Cristiano Ronaldo - Much Ado About Al Nassr

Okay, he's not good enough anymore but he's not playing for us. All I see is an unhealthy amount of hate for the best player that ever played for us.
Best player that ever played for us is a stretch, I’d rank Cantona above him quite easily. Even the likes of Giggs I would rather have in the team over him as he offers more to overall team effort than an individual does. Although during his first stint at the club he was more of a team player due to Fergie’s influence on the squad. Once he left he started becoming a one man band and other players sacrificed their game to please Ronaldo and to get game time. Once Ronaldo left Madrid for example, Benzema had one of the best seasons of his career.

Didi Hamman, Lisa Fallon and Shay Given have opinions about things they have never experienced themselves. Whoosh.

Eh? They’re professional footballers. Every pro has personal experience of feeling like they’ve let themselves and their team mates down. That’s the nature of sport. Shay Given, as a goalkeeper, will be more familiar with this than most. Goalkeeper howlers are the most excruciating things in football, always get much more scrutiny than a striker missing chances. I’ve never once seen a goalkeeper burst into tears, no matter how horrendous the mistake. Imagine if Onana had started wailing after letting in that very soft CL goal. What would people say about his mental strength?!

Karius burst into tears in the CL final

Wish any of our players would show half the passion Ronaldo did after missing that penalty. What a collosus. The testicular fortitude to then walk up and score the next penalty. GOAT.

It was a moment which encapsulated everything that Ronaldo and his career has been about, him.

He wasn't even playing badly yesterday, the issue is rather that this is his level and he's not good enough anymore. That together with the fact that the whole team seems to want to make it the Ronaldo show is gonna be a problem for them.

Ronaldo fanboys please don’t use Pepe as excuse for Ronaldo, there is no comparison.

Pepe has been benched, subbed and it was never a problem, although he is a cnut on the pitch, he is humble enough to recognize he is old and not what he used to be. There’s no ego or narcissism there.

Apart from the missed chances, a big problem is that Ronaldo doesn’t press or defend that much, also he is constantly offside,

A lot of Portuguese still worship him but a lot are starting to get fed up with him.

I am Portuguese but I never liked his persona, he is no doubt our best player ever but he such a cheesy egomaniac. To me the cult around him is insane but to each their own.

And herein lies the problem. They are worse with him in the team and always look much better late in their games when they bring on younger, quicker and more dynamic players. Doesn't matter if he still scores goals. If the team would score more without him he should be gone. Bet the younger players are breathing a sigh of relief that this should be his last tournament.

If Portugal wins the EC it will be the biggest carry job in EC history.

He was desperate to score. Painfully desperate at times.

The theatrics have always been there and always will be - it's part of who he is.

Crying like a blubbering baby halfway through ET is a bit pathetic but the emotions just got to him. He carries the weight of Portugal (although ironically they'd probably play better without him).

Made some half decent runs yesterday - just couldn't get on the end of any crosses. Poor show from Portugal and they needed to change formation and style in the 2nd half really. Martinez is just too afraid to hook Ronaldo off.

Ronaldo is all people talk about - but Portugal have some talent in that squad. Vitinha is a great midfielder, the lad at LB is superb. We know all about the likes of Silva, Fernandes and Jota. Ronaldo just engulfs everything to be about him - draining the life out of enjoying Portugal

He had absolute manic energy all night, to an unhealthy and presumably detrimental degree.

Reminded me of a match when he has with us (the first time). Can't remember who it was against but he missed chance after chance, hit the post etc. When he did finally score he counted out the misses on his fingers and just screamed at the heavens.

He's always had that wild desperation to score but it was ramped up to 1000 last night.

Why on earth was he crying like that? Always been a massive weirdo.

Because he missed a goal that would have given him a personal record. That's it. That's the entire story. He doesn't care about Portugal other than them being a vehicle to deliver him records. He thought he'd missed his chance and cried about it.

Tbf he might have lost them the game there.

Versus Liverpool in '08 I think

Nothing new to me.
He's way passed his prime for years now and no one has the courage to sit him on the bench.

Can't see it confirmed, but did BBC actually put Misstiano Penaldo on the analysis video after the game?
