So we're gonna spend an entire week talking about a smile and a headshake?

He was embarrassed by the result. I'm not so sure about others who were strolling around having given up by the 60th minute.

Edit: he's part of the result. I'd rather see players having some sort of emotion and discontent rather than looking like they're okay with what's going on. But I guess we all have different priorities for the kind of players we wanna have on the pitch.

I’d expect any player part of that abysmal showing to be hurt by it, just a little bit.
If you want to keep performing, you have to distance yourself from these clowns to some extent. Otherwise you just get sucked in to the void. Ask any one of these players that have been successful elsewhere. (Varane, among others).

People are making a big deal out of the laugh, its a coping mechanism, what are you gonna do at that point.

If I were him I’d leave too. Absolutely no-one of any quality should be playing in a soulless team like this.

A lot of people were laughing in that moment too. It’s a laugh of pain mixed with embarrassment mixed with complete disbelief. You think it can’t get any worse and then it does. Mixed in with all of the negative emotions, there is something amusing in that moment.

The situation is pathetic, and I do think he’s been our best player ever since we’ve gone back down to 1 game a week, but I think him leaving early in the window could do a lot for Ten Hag from a tactical perspective.

Some serious clutching at straws going on here. A small headshake and laugh in disbelief does not crack the Top 100 worst things about todays game.

Get a grip.

I can't believe the turnaround in this thread from last week.

Ronaldo has been outstanding for United this season. He's one of the very few who has actually given a shit.

One laugh against Brighton (which if anything, shows humility and a sense of humour about the dire situation) and half of you want him out the door!

It's embarrassing that this needs to be explained to be honest, the cafe is awful these days.

Outstanding? He played well the last few weeks after being average/terrible the rest of the season.

Fair do’s, I was fecking raging.

Not sure how you care so much? The season has been an absolute fecking travesty, and it's not even worth getting upset anymore. I feel total apathy towards this group of players/manager, and I have zero connection to them.

If Real Madrid wins the CL without him his legacy is going down a bit... It's like if Pippen (Benzema) won when Jordan was retired... I wonder what it'll do to his motivation to play CL football next season
How does that make sense.

They won 4 CL titles in 5 years WITH Ronaldo. 4 Finals in 5 years and won 3 in a row.

In the 5 years since he left they have now made it to....one final.

There is a very clear reason for that and the reason is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Please explain to me how that logic you tried to put out makes any kind of sense.

He hasn't been near 'outstanding' for United.

The laugh means absolutely nothing.

The completely hapless individual performance proves that even when he’s down to one game per week his age means we’ll eventually see the same heavy legged, running through quicksand, displays he produced when asked to play twice a week.

Which confirms that building a team round him next season would be absolute madness (if that wasn’t obvious already)

Eventually he'll be a wealthy old man...we probably shouldn't play him then.

Looking at the game today, with the other 9 players all bunched back in defense -- yet failing to defend in the slightest OR show any sign that they knew how to transition to attack -- I'm not sure that replacing him will be a priority.

Who do you think would have managed to win the game with that mess? How much would they cost?

I am concerned about what kind of strikers or forwards we are looking at right now and if they want to come. We need to get that one right. It is a pretty grim situation for us considering we will also need to rebuild the midfield from scratch.

Ronalod’s laugh is not a concern. It was a grim performance, no question, but he was not alone.

Anyone expecting him to stay next season? Lives off scraps and has to watch our defence and midfield implode on a match to match basis. He'd probably have scored 40 goals for City had he gone there and been looking forward to a champions league final. Genuinely feel sorry for him.

For his sake I hope a good opportunity with a Champions League team comes up for him. It'll take blind loyalty and ridiculous determination to want to stay here, it's almost certainly going to end without any trophies, even if we bounce back really well under EtH.

I was at Smithfield Hall in NYC which is a Utd bar. We all just looked at each other and smiled too. If the idiots think he isn’t hurt by this then well…they’re idiots.

I’ll be honest, I never, ever thought I’d live to see the day ManUtd fans would be on Ronaldo’s back. He gave me my greatest United moments. It hurts.

But then again, I never thought we would lose 4-0 to Brighton. That hurts more. So the Ronaldo haters won’t bother me because I’m numb right now.

It's literally 2 or 3 people complaining about it.

He's been great recently but was crap today tbh. Passes, flicks and shots were all off. Shame his off day came with...well actually the team is always off.

You've been quiet on him the last few games until today.

Recency bias is amazing. A strong end to the season has convinced people he’s been good all year. He scored 2 non penalty goals in 3 months during December-March, probably our most important part of the season.
