Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Lets be realistic, you're not going put him in the reserves. The guy skipped training for weeks and was straight back in the first team squad.

Best possible outcome (if nobody wants him) is an agreement where you pay him off a % of his remaining contract and he goes on a free.
He’ll spend more time on the bench than not with EtH at the helm. If he’s not performing in his 10/20 min spurts, I can very quickly see him not even starting any games for the season (he will probably start Europa group games and Carabao Cup).

Us paying full amount of wage loaning him out make no sense. Either he stay, or Napoli offer something in return. I’d prefer loan swap move between Ronaldo and Osimhem.

Wasn’t his transfer fee to Napoli dubiously inflated in the first place? Interesting that the Serie A watchers here don’t really rate him, certainly not at EUR100M. The difference between Ronaldo’s and Osimhen’s wages per year is around EUR15M, so the deal will effectively cost us EUR85M if it goes through.

It’s a fecking dream. Yet people on here were moaning about it yesterday. Don’t think CDS are reliable though unfortunately.
People moan about absolutely everything. They moan when sun comes up in the morning.

Yeah it seems it wont go through which is a shame.

He says he wants to play champions league he should reduce his wages to get it. Paying him his crazy salary even reduced by 25% to go play for another team makes me sick to my stomach. We shouldn't indulge him.

We should take a hit just so he's not around anymore.

In any case so sad state of affairs for one of the best players ever. Not that I'm sorry for him but nobody actually wants the guy.

On the football side of things it's a great deal. We get one of the best young strikers in Europe with plenty of time to improve and release a player who doesn't want to be here and could cause problems if he stays.

Yeah it's coming from Ronaldo's agent, they're desperate. But it makes sense for us.

It doesn’t really make sense for us to HAVE to buy a relatively unproven prospect for £100m (again!) regardless of how he performs. He could be shit and we’re stuck in a weird Greizmann situation. Especially as we’re probably hoping to go back in for De Jong (or a De Jong type) next summer too

Change obligation to option, then we'll talk.

Yup

100m is a big fee, but Osimhen is a good investment.
We need a long term no9, Osimhen is a good bet, quick, powerful, tall, aggressive, he's got that nastiness you would like.

The loan with an obligation talk seems to have originated from fanfiction on Twitter and forums. Di Marzio who has been running this story hasn't mentioned anything like that so far.

Seems to be great at pressing too. Is he really 23 years old? :nervous:

Hmmm... Suppose we could or should have an option to buy based on performances.

If he scores X amount of goals, for example. I dunno how viable structuring a deal that way is, but it would be better. We’d obviously also need some kind of protection against him getting injured. ‘Cos what if he crocks out and we’re stuck with having to shell a ton on him?

Think people

Ronaldo is one of the richest athletes in the world, he's looking at career earnings of close to $1bn, I'm sure he's invested well. He's already richer than god.

If it's about sporting legacy is he really going to limit it for money? Surely there comes a point when it really doesn't matter any more.

If he's so fixated on the champions league and doesn't want to be here, he'll find plenty of takers at the right price point, it's just not 500k a week.

True. Never considered him getting injured but I don't see why a deal couldn't be ironed out. Cristiano wants out, and I just can't see him stinking the place out all season...Napoli seem daft enough to take him on - which I suspect would be more to do with business than sporting reasons.

Agreed, sounds way too fair. Napoli would probably want us to pay both their wages and have a loan fee
Maybe because at this time in the window there's no room for fannying around. Plus they're probably giddy at getting a "goat", their Maradona replacement.

Lets hope so, I'd definitely be happy with the swap considering the situation.

Why would we pay most of Ronaldo’s salary?

Surely if nothing materialises by close of window we can terminate by mutual consent + golden handshake and he can then go somewhere on a free as they can be signed anytime?

Only issue with that is that we have no replacement?

Too good to be true
That really depends on if United rate him, whether he's the type of forward ETH wants, and how much United think he's worth.

100m is a huge fee, the club can't justify paying it on a player they don't rate that highly just to get Ronaldo out the door.

i get it, but I’m just a bit uncomfortable with how many people are happy to start throwing £100m fees around, or dismissing them as “not our money” and shit… We’re not as healthy financially as we used to be, and we’ve spent all summer laughing at Barca being irresponsible with transder fees. Plus there was even mooted talk of the Glazers selling TV rights a few weeks ago… I think desperation to get rid of Ronaldo is one thing, but there are cleverer ways to spend our money. We can’t afford too many huge money flops. No one can.

This dude may be great (and I’d much rather his profile than a 37yo Ronaldo) but “obligation” to buy isn’t a ’great’ deal. Loads of things could go wrong, and knowing us - will.
