First goal was pure striker instinct. Second one was simply class. If he can continue this we may win something this season imo. Finally we've found someone who can score against a fecking parked bus. Feel a bit sorry for Cavani but he'll play in the CL I think. We should save Ronnie for the PL and CL later stages only imo.

Thank you Ronnie for scoring a brace on my birthday.
No amount of smileys can describe your class.

Ronnie will want to play every CL match I reckon, considering his record in the competition.

His level at 36 is just unreal... he will play at this level until he's 40 at this rate. Crucial for unlocking parked buses if today's anything to go by.

Feels so surreal and nostalgic to see his trademark celebration in our kit.

It was such a classic old-school Ronaldo goal wasn’t it?
Yep, pull into the channel with a sprint style run - take 1 touch and bang. He genuinely looked mid 20's out there. Much quicker than I hoped.

The first goal Cavani or any decent striker is probably sniffing out, but that second he still had a bit to do. That still required a really good touch, pace and a finish.

Didn’t think I’d see him score for us again. What a great sight to see

I hope we get both Real and Juventus in the CL and he smashes them both.

HES BACK

Great second goal. Touch still looks great, also was calm and enjoying himself. Underestimated how good his overall game/link up still is alongside the poacher instinct

Good point about enjoying himself. Think that'll help him and the team throughout his stay here, the right kind of pressure.

Was just missing a header for a perfect hatrrick.

He lives for the pressure and it's a boost for the squad clearly. Will allow us to ease in Sancho too

The best thing was how much fun he was having, happy to be there and for his team mate goals and enjoying being back

I think Ronaldo knows now that United is his true home. He doesn't get that amount of love from any of the other clubs he played for. The stadium was fecking buzzing today and Ronaldo looked like he really enjoyed it. More to come...

Noticed about 3 Newcastle players come up to him at the end and ask for his shirt!

Bet that would boil your piss if you were a Newcastle fan

His first goal is what we've needed and what we saw from Cavani at the back end of last season. That ability to sniff out chances inside the box. He will win us a lot of points this season.

Superb second debut from the man!

God mode. To have the ultimate greedy goal scorer banging in them again like he’s never been away is just wonderful.

I don't think I've ever seen a human ooze so much confidence and self-belief - and yet it's all warranted. Reminds me of character from an Ayn Rand novel.

One thing that pleasantly surprised me was how much space was available for other attackers. Unlike Zlatan, who became the central or only point of attack, he definitely allowed more fluidity. In fact, he gave space for Bruno to run ahead of him, Greenwood and Sancho to move central. Gives confidence that he will let our attack flourish. In tight games, we can even bring Martial or Cavani in towards the end just for their hold-up play, if and when it gets to that

Good goals but did look a bit once in a while a bit off and hope he can get in to a rhythm after a playing a few games.

The touch on the 2nd goal was indeed briliant. But his move to open up the space to receive that pass was WORLD class. Most forwards run a bee line straight ahead but he pushed out towards the line to make space between himself and the centre fullback and then he had an angle to come back. You can't teach that.

What a signing, 20mil for him and recoup 25m for James..

the perfect debut, looks very sharp still got enough pace even if its a yard short of his peak. Lifted the fans the players the club…

top of the league

Just brilliant. His movement is on another level. Born goalscorer. He will win us a lot of points this season. It’s not only his goals but the belief he instills in his teammates and the fear he invokes in the opposition. What a player. And he’s ours. Again.

He still can move but you forget how blistering he was.

I think what he still has, is that initial burst of pace. That quick reaction time. Obviously, over longer distances, he won't have the speed over many of the faster CB's and wingbacks in the league. But I don't think he's necessarily going to need that when you consider where he's going to be playing.

I reckon he would beat most players in the league in a 100m race.

I hadn’t seen much of him in the last few years but boy he’s a fecking machine at 36. Never expected that he would still have so much pace and trickery (and the insane leap).

What a player - what an athlete.

This. Early to say yes - but Sancho in particular had so much space because of Ronaldo.

xG means nothing to Ronaldo.

I remember not long ago (around 2 or 3 months), he did a great long sprint and scored against Germany in Euro, running from his own box to opponents box. I believe he could still out sprint many players over long distance if he wants too, but sure due to his age he may need a longer recovery time after the long run.
