Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

What guys on twitter or YouTube say, sure - there's probably many who deliriously thought it would be that easy to win the league as to sign a 37-year old Ronaldo, an injury prone Varane and a Sancho who'd never played in the league.

But a man like Ronaldo, with so many people of knowledge at his disposal, shouldn't have gone to United under the presumption, that he'd win the league within two years. That was ludicrous to every individual who'd seen us play. He should've gone out of either love or money or both of the two - maybe with a faint hope of any trophy - but the league? feck me.

Coming here now and complain about lack of ambition is like watching 50 people buying the same ice cream and all spitting it out immediately as it hits their tongue, but you still walk up there and buy that same ice cream. At that point, you are just as much to blame as the fecker handing out the garbage. .

Good post. I think he was under alot of pressure from the club not to go to City and he went against his own thoughts of what was best for him for once.

It's backfired and he wants to cut his losses. I just don't blame him. Its never too late to make the next right decision.

Ronaldo is more of our club than any fan. He gave all he had in his youth and at his age now. Fans need to move on and point fingers elsewhere.
He 'gave' us his youth and one year at 36, his prime was spend elsewhere. So feck it.

We have a player who is reported to have refused to press according to reports and it was easy to decipher that whilst watching the games.

Yes - but stats and the eye test aside (he's shite at pressing by most standards), it can't be as simple as him just "refusing" to press.

I mean, imagine the scene:

Ralf: Er...okay, we're going to do this thing called "pressing". Er...or "gegenpressing"...whatever. The point is: you're going to try to recover possession as quickly as possible when you...er, lose it. Okay? Yes? I'll show you how it works now.

Ronaldo: Oy! Ralf! No! I refuse to do that.

Ralf: Er...okay. That's not good. But okay.

As long as it is not in this league, he can go. Our attacking options will definitely take a hit but that’s better than to keep him against his wishes.

Jesus.

Get a feckin' grip, lad.

No, he isn't. He's a football player. He doesn't give 1% of the feck you or I do about Manchester United.

I'm sure the meeting was mainly about other players and Mendes has just brought it up. Not chance of this transfer happening.
Isn’t Man Utd Sainz supposed to be reliable? I’d certainly keep an eye on this. It’s certainly something I’d be open to. We go on in and swoop Lewa.

Same applied back in 2008 with us and when he was winning with Madrid. The rules of successful football haven't suddenly changed.

Why do you think Rooney and Tevez(and others) worked so hard?

If back then pressing wasn't all that important why were they not lazy off the ball like Ronaldo? Why instead were they all running their arses off to compensate for him?

His work off the ball has always been poor and it was as important to compensate for it back then as it is now.

Football hasn't changed to the degree where off the ball laziness has gone from irrelevant in 2008 to now critical.

I also don't get this idea he refused to press. He's 37. He might have refused but its hardly down to laziness now. He's just not superman. If you press like a 24 year old at his age he'll have nothing left for you on the ball.

Every club and every manager in the world knows before they sign Ronaldo in his late thirties you won't be getting a guy grafting hard off the ball.

It's not a case of him refusing. It's just not physically possible.
Football did change in the EPL when managers like Pochettino arrived and coached a high pressing style. Rooney and Tevez did press but it was in isolation rather than as a unit.

The difference is that in 2008, we didn't maintain a compact high block without the ball. Guardiola at Barca did that and controlled the game with and without the ball by utilising pressing traps and the counter press via the 6 second rule. We never did that imo and would retreat upon losing the possession with the exception of a few players. That's not pressing high in coordination with the collective.

Laporta and Mendes met today to talk about several players including Ronaldo. Not exactly massive news.

Imagine that they went for Ronaldo rather than Lewandowski?

Are they trying to scare Madrid into buying him back? It won't work like it did with us.

Will Real panic and sign him the way we did when he was about to join City?

clever girl.

doing the same shit to madrid as he did to us.

Is there nothing else noteworthy happening in football? Is it such a slow day for news?
There is absolutely no way Ronaldo joins Barcelona.
A key component of his brand is that he has only ever played for the historical 'big' clubs instead of the oil clubs and he was key in turning around the fortunes for 2 of them - United & Madrid - and bringing them back to where they belong.

There is no way he tarnishes his Madrid legacy to play for our eternal rivals. There is no way he gets accepted in a dressing room of Xavi, Busquets, Pique, Alba - all of whom have either publicly criticized Ronaldo or scrapped with him on the field. His brand will actually diminish if Madridistas start hating on him ... no more media support from Papa Flo and most importantly no more rando Madrid fans on social media looking for an excuse to harp about his greatness.

Real Madrid still post Ronaldo's old videos on Insta and FB ... His goals, his celebrations, his trophies ... He literally left us 4 years ago!!!
EDIT: On Saturday, Madrid literally posted his best CL goals.
