Cristiano Ronaldo - Much Ado About Al Nassr

On paper nobody needs more than that, but most humans are greedy, once they taste big money they want more and more.

You are underestimating how greedy can humans be.

If only everybody would think as you, there wouldn't be corrupt politicians...why would a politician take bribes, if they are already wealthy.

I have no problem whatsoever understanding that people are greedy. I'm just pointing out that not everyone is, that there is a choice involved and that being greedy isn't the same thing as needing the money.

Hahaha what a fall from grace. He sabotaged everything for the sake of his ego just to end up playing for an oil team no one gives a shit about. He already had enough money to last 10 life times, so whatever he's being paid is irrelevant and doesn't mask the fact no decent European club wanted the prat.

It was the twin demands of huge wages and wanting to start constantly that made Ronaldo an absolute non-event for any european club unless it was purely a rich owner wanting some publicity.

18 moths ago he was obviously trying to get out of Juventus, and nobody wanted him until the end of the window when City accepted they couldn't get Kane so were going to take Ronaldo as a stop-gap. We then decided we couldn't let him go to City and jumped in as well.

6 months ago he was obviously trying to get out of Man Utd, and the only club that showed any real interest was Chelsea. A club that had just been taken over and had an owner who wanted to make a statement signing. Even then the manager said he didn't want him, so Chelsea ended their interest. Multiple clubs even publicly said that they didn't want him.

As such he then had three choices:

1) Accept that he won't get what he wants at the top level anymore, so keep his head down and do his best until his contract ends then go 'retire' to huge money in the middle east. Or of course, encourage his new team to actually buy him from Utd with their near unlimited riches.

2) Accept that if he wants to continue playing at the top level he'll have to drop his wages and be more of a squad player. There's no doubt he would have had teams falling over themselves to sign him in that case.

3) Throw his toys out of the pram and force Utd to rip up his contract.

If he'd chosen either of the first two it would have been mostly respected. But he chose the third, and in doing so he's made himself an absolute laughing stock in the footballing world. He ultimately screwed himself, but in doing so also screwed Utd by trying to drag their name in the mud and also screwed us out of what could easily have been a good transfer fee. All because his ego couldn't accept that the issues he was having were of his own making.

I don't get that take. Sure he hoped for a Champions League club, but he couldn't get one in August, but after the season he's had so far and a shite world cup, reality finally seems to have sunk in for him, painful as that must have been.

Bit of a comedown maybe, but he's 38 and if he's really getting $173m a year, or even half that, with zero income tax, he's laughing all the way to the bank.

I think the embarrassing bit is that he could be playing for one of the most high profile clubs in the world, facing a slightly reduced but still potentially huge role against Liverpool, Arsenal, City & Barcelona in the next 2 months…. But he instead decided to throw the entire club under the bus for its apparent “standards” and ambition, only to end up looking like an idiot going to a retirement league in the middle of the season just to ensure he won’t be dropped, when he could’ve just waited it out until May and not looked like a massive whingey hypocrite.

I think it’s that… probably

He's finished at top level though, there's not much left to do with his time as a footballer, he's 37 not 32. It's expected that a player of his age ends up in some lower level league for one last paycheck.

There is nothing wrong with playing for the money at his age. The reasons people are laughing at him:

1. He tried all summer to leave United and whored himself to ucl clubs only to get. rejected left, right and centre. Than he did an interview which was effectively designed to enable him to leave United probably thinking that big clubs would line up to sign him up for free after a brilliant wc. Neither materialised. Let's face it, he could have completed the season and gracefully moved to Saudi or wherever.

2. He has an ego that can cause an eclipse. He always claimed he wouldn't play in such clubs for the money, yet that is exactly what he has had to do because it was the only option.

The other thing is you simply can't bring Messi into this. It is apples and oranges.

This proves he will always be greater than Messi who continues to live the easy life in Paris. CR7 has sacrificed his United career and legacy to help bring down the Glazers and now he's moving to Asia to help grow the game there. Thousands of fans will get to experience a SIU live for the first time. In future, kids will dream of lifting the Roshn Saudi League just like they do the EPL and La Liga. It's an incredibly selfless move and purely because he wants to help the world of football, not just Europe. Is this needed?

How will Keane,Souness & Rio spin this now?

Also all his mates & disciples who refused to say anything critical and pointed the finger at ETH.

If the World Cup wasn’t enough evidence to vindicate ETH then this surely is.

We were just meant to play him 90mins every week in the hope he can perform.
"still the best finisher in the squad". According to some.

Just going to leave this here but even his striker movement was also gash. Unduly camping in the middle of a congested 6 yard box. Why even Bruno and eriksen weren't good enough service for his highness. Would rather drift offside than find pockets anywhere else.

Ronaldo fanboys on the caf will soon be telling us how good the Saudi league is
There's one of them @shamans who has already made a "Saudi League" thread and telling everyone how the league "isn't as bad as it seems" So yeah, the only thing more delicious than watching how his career is ending is watching his fanboys.

It'll be interesting to see if they hunt for streams online and come on here posting their SUIIII bollocks whenever he scores a tap in against a team of plumbers and carpenters

If it wasn't for the way Ronaldo has behaved in the last few months, it would actually be quite a sad ending. The fact he couldn't convince even a half decent European club to take a chance on him after going out of his way to break his contract speaks volumes.

Starting to think he truly believed we were refusing then hiding offers from him. He actually believed he was going to a big club and we were stopping it.

:devil::devil::devil:

Al-Nassr fans call their club "The International" due to the fact that they were the first Asian club,/Saudi club to play in the FIFA Club World Cup in it's inaugural year in 2000,

They were great in the 90s, rivaling Al-Hilal, but fall of in the 00s, I remember during my Uni time I had loads of friends from Saudi, 1 or 2 Saudis but mostly are foreigners who were born and grew up there, they would tell me about their legend, Majid Abdullah who's the GOAT in Saudi Arabia, he played his entire club career for Al-Nassr.

Al-Hilal is the biggest club in SA, and Al-Nassr is quite popular and has a very solid fan base.

I can’t believe some are having a go at him. He is fecking 38 year old. His age mates are in tv doing punditry. He would be insane to stun down that kind of money.

Sad way to end a glorious career, but he did it to himself with his ridiculous demands. No dressing room can accommodate that ego

To be fair it’s rightly so after his Piers interview. He shat on the club like he was better than us. Demanded CL football. The best he could get was Saudi. I don’t think he’s even gone for the money. I think it was his only option. Probably wanted another boost to his ego by being by far the highest paid sportsman on the planet.

No way... Long gone are the days that a player wouldn't know about a club interested in signing them. If there were such clubs, they would have made contact with Mendes. On the contrary, Mendes was the one flirting around (as reported multiple times by reliable journos) but was unable to find a club for him.

I don't think many people give a damn about him taking the money. The issue, at least for me, was the whole circus he created and his blatant lies that there are millions of clubs in ours and other galaxies that would love to sign him. These mid-season antics are what turned many fans against him.

Ronaldo is hands down the goat. He took the hardest roads by joining Al Nassr with the goal to establish them as the CWC champion. Messi took the easy path with world class teammates (Mbappe, Neymar, etc) while Ronaldo put the whole Al Nassr and Arabian Peninsula on his back. He sacrificed his name to force Glazer sell the club because he's the hero United deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll jeer him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. Cristiano Ronaldo.

People are having a go at him not necessarily for the decision to go to Saudi Arabia itself as it's obvious he can no longer contribute much at the very top level but more because of the fact that he was completely oblivious to that fact and the way he handled the whole situation. Just a few weeks ago he was speaking how he belongs in the CL and United are basically below his level, how ETH doesn't respect him and how he will retire with "dignity" at top level. His arrogance and a complete inability to accept his age is the reason for all that, not the decision to take the insane amount of money.

It's hilarious. Nothing wrong with quietly taking a paycheck in a lower league, though surely he could do better than Saudi, but to have ended up there after all that PR hype. He's halfway to ruining his legacy and being remembered as a joke.

Meanwhile his arch nemesis Messi kept his mouth shut and won the World Cup.

Don't underestimate their ability to think irrationally through this most delusional episode. It looks like he actually thought someone or something was keeping him from going to a CL club. Not only him, Keane, Ferdinand and co also thought so as well. It genuinely seems like it never even occurred to them that he had absolutely zero offers.

It has nothing to do with earning some extra money in these hard times.
It's the way he did it.

They’re gonna end up making a musical about that interview.

Nicely written. He would have been 38. No one would have questioned him. Instead he embarrassed himself. Had he stayed loyal to United he would still be loved by all fans.

This guy needs to be banned, just blatant racism. This is equivalent calling out other race (insert race) (insert animal) shaggers.

Is it feck its derogatory but nationality and culture aren't race, listen im Welsh if i got a quid every time i heard a pissed up saxon pull out sheep shagger i could buy out the glazers, then again i suppose i am also white doesn't matter then does it.

It's very much racist. Arab is a race. It was a very derogatory comment. Hope admins take action.
White people never seems to spot racism as they are rarely the target but most often then not culprit.

Had he just gone there quietly at the end of the season no one would have found it weird. However the big song and dance after his interview with Piers, spending all summer wanting a CL club, adds some more context to this
