Cristiano Ronaldo’s guaranteed football salary at Al Nassr will be close to $90m per year. #Ronaldo Commercial/sponsorship deals (already approved by Cristiano’s camp) will be included in the agreement to bring total salary close to $200m.

Saudis will use Ronaldo for promotion and to start their campaign to get World Cup.

If he wanted to play a decent standard of football and get the adoration and publicity, why not go to MLS, instead he has taken mega money to go to a league nobody will see.
 
Saudi League is ranked around 27th in terms of competitiveness and the level apparently.

Championship, Mexican League, Ukranian, Croatian, Cyprus top league is all ahead of it.

Even if Ronaldo got relegated and played in the Championship, or went to Mexico the league is more competitive.

The question is any goal he scored even deemed as a stat people can throw around? or is he effectively retired and anything he does in Saudi not really considered now? I know huge Ronnie fans will use those stats as gospel.

His agent's not a genius, Saudi just wants his image rights to promote Saudi in tourism and get people to think the Saudi league is something it's not.

They're paying effectively half his salary to manage his image rights, they want to paste him everywhere and use his name.

You can pay big money on TV and try and get Aramcos name out there, how many people really care? Or you can pay Ronaldo $90m a year in image rights and use his face wherever you want and try and raise the profile of the country for Tourism and sectors they want to promote.
 
This guy has completely killed his reputation, first he help prop up a right wing TV channel in talk TV and help boost the status of a guy that gave the green light to hack the phones of murder victim families in piers Morgan, now I can see him help assist a country with hideous record of war crimes and human rights abuse win their world cup bid in Saudi, class act..

All agents get bonuses, I'm not sure if he did or not. Either way they don't care if Ronaldo can even kick a ball at this point.

If he had buckled down he could have potentially won the EL with us this season and then left on the back of winning something he’d never won before.

I can’t wait to see how Piers Morgan spins this. We aren’t ambitious enough for him, but this club is?

They probably want to promote the Saudi league, and get it a retirement home for old legends just like the MLS is.

This is akin to Beckham going to LA Galaxy in my books.
 
Hope this is the end of the Ronaldo Era in our National team. No way he should be called up playing in the Saudi league

Narcissists suffer from delusions of grandeur, he has a hard time dealing with his decline. He gambled on a good WC and he was dropped to the bench. No club wants him.

Piers doesn't care, he will dick ride anyone for fame, because he's a 50 year old man with no discernible talents he needs to try to get interviews with people but even as an interviewer or chat show host he's awful.

Ronaldo is yesterdays news to him, he wants someone else to talk to now. He got his big media blow out, I doubt there'll be any more big defences of him, and the WC made piers look more like a moron too.

The funniest bit about all this is had he accepted he was finished at the highest level and done this move in the summer the majority of this forum and footballing planet would still think he’s a top player who valiantly scored goals in a shit team last season rather than the toxic noose around its neck that he was. By staying he’s showed everyone how finished he is and the negative impact having a narcissist, past-it number 9 who can’t hold the ball up, run channels, sprint in behind or link play that insists he play every minute, holds meetings behind the managers back, refuses to press and fecks off to Portugal faking injury when dropped actually has on a squad. Who knew that may have been an issue? Enjoy those high standards over in Saudi Arabia Ronnie!

It's a really beautiful country TBF. It's just some of the laws and obviously from a western country how we judge other cultures is very ethnocentric.

They can easily have Ronnie and his family out in the desert with really luxury tents stargazing, and have it posted to his Instagram and promote tourism, or doing the same with cultural parts of Saudi.

They have the rights over his image at this point, they'll use him and Newcastle to promote as much as possible, they also have Messi as a tourism ambassador.

I doubt you can regret taking £177m a year though, if I was done at work and I had lost all competency at my job and someone offered me 7x my weekly salary for 2 years I wouldn't say no.

I think at some point though money becomes irrelevant to some extent. He’s never going to be short and nor will his family.
 
It’s bizarre how people are ignoring the context of the move! “He is 38! Any of you would take the money!!”

He could have taken the money at any time, but he publicly burned bridges with a fanbase who loved him, blindly gambled on any decent European club wanting him, had an awful World Cup where his antics took away from the preparation of the team, before accepting the offer that was always on the table, going against everything he had previously said.

It’s nothing to do with where he went and it’s nothing to do with the money. It’s his arrogant, petulant behavior and eventual comedown, going against his own word in the process, that is the sad part.

If he had stayed at United another 5 months and waved goodbye to the fans, this offer would still have been on the table.

He gambled and got embarrassed.

I could get it if he has only been earning less than 100k all his playing career but the difference is he has already made 100's of millions, it's no different to Beckham selling out his supposed support of the gay community by taking some blood money from qatar whilst already living like a king.

One thing for sure, ten hag has come out of this with an even more credible reputation, to think ronaldo was storming down the touchline during a match because he thought he was too good to be subbed on in the last few minutes of a game and now a month later he is playing in the obscure Saudi league with a bunch league 1 level quality set of players
