Almost forgot how damn good he really is.

Feels like he should have come back earlier, but he's finally back to where he belongs. OT was buzzing, wish I was there!

I will always hold a grudge against Madrid. That said, I still think 07/08 and 08/09 was the best Ronaldo. Sure he became deadlier and more effective after that but to me he was the ultimate/complete footballer in those two seasons. Perfect combination of flair and everything else. That’s just a personal opinion cause I know trophies and every other metric states otherwise.
His best two seasons I reckon were 07/08 and 11/12 especially. He was something else during that season with Madrid.

His second goal was what he used to do in his prime alot for us and Madrid. Its so much harder than it looks. To take a through ball on (after a high intensity sprint) with your right and then take it past the defender and hit it low and hard with your left is something not many players can do.

We shouldve went all in for him when he left real in 2018.

Anyway; what a time to be alive.

Very few in the be world can do the

He should have returned when he left Madrid, no idea why we weren't in for him then. That being said I'm sure we're all just a tiny bit suspicious that he wouldn't even be here now had it not been for the rumoured City move

One thing that hasn't really been discussed, but I thought his defensive contribution was more than fine. It helps that Bruno is an absolute mad man that does the pressing of two people, but he really did his job as a true number 9. He wasn't just walking around out there, he cut off passing lanes and pressed when required. Just a brilliant debut.

The only player on the pitch to react for the first goal. Immaculate run and touch for the second. Got involved in the build up play and gave the whole team a lift.

I was trying to play down my expectations, but he is just timeless. Ridiculous player. Im confident we can win all of those home games we dropped point in last year, he just takes us to a new level. Cant wait for his next game. Viva!

The most positive part about today was how well he worked with the team.

It wasnt like he played well, but the team played badly. He wasnt a detriment to the team(like Juve fans would have you believe), he uplifted everybody. He basically slotted in for Cavani/Martial. His workrate wasnt that bad either, not too different from Martial. More importantly, he was a proper team player, and fit us perfectly. Onwards and upwards now.

I had no doubts that he would play well with Bruno. In Portugal they play Bruno way deeper, which is a mistake. Bruno as a #10 and Ronaldo as a #9 works perfectly for us.

Gutted to not be at the game today….I was there for his first debut aged 12 and can’t quite believe we have him back home. The nostalgia and emotion of having him back is just unreal. Can’t wait to take my two sons to see him live this year!!

He tells Greenwood to shoot or at least put an effort into the box before his goal.

Exactly what we need. A goalscorer and a leader by example.

I genuinely think this move was a move of convenience, as things aligned for us and him. If Juventus were doing well I think he probably wouldn’t have tried to leave. Not that I’m complaining as to how it worked out.

It looks like that and Manchester United became stronger with the adition of Varan and Sancho so this summer worked perfect for both parts as the team looks more appealing for him and by having him the team becomes more threatening.

What a picture perfect comeback. Really thrilled to see him immediately making an impact, but is anybody really surprised? These are the kinds of games without CR7 that you wonder if United come away with all three points. He's already making a big difference.

16/17 is his iconic season I reckon. First time a team won back-to-back CL's in the modern era and he dragged them there with back-to-back hat-tricks against the two best teams in Europe before a double in the final. Not as flashy but much more decisive.

I felt in 08/09 he was already streamlining, actually our whole team felt more machine like that season, or at least in hindsight: in terms of blending theatre with effectiveness his 06-08 climb was the best for me. He became a machine rather than an entertainer from 08/09 on in my eyes

I’m not mad at that assessment to be fair

Definitely. Ronaldo was one of the two final missing pieces of the puzzle.

He still can move but you forget how blistering he was.
I think now he chooses when he should sprint and when it’s not worth it to sprint, whereas in his prime he didn’t have to think of that, he could sprint anytime.

Kinda like Michael Jordan in ‘98 vs Michael Jordan in ‘91. The skills and the pace are still there but maybe the energy has to be wisely spent.

Man on a mission that year. Honestly, the CL is his competition. They should rename something about it after him once he retires or something.

I genuinely felt a sharp pang of emotional nostalgia watching him today. Maybe not even specifically for Utd, and not even specifically for the 06-09 team. More in a wider context, I think. The 00s weren't even as "iconic" a decade as the 90s or 60s or anything like that, certainly culturally at least. But I still felt a strong feeling of incredible warmth towards that entire period of time, watching Utd today. Its like I was transported back to when Ferguson, Wenger and Mourinho were battling it out and I was 15 years younger. The good old days!

Someone asked why United wasn't in for him when He moved to Juve, it's simple he was still worth a €100m, United bulked at the price.

He's going to score his customary 40 goals a season. He's a complete goal scorer at this point with his economy of movement in everything else.

I think at the time he still wanted to win some big trophies at a 3rd big club/league, which he did.

Yeah 06/07 and 07/08 were brilliant in entertainment and productivity.

Watching him strut around the pitch wearing the no. 7 shirt, it felt right like there was a sense of completeness we haven’t felt in a long time. Absolute god worship of him today, never seen that kind of adoration for a player in some time.

Very satisfying debut, plenty of good moments and thought his 2nd goal was absolutely frightening, if we can keep feeding him chances like that he is going to score loads!

Top UCL scorer for the season should be renamed to Cristiano Ronaldo award when he retires. No player has been near as good as him in that competition, not even the one whose name must not be mentioned.

Yeah 06/07 and 07/08 were brilliant in entertainment and productivity.
06/07 he was brilliant, but not super productive. In UCL for example, he scored only 3 goals.

07/08 he was the best in his United spell, when he was both an entertainer (albeit, not as much as in the previous season) and a goal machine.

08/09 he was injured at the beginning and was sulking for not being allowed to leave, but was very good in the second half of the season both in league, and especially in UCL. That goal against Porto was surreal.

However, he had several seasons where he was at least as good as in 07/08 for Madrid (and a couple when he was even better), so a shame that he didn't give us his peak years. Don't care though, as long as he wins the league, UCL and breaks our goal record.

Yeah I was gonna say his early Madrid years he was still the flashy superstar but with added deadliness in front of goal. Absolutely immense player but it gets lost in how good Messi and Barca was at the time.

You can't be serious. The keeper was poor for both goals. Honestly, he was nothing special today but of course the goals will generate ALOT of hype; the story of his career. Goals galvanising alot of otherwise average performances.

Interms of goals? Yes but how many performances were memorable or how many matches do you remember him apart from the typical goals? Even the matches where he scored hattricks and doubles, he was otherwise poor eg Bayern, Atletico, Wolfsburg etc

The link ups with the other players can only improve, so I look forward to a flood of goals in weeks to come.

You cannot be poor when you score hat-tricks against Bayern or Atletico with their monster defenses and eliminate them. And then score a brace against Juve (Buffon, Chiellini, Bonucci in defense) to win the trophy.

People no longer knows the fecking raison d'être of a number 9 and it’s fecking exhausting.

Just before the whistle he smiled like a kid, you just knew he'll sniff the blood and finish them off.

The overwhelming support and recognition shown today here for this guy has left me bordering on emotional.

I lurked for years and only joined to share his moments in football with some like minded fellas in the general Football Forum. I've also been, mind you, a Utd fan since 1999 (that final).

To have followed this guy's every game, and to see him come back and, on his first day, show exactly what he's made of, and then seeing you all posting and sharing your thoughts has been something I didn't know I had wanted so much all my life.

I've said it time and time again. This dude is just incredible at football. Enjoy it while you can. A huge hole will be left in the footballing world once he's gone.

Edit: at this point in my life and his career I'm seriously considering spending whatever cash I have to go to Old Trafford watch him live.

Usually watch him when he comes to Lisbon for Portugal, but in hindsight I truly regret not going to Madrid for one game. I'm not sure I want to repeat the same mistake now.

He was more entertaining at United. But his productivity was just much better at Madrid, even his overall game at Madrid was much more refined.
