stopped even being this. I do remember Carrick dropping him and we won a couple of games.

I dont think he had a problem with coming on vs Spurs. What was disrespectful was giving him the VdB treatment, and just putting him on for 3 mins to waste time. Obviously, this is up for interpretation, but I think doing this to someone like Ronaldo or Messi is not right. Any other player, its fine. Yes they are not the same player they once were, but you have to honor their legacy in the game.

I think the only reason ETH kept Ronaldo was because he knew the board did not have funds for another CF. So he did the practical thing, and what was best for the club. The best scenario would have been if Ronaldo was told to leave in summer, because I have zero doubt he would have wasted 6 months of his very last days of football, if he knew ETH considered him a sub player. Dunno if other clubs were interested, but surely a solution would have been found, if they really wanted.

I also think this Tottenham incident was just the tipping point, and that things were boiling between ETH and Ronaldo for quite some time. Sad to see it come to this, but backing ETH is the correct decision from the club. Simply a case of players and club's interests not aligning. Not the first or last time this has happened. Remember something similar happening to Berbatov/SAF in their last season(obviously a very different case).

The other side to this argument is that by this point Ronaldo was starting to get match fit and the manager was building squad unity. After the thrashing at City this was a big win and he was putting Ronaldo on to see out the game he a part of the team spirit and celebrate with them at the end.

you cant see why coming out and doing in interview in which you say you don't respect the current manager might be a problem? especially when your being payed 500k by the club pw to act like a professional. that stuff is the sort of thing you say when you are no longer at the club not a couple of months into a season.

i honestly cant believe the number of people that want brush over the comment on Eth and the club disrespecting him as not too bad. i mean harry maguire gets abused to no end for playing for being crap yet ronaldo can come out and slander the manager, club and his disrespect his team mates and people want to make excuses for him.

if the clubs standards and expectations on behavior mirror the section of our fan base who want to excuse this interview as not so bad then its no wonder the club has slipped to where it is today
Well i said in my post I don't agree with it. If I was ETH I would be fuming. If I was the owners I would be looking to screw him. I also said that if I put myself in Ronaldos shoes, you can see why he may be upset. With him being a big ego and given the accomplishments he has had, I would be annoyed if at City I don't come on when we losing and at Spurs I get offered 3 mins. Its a bit contradictory. All in all though, given I am a fan of the club, I want to see Ronaldo gone and I firmly support ETH. One thing that I have been taught in life though, is when you are debating something with two sides there are two languages being spoken and to really understand the situation, you need to listen and put yourself in the oppositions shoes. ETH has not had his say, but one for sure, Ronaldo should not be airing his dirty laundry out there just because he is upset he is not playing. The point of my post is I was expecting something so much deeper especially the way Piers marketed it. It is bad to come out and show disrespect to your club and manager but you can also understand as a fellow employee in another industry and company, frustration with a new manager.

Would be very funny. Have a feeling he’ll be at Chelsea or Arsenal though..

As much as I'd love to see that happen, I can't see any team that is looking to actually be competitive want to take on a quickly deteriorating, 37 year old with an ego the size of a planet. Unless he's the focal point of everything the team does, he'll have a public meltdown and try and drag everyone down around him.

The most deliciously ironic thing about this fiasco is that Ronaldo probably thought this would get him moved on to another top-flight club, but only teams looking to exploit his brand and commercial draw are going to be interested due to the fact that he's been a shadow of himself on the pitch and an absolute bellend off it.

I honestly hope he has a cracking W.C. and we get a sniff from clubs thinking he still has something left in the tank. It'll be a riot watching him burn a serious club to the ground when he reverts back to the level he's actually at these days and he isn't a nailed-on starter every match.

There is absolutely zero chance he goes to Arsenal. Arteta took great pains to remove Aubameyang, he's not going to bring in an even older, even more expensive, even more toxic striker to feck things up.

And the only reason Chelsea might go for him is their owner seems a total moron.

Not much of a statement...

"Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.
The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.
Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans"
not much of a "statement", is it?

Bit of a broken record with this.

Anything United do you want more!

I was confused at first but presumably he was asking whether he had more pounds in the bank or more instagram followers?

I meant that the question is first dumb and that there is only one decent answer which is the one that Ronaldo didn't pick. He picked the vanity option which is largely made of bots.

He isn’t forced to accept it. He (or his legal team) can say that United are in breach by terminating and sue for his losses. In the meantime, he can sign for another club (with his wages partly mitigating his alleged loss).
No he can't. Go back to Bosman. When he sued he never played football again.

The whole thing is so damn sad. I still can't get my head around why he did the interview.
Even if he came out of this with some compensation and free to join whichever team, how does he think doing this is going to look to any potential suitor? He's pretty much admitted that he wants a manager to cater to him in all respects never mind if it hurts the team and ultimately the club. Therefore, how can he expect anyone to want him based on that alone? It's so crazy.

Lassana Diarra is the more recent example that I can remember. He was unable to play until CAS gave its ruling because logically Lokomotive despite being the one dismissing the player for breach of contract never gave up the registration and FIFA do not unregister players that are in the middle of a litigation. Diarra lost and was given a 15 months ban which was already covered.

Let's surround you for 20 years with people who coddle you, cater to you, and stroke your ego, and then see how capable you are of making sound decisions that rely on you being able to properly judge public and professional perception of you.

That sort of environment would ruin the best of us.

If Ronaldo didn’t have shit loads of cash he wouldn’t give a feck about Instagram followers.

Souness believes he should be treated differently because he's "arguably the greatest player that's ever kicked a ball".
