Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

The funniest thing about this is that Ronaldo requesting to leave is going to have the opposite effect of what he wanted.

He was beloved at Man Utd and he has shattered his own legacy by moving away. If he thinks this move will help him to edge out Messi as the GOAT then he has it completely backwards. The polls were about 50/50 before this move, and were tilting toward CR7 since he continued producing in the PL and Messi is falling off in the farmers league.

Now, every Man Utd fan will be team Messi. Man Utd are the biggest, most widely-supported club in the world. Every poll from this moment forward will massively skew toward Messi being the GOAT. In his quest to assure his position at the top, he has sabotaged his legacy.

No club will sign his name now. No clubs fans will vote for him as their GOAT.

May as well sign for Barcelona now, so absolutely nobody remembers you fondly or has any affinity for you Ronnie. The Real fans might whistle at you marginally more than they did when you played for them.
I think you are underestimating his 460m followers in social media. His list of fanboy include the likes of Mbappe, Haaland and our very own Garnacho, who wouldn't care where he moves but would still rate him as their GOAT regardless.

None of these reasons resonate with me. For instance, if he were to go to Chelsea, he would still be 38 and the "his presence is disruptive" myth would be dispelled if a top CL team were to buy him.

Shaw could've just said Ronnie wants CL football, full stop, and left it at that.
Let's hope so for their sake because his application off the ball has been shocking for us, and it's also backed up by stats. The quicker he fecks off the better.

I just hate that everything is going to be about Ronaldo now. For a long time, Ten Hag will mostly get questions about Ronaldo instead of how he intends to build the team. It will be Ronaldo this and Ronaldo that.

There’s very little risk in letting him go there. He will cause problems at Chelsea. Nevermind him being ”a goalscorer”: over the last 4 years that’s come at a cost elsewhere for both Juventus and United. United challenging Chelsea for top 4 would be a bonus because, as it stands, your only really challenging Tottenham and Arsenal for top 4. I’d see Ronaldo going to Chelsea as the beginning of the end for Tuchel.
Well in theory he could still score agains us in the league and affects our standing on top 4, isn't it. And before Juventus collapsed and won feck all this season, they still won 5 trophies with him over 3 seasons there. There could be problems in terms of team tactics of course, but essentially he would be replacing Lukaku, who was far bigger problem at Chelsea last season.

I don't know how to tell you... but Ronaldo won a CL with United in 2008 with the same "Pressure per 90" stats. And 4 with Real Madrid. Literally useless stat for a player like him

Gonna miss his cringy PR team the most. "This is for you, Sir Alex" Rashford's PR team got nothing on Cristiano's. Go Red Devils!

Just how Ronaldo likes it.
It's always been the Ronaldo show, always been about him

He's put Utd in the situation where they have to move quickly. I hope he's gone in the next fortnight tbh.

That was 14 years ago and pressing from the front is a necessity for the modern day head coach who aims to play in the opponent's half.

That would be on United’s coach and players in that (hypothetical) game, wouldn’t it? Transfer policy shouldn’t be dictated by other teams. Worrying about what City were doing got you into buying Ronaldo last season. You’ve got to be good enough to move on and do the business with different players, and it might take a couple of years. If I was in charge at United, I’d have him out of the door as soon as possible.

The fact that Toddy Boehly is the only person really interested in Ronaldo says a lot…

Why is it always polemic with Ronaldo?

‘indefinite leave’ Good God!

Why do we always allow this? Ronaldo last year before the City game. Lingard, Cavani....

We're such pushovers. Tell them if they don't show up, you'll be docked wages pro-rata for the days missed.

FFS.

Yep, let’s not forget how Brazil also won the World Cup in 1958 without pressing forwards.

Would be hilarious if he went to Chelsea and it all fell apart for them like it did last season with us.

Probably told him to sort a new club and don’t want him disrupting our pre season preparations.

Well not selling the key player to rival has been a thing for long time. Apparently thats what we going to do though, as been reported we won't let him to go to any PL rivals, even if we are going to sell him.

But what if they are losing Lewandowski and couldn't find any good replacement this summer, and what if Ronaldo willing to lower his wage demand.

I still don't think Nagelsmann would be all that keen on Ronaldo.

But - sure - if the higher-ups for some reason want Ronaldo, and he'd be willing to take a pay cut in order to take a final stab at the CL...or something.

He'd pose a problem to them - just as he would us (or Chelsea): I don't think he sees himself as anything but a default starter.

That's the biggest problem with him: I personally would love to have him as a bench option - but as a player who thinks he's still in his prime (who should start every match if possible), no - absolutely not, he's a huge problem, not any kind of asset.

If will fall apart wherever he goes. It’s not a coincidence that no team he’s played for in the last 5 years have scored 80 league goals. He’s a lead weight.

When that “key player” is 2008 Ronaldo, or present day Salah then fair enough. Present day Ronaldo? Get rid and move on.

Good. We don’t want him anywhere near the pre season if he’s going to be a disruption.
Exactly. This whole thing seems quite coordinated to be honest. I’m not buying that the club had no idea he was leaving - we’ve been briefing against him all summer. The club can’t be seen to want him out though because his fan club might storm Old Trafford. In one day we’ve gone from not for sale he’s at training tomorrow to we prefer to sell him abroad and he’s on indefinite leave.

In the interest of non-tabloid style sensationalism, surely the thread title should read ‘hasn’t turned up for pre-season’, as opposed to ‘didn’t’? Pre-season is ongoing, he is not there yet, but nothing to say that he will not be.

Anyway, hopefully we do a better job of replacing Ronaldo the second time than we did with the first.

Bayern doesn't really need their no.9 to press hard though, Lewandowski doesn't really press much, and BL is less physically demanding than PL. So it should be less of a problems to them as would to us (under ETH) or to Chelsea (under Tuchel), who has high demand on pressing up front.

Point is, Ronaldo has proven last season, he is still a business in CL, and Bayern probably wouldn't want to give up their chance on CL next season, losing Lewandowski would be big for them, and finding good replacement this summer is nearly impossible. Ronaldo could be their perfect one season stop gap solution, if he is willing to lower his wage demand that is.

Really weird way of saying us and Juve, who are not known for their goal scoring in the league. Do you know how many they scored after he left, and the players were free to express themselves?

Maybe it would’ve turned out different if he hadn’t fecked them in the dying days of the window. Let’s see how many they score next season now that they’ve replaced him.

Objectively speaking, he is still our best player last season, isn't he? So relatively speaking, he is still a key player for us, even though we have been pile of shite and he is well past his peak.
