Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

Oh Kane is liked in the dressing room.

But he's won nothing.

I hope he stays this season and plays well. Even Kane wanted to leave Spurs last summer, and then ended up having a good season.

He also spent like 4 months playing like shit and I'm not sure we could afford that next season.

Would say that's more to do with Spurs than Kane. After Conte came in, his performances improved. I think with a proper coach like Ten Hag, Ronaldo will play much better than last season.

Rio was always a muppet regarding Ronaldo. Very weird that adult person spends his time on social media tagging and praising Ronaldo for years with hardly any responses just to please the fans, it happened even when he played for Real Madrid. He is popular even without Ronaldo, so why the need to embarass himself?

Maybe he's a fanboi ?

Kit launch today.
Should be safe to get a Ronnie shirt after all?

The worst outcome would be being stuck with him because nobody wants him.

Well true. But Rio does share a personal relationship with Ronaldo so there’s a good chance he’s phoned him up and had a long chat with him. The way Rio was so defensive of him when you watch the interview suggests Ronaldo would’ve presented enough evidence of whatever issue he had for Rio to believe. But knows.

I guess Ronaldo has his own PR machine working to his agenda, but I did not know anyone had claimed he was one of the dressing room leaks.

Based on what he said the other day, Rio doesn't sound like someone who's in close contact with Ronaldo and is privy to all the details.

He sounds like half the creepy feckers in this thread typing their sticky-fingered defense of our expensive malcontent.

I like Rio but he strikes me as a sort of a clown sometimes. Regarding Ronaldo definitely.

I'm getting a bit miffed about the whole Ronaldo AWOL thing. Hand on heart I know it must be awful to go through what they have done. But when you see pictures of him on holiday on a private yacht, laughing etc for weeks and the day or two he is due back at United for pre-season there is a family issue and he stays in Lisbon for 5 extra days...I'm finding it very hard to believe if I'm being honest. He's throwing his dummy out of the pram.

The fact this whole affair is now the talking point of our pre-season is a joke too and yet again it's the Ronaldo show and not the United squad pre-season show.

I feel for ETH as he's going to get asked question after question on this during the tour.

I'd also like to add I find it very telling what two Juve legends said about Ronaldo after he left Juve in 2021. Neither are questioning his professionalism or skill, but more that it becomes a one man team focused around him and the squad lost the fire. We can't play the ETH pressing way with Ronaldo up front, it's as simple as that and for that reason alone I want the guy out so that ETH can get this squad firing on all cylinders

Bonucci - "“Last year the team played for him, now the group must rediscover that Juve spirit that was there before his arrival. Cristiano’s presence had a big influence on us. Just training with him gave us something extra but subconsciously players started to think his presence alone was enough to win games. We began to fall a little short in our daily work, the humility, the sacrifice, the desire to be there for your team-mate day after day. Over the last few years, I think you could see that."

Chiellini - “I had already figured out he could leave this summer, because we reached a stage of the working relationship where Cristiano needed new motivation and a team that would play for him, when he finds a team like that, he can always be decisive, as he was at Juve too. Juventus are beginning a process of renewal and trying to bring the average age down, so clearly he would’ve been an added bonus if he’d stayed, but it’s fair he wanted a team more focused on the present than the future.”

Chelsea lost most of the defence, more on the way out. Kante mostly injured, might be going also.

Chelsea wont be close to winning Champions League but Ronaldo contemplating joining them. Just shows that he would join anyone at this point fecking mercenary.

Its abit sad seeing how you guys judge the players based on media reports and with no facts. Moreso on a absolute professional like Ronaldo. As fans of this club, we have to reserve our judgment until the truth is out.

If it is true that Ronaldo was trying to skip training so that he can force the move, then you are free to continue your hatred. However if the real reason is due to family issues, then all of you should reflect at whether you are truly fans of this club.

When the media runs imaginary negative stories on Liverpool players, Liverpool fans are always up in arms to defend their players. But over here, people immediately believe them. Its a sad state of affairs and its even more of a insult when you guys are classified as Manchester United fans.

Why do you throw a word hatred out there. Nobody hates the guy, people are just annoyed with the way he's dealing with the whole thing. Also saying what kind of Manchester United fans are people or are not from your point of view is a bit too much.
And you're right, Liverpool fans always defend their players, they defended Suarez when he racially abused Evra too...
Hopefully we'll know if its a family issue or not, but in any case he wont be on a plane to Thailand. It is strange there's a supposed family thing for 5 days now, just ahead of a preseason tour.

They’ll be playing Champions League group games which will give him the opportunity to score a few more goals. I’d be amazed if they pay him more than United.

So a selfish egotistical diva, sure, but not particularly a mercenary.

I generally simpathize with players having a big ambition, but in this case I interpret this as selfish and egocentrical.

Cristiano Ronaldo has (or had) the respect from Man Utd fans due to this talent and achievements in the past. He is undoubtedly still a great player.

But he is 37 yo, closer to retirement and like it or not, there are better and younger players that will outclass him sooner or later. Is is worth playing CL and scoring a few goals by sacrificing his reputation with the last fanbase that still respected him? I honestly don't think so.To the contrary, he could have been seen as a true hero by taking leadership of a crappy locker room and giding United to a brighter future, like Zlatan did with Milan.

I believe this is enough evidence to prove that he indeed wants to overpass Messi's legend somehow.

I've had a few days to consider other view points but the more I think about it, the more I think just get rid.

The idea he is doing this to push the club to show ambition is utter nonsense. He drops this a couple of days before the first training session under a new manager, whom he has supposedly had conversations with about the plans for the season. He did this a week before the tour starts, knowing full well that he was a draw for that and it's going to disappoint fans and harm the club. He even got in the new kit coming out.

Anyway you look at this it was done with maximum disruption, he either chose, or didn't care, that he did this at the most awkward time to hit out. As far as I'm concerned he should be gone. I worry he won't because no one else will want him, and if he stays I'll certainly give less of a toss when the games start.

They've got a very good team and have a good chance at winning silverware this season. Chelsea are also trying to buy De Ligt & De Jong if you're going to believe all the rumours you hear... so it's a pretty attractive proposition considering he owes nothing to our club.

If the guy doesn't want to be here, he can go. No point calling him a mercenary and being all bitter about it. It's not like he's leaving for Newcastle.

Oh dear.

You have to use your critical faculties in football as lots of times players and agents are engineering situations to suit their own ends. That's the nature of elite competition, a billion dollar industry, and wildly inflated egos running the show. It doesn't mean they have to come out in the press and say something ridiculous like "I am being held against my will, I am a slave" (;)), but if you don't think they are working behind the scenes to manipulate clubs into doing what they want then you are slightly naive.

If you genuinely believe the sudden leaks with regards to Ronaldo wanting out was just coordinated press guff then that's your prerogative. It's completely unnecessary and insulting to infer that fans that have joined the dots in a different way are somehow not real fans.

Also, this isn't the first time he's flown back to Portugal at a time when he was supposed to be available for the club, you know. He doesn't give a shit about you - a "real" fan, he doesn't give a shit about United. He cares only about Ronaldo. The fact he's still got ardent defenders like you is the most bizarre aspect of this whole thing for me.

I had a mate once, went on garden leave. Walked past his house, there he was in the
garden.

Brentford. Away.

Might have more to do with the fact nobody wants him...

I really don’t see how him staying after this shite ends well. There was already quite clearly a fractured dressing room with him here (if rumours are to be believed there was a bit of a split between Ronaldo’s ‘crew’ and Maguire for captaincy) — that will only be exacerbated if he comes back after failing to show up for preseason.

Imagine if United get zero bids for him haha...it would be a very strange decision to go public with your desire to leave if you had not already found a new club.

Does anyone believe in the possibility he will win another PL or CL at United?

That's how it seems.

I think he expected clubs to be lining up but it's turned out dry. Now he's going to worm his way back in by saying I love the club blah blah

Is it so much a case of worming his way back in as much as he's the only player we've got to play his position?

Of course not.

That's not really the point though. You can't refuse to show up for work just because your company isn't doing quite as well as you'd like.

Well he might get priority on the pitch but he's burnt his bridges with a lot of fans already.

No doubt some fanboys will act like he didn't just take a giant dump on us though.

He did that in 2007 and 2008 as well though, football fans have very short memories. If he does stay and for example scores against Brighton I'd be astonished if "Viva Ronaldo" doesn't get an airing. It's like when Rooney publicly requested a transfer, there were fans singing his name again by Christmas.

This similarly happened with Rooney before and I thought we would be angry at him forever at the time. No doubt if Ronaldo were to come back he wouldn’t be greeted with the same enthusiasm as last year at Old Trafford, but maybe after he retires it’ll soften up the blow just a little bit.
