Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Can Memphis play the central striker role?

don’t think Auba would be the worst short term cover for Ronaldo, knows the league, knows how to score, still at 33 more mobile than ronaldo.

Memphis mainly plays as the central striker now he barely plays as a winger.

So we pay him £25m to play at Napoli.

Fvck off.

Who is a bigger idiot, Mendes or a reporter who wrote this? Ronaldo has 1 year left on his contract, and while I can easily believe we agree to terminate it by mutual consent, of course we won’t be paying his salary to help him play elsewhere

He is quite disruptive to his previous club. Poor example to the other players when he was the club captain.

It's looking worryingly possible that Ronaldo goes and we don't replace him.

Which would leave us with 'made of crisps' Martial who will definitely be absent for at least 30% of the season and Rashford who has not played well for 2 years and who isn't even a number 9. There would be so few goals in that forward line that it's hard to see us even getting top 6 with that setup.

I'm still guessing that Ronaldo stays, against everybody's wishes, on the basis that we won't have the time to replace him now without spending money, and I'm convinced that we're not spending another euro this window. I wouldn't be surprised if we're telling Mendes that he'll have to solve that problem for us if he wants us to grant his wish to leave.

We’re going to be stuck with him and it will totally feck things up for us. Glazers probably want him to stay for marketing reasons, team mates and Ten want him gone, Ronaldo himself wants to go, most fans want him gone. If he plays he fecks up chemistry and pressing style from the front and if he’s benched he acts like a cnut.
What a mess, typical of United though , get in a promising manager with great ideas then put the biggest obstacle in the way.

A loan swap makes sense but paying for Ronaldo for go on loan to Napoli would be ludicrous.

If Napoli want him then a loan fee or % of his wages absolutely need to be paid by them unless Osimhen is sent the other way.

Id happily swap loan players and we pay the difference in wages for the season. Not ideal but at least there is a player coming in return.

Whatever the final outcome I think it’s really opened the eyes of the majority of fans to what Ronaldo really is now.

If we do indeed pay his wage whilst out on loan, I think that would pretty much confirm he's a negative influence and everyone at the club can't stand him. No other reason to entertain such an idea

Looking at this sorry state of affairs just reminds me of how many expensive mistakes Woodward was allowed to make over the years and still continue to be in the role. We deserve to feel the sting for the final year if it comes down to it. I must enjoy it did make me laugh when we signed him but it’s obviously gone sour. I’d probably feel good if he was announced as leaving this week.

For all the bashing, the magic moments in the champions league last season were great and his performance vs spurs was a fun game. So it wasn’t all terrible. Just detrimental to the team

Why is Jorge Mendes being mentioned like he’s in charge of transfer operations at Manchester United? This isn’t Wolves. The fecking cheek

You'll be paying him that money either way.

If the manager doesn't want to use him you'll be better off without the distraction.
If Ronaldo wants the move so bad, he should mutually agree to terminate his contract. He’s then free to move to whichever club and they won’t be hamstrung with his wage demands.

If he doesn’t want to help engineer a move, let him rot in the reserves.

We have to hope he goes. He’s so toxic. I’ve shared details with a few posters on here via pms by now of what I have confirmed from being the scenes, and he is shocking for team morale. A real cnut of epic proportions. But what I never anticipated, when I said over and over, that he HAD to go, for the sake of the group otherwise the season would be a write off, I’ve actually been proven wrong on. And that is because ETH has quite clearly asserted his authority, and come out on top.
That doesn’t surprise me, he seems like an absolute wanker. I’m also impressed with how ten Hag has handled it. I think he genuinely had a plan for Ronaldo initially, but the way he has acted has meant ten Hag doesn’t give a feck and wants rid entirely

And that is because ETH has quite clearly asserted his authority, and come out on top. To see Ronaldo reduced to a bit part substitute, is the best possible outcome for the squad to show them that starting spots are earned on merit and nothing else. The togetherness we’ve seen in the last two matches is a testament to this. Brilliant by the manager.

When he has come on, he’s looked a busted flush. Old, slow, off the pace, and frankly completely past it. It must be humbling for him, but if anyone ever needed to be humbled, it was this fecker. Temporary of course. Because he’ll go to Napoli, or another team in the CL but in a lower, slower league, score a few goals, and think he is the greatest player on earth again.

One thing for sure, is that Ronaldo is an all time great player, who once played for us at his peak. But he isn’t a club legend. He’s disrespected the club and it’s fans on both his stays here, desperately agitating for a move, and frankly no one does that to the club I love, and still gets considered a legend.

People will mention Rooney, and yes, I don’t think that was a good look at all when he asked to go to City. But he stayed, he saw the error of his ways, and he gave his all until the end. Mistakes can be forgiven, when there is remorse. You’ll never get remorse from Ronaldo. I really hope he fecks off before the window closes, not least because to spend 500k a week on a 38 year old has been, is a fecking terrible use of resources.

Agree with that and wrote something similar in his thread. Ten Hag used him to stamp the authority in the team and it absolutely worked in his favor because if you can bench Ronaldo no one is safe.

The problem is though, everything is fine when you are winning, but this team is nowhere good enough yet and it will be up and down season. In such scenario, he will be a problem once we hit the bad patch and then it will raise questions or put pressure on ten Hag. I mean if we didn't produce such a good performance against Liverpool all hell would broke loose just 3 games into the season. We need him to leave.

There is no way Ronaldo is staying - he wants out and has since been benched by Elanga. It would be a colossal failure by Mendes if he can’t find him a move and I just don’t see how one of the most powerful agents in football doesn’t get him somewhere.

He's desperate to leave, I expect Mendes will find a way to make it happen

This sort of deal totally winds me up. Napoli wants him? Get them to pay up. Can't pay it all? At least offer to pay half of it. Even then, we might not even accept to go halves because we gain nothing and lose 250k a week.

This is the sort of shit that Raiola does.

To be fair it is up to the agent of the players more often than not to help facilitate moves particularly possible loan deals if they are the main driver behind wanting out. It’s not really Manchester United on the surface who are pushing Ronaldo out.

If anything Mendes’ behaviour is about the only professional thing going on here he is doing his job in actively looking for solutions for his client and the club. For me he’s not really the issue in this particular case.

The problem here is and always has been Ronaldo he clearly won’t accept a bit part role but also appears reluctant at best or actively resistant at worst to ten Hags regime. So he needs to move but at his age, with his baggage and playing preferences the number of clubs who would want him has diminished beyond what Ronaldo himself would have anticipated.

This very much feels like ego vs reality but unless Ronaldo is willing to accept lower wages as a reflection of his lower status in the game now he can’t secure a bigger move than Napoli. The fact he appears to be happier to make that move than stay at a club that finally genuinely looks to have made sensible appointments is very telling.

Well if we have to pay him anyway I would prefer to send him on holiday in Portugal for a year.

Then he is out of the club and we are not paying for him playing for another team.

But we need to publicly state that we want him gone and we will not demand a transfer fee. This way it will be embarrassing for him when he still cannot find a club. Further after the window closes he will not be able to to come out and say that it was our fault he does not get to play CL this year.

I want to believe Ronaldo has a last resort were he lowers his wages by a huge amount but he's waiting till the last minute

Lets be realistic, you're not going put him in the reserves. The guy skipped training for weeks and was straight back in the first team squad.

Best possible outcome (if nobody wants him) is an agreement where you pay him off a % of his remaining contract and he goes on a free.

If he is in the last year of his contract and nobody wants him even on loan, just pay his contract out and release him, like Chelsea just did with Ross Barkley.
The difference here though is Chelsea have plenty of other options in the squad than Barkley so likely wanted him off the books more than they needed a transfer fee.

Ronaldo wants to go more than I think United want to lose him (I’m firmly in the get rid camp personally) so if any concessions are to be made then they should be on Ronaldo’s part not the club.

Ronaldo has two choices for me. Find a solution with your agent for agreeable loan terms or mutually cancel the contract.

I will be annoyed if we buy him out of his contract that for me would be poorly managing the situation.

My heart wants him out and my head says Mendes is a very good agent that usually gets what he wants for his clients.

I hope a loan agreement where we aren’t lumbered with his full salary is agreed as that would be preferable to paying out his contract or having to keep an unhappy employee who has the potential to cause disruption.

There’s no way if we keep him he ends up in the reserves.

The issue here is we’ve given him such a large contract that he won’t want to lose the money or accept a much lower wage elsewhere as it’s almost an admission of his falling standards.
