It is beyond belief to me that there are people taking seriously Ronaldo's accusation that Ten Hag "disrespected" him by committing the cardinal sin of asking him to play three whole minutes of football for the club that pays him HALF A FECKING MILLION POUNDS every single week.
The argument I see made is that it was two-faced for Ten Hag to say that he "didn't substitute Ronaldo on during the City match out of respect for his career", only to (attempt to) substitute him on against Spurs. Even putting aside the fact that these were entirely different contexts, this argument fails to consider that Ten Hag is most likely giving the press this (in fairness, pretty ridiculous) excuse in order to stroke Ronaldo's galaxy-size ego.
It's patently obvious to me that Ten Hag could have appeased Ronaldo would have been to make him a guaranteed starter. Based on performances this season he has as much right to be demanding that as Harry Maguire, but in his head simply being Cristiano Ronaldo is enough to merit it.
Ronaldo has the contemptible mindset that his talent, status, fame, and wealth entitle him to unquestioning adulation. Giving him anything less than exactly as he demands is perceived as an insult. When I was a kid, he was the player who got me into football. As an adult, I can barely express how low I regard him.
