Can really only see him leaving if Bayern need to replace Lewandowski for some reason in the summer. We need to do everything we can to keep him next year and make sure he doesn't get burned out. POTY for us this season, a big parade through the city and maybe some sort of cake? I'm talking about a really fecking nice cake though, like a carrot cake from Gregg's or something.

At this point in his career, I don’t see him kicking a big fuss and rocking the boat when he’s got a year left on his contract, unless ETH tells him he doesn’t want him (which would be insane).

I don’t agree with this opinion that he was awful for 3-4 months either. He was still amongst our best players in most of the matches around that time and I can remember at least a few where his teammates either fluffed the final ball to him or simply didn’t attempt the pass that would have led to a good scoring chance for him.
His movement in and around the box has been world class all season.
Every single striker in the league has had fallow spells during the season.

Annoying that his first goal seemed a toenail offside yesterday.

Did he not sign a 2 year deal? Unless there is an exit clause based on no CL football, surely we have the final say in where he's playing next season?

I assume we shouldn't be reading too much into this either way?

Indeed. It didn’t look like he said it in the way it’s being interpreted in any case. It looked more like he was telling the camera man to get out of his way.

Yeah but do you really see the club forcing Cristiano to stay? I don't. I really hope he stays, but if he doesn't, we move on and rebuild. I think having him for another year will actually help ETH a ton as he's a guarantee of goals and leadership.

Did anyone see Rangnick's interesting comments about Ronaldo not being a central striker, and needing 2 more strikers. Hmm.

You need to remember that he is the GOAT. If he tells the club he is leaving....then he leaves. The club won't stand in his way.
Put simply, we are not good enough for him and we are probably 2-3 years away from being ready to win a trophy of any kind.

I made this point in the ETH thread: a lot of people on this forum are making out that he is the best manager in the World. He has not proved himself at a big club, where the pressure is much higher than at Ajax. The likelihood of his failure at MUFC is far higher than the likelihood of success. It is quite likely that he stays with us for 3 years and doesn't get close to winning a trophy during that time.
ETH will absolutely not tell Ronaldo to leave - ETH simply doesn't have the clout to tell the GOAT that he needs to leave due to footballing reasons. Jose, LVG could've got away with that....but not ETH.
Considering the above, if Ronaldo stays, then he'll do so, knowing that he won't be winning any more trophies. If I were Ronaldo, I'd go to a club so I could win another trophy next year. I would not stand for another season without trophies.

For selfish reasons, I'd rather keep our best outfield player.

I kind of agree but not fully. If he says he wants to leave, we won't stand in his way........ providing we get an offer matching our valuation of him.

It doesn't matter who he is, we wouldn't let him go on a free.

He's my fave player at the club by a million miles so I really hope he decides to stay and ETH chooses to stick with him. How many strikers still guarantee 20 league goals a season? It's incredible really.

If we had functioning team, he would have been top scorer in the league.
Fully agree. He has had several goals ruled our for being a millimetre offside too! Decisions in which if there was no VAR the goals would have stood! Had he been playing in a half decent team he would have at least 25 goals right not in the league, which takes him to 30+ goals in all competitions which is quite ridiculous if you ask me as what he has done far is impressive as it is

His first season is always the least good, Madrid/Juve's first season were fine, but he improved in the 2nd season in both ocasions. I don't see any reason he wouldn't, once again, perform better next season than the one that's currently wrapping up.

Salah would be far, far better than Ronaldo, come on. Liverpool have spread the goals around way more than United did, everything would be through Salah here if he played here and he's better than Ronaldo so would put up better goal and assist numbers, rather than having Mané, Jota and Diaz taking some of the goalscoring burden.

I don't think ETH will want to start his United career on the wrong foot by telling Cristiano Ronaldo to leave.

100% agree with this. When Pep got rid of Ronaldinho & Deco , Ronaldinho was coming off an injury plagued season where he had scored less than 10 goals in 25 games and Deco had scored 1 goal in 30 games. Their decline and loss of motivation was visible. If ETH got rid of Ronaldo and failed to get 4th place or lost a cup semifinal/final, he'd be slaughtered by fans and the press. Especially if Ronaldo is scoring for fun in a new team. I'd question ETH's ability to manage 'risk' if he didn't publicly demand for Ronaldo to stay.

Awk have a day off would ya, it sounds more like your team were playing tonight, Salah would struggle in this team just as much as Sancho has this season.

And to think you're arguing against your namesake too, unbelievable.

Liverpool spread the goals out more than us because they score much more and have more competent attackers. In our team, only Ronaldo can be compared to any of their forwards.
And Salah isn’t a better goalscorer than Ronaldo imo. Not even now. Ronaldo has outscored him every single season in his career even at his advanced age. This is the first season Salah is ahead and even then only just about (and with playing more games). And he’s really only in front due to the large disparity in the quality of the teams they play for.

Ronaldo would get more assists if he had players like Mane, Jota and Diaz around him in a better coached side.

Salah has been on diabolical form ever since his African cup loss to his teammate, so I don't think that's as unlikely as you may think.

He hasn't been in diabolical form recently, had a slight drop off from the amazing heights of earlier in the season but he's taken a different role playing a part in his team since Mané moved in the middle and Diaz joined the team. Last night for example he was good without scoring. I just can't see Ronaldo taking that back seat for a while to allow a team to flourish. At the start of the season I predicted that Ronaldo would suddenly end up scoring nearly all of our goals as soon as he arrived, but the team would score fewer goals overall as goals vanished from all other forwards. Because it's what he does everywhere. It's exactly what's happened to a tee.

I loved Keane as a player but doesn't mean I agree with everything he says as a pundit. And that's just not true, Salah is one of the best players in the world, Sancho isn't. Just being honest about the ability of these players since this thread seems low on any kind of objectivity.

Ronaldo is scoring all our goals because he’s the only one capable at the moment not for any other reason.

Don't worry about that, Ronaldo even sucks goals like a damn vampire out of the teams he isn't at anymore - that's why Juventus is on track to score 60 goals in Serie A this season, their worst tally in at least 8 years, less 17 than last season, for example. Guy can even dry out an entire team after he's left!

The goals were drying up well before Ronaldo arrived. It's not debatable.

If Real Madrid wins the CL without him his legacy is going down a bit... It's like if Pippen (Benzema) won when Jordan was retired... I wonder what it'll do to his motivation to play CL football next season

Juve did not have the chance to replace Ronaldo as he left last minute and lost Chiesa to injury..

Madrid and Juventus have both looked better since Ronaldo’s last season with them. If Ronaldo did leave this summer, it wouldn’t surprise me to see United do better as well.

Amidst all the United beat City to the signing/City never truly wanted him... I'd be willing to bet that had Ronaldo gone there, he would've provided that extra mentality difference to see them through in the CL this year (while not providing much difference in the league, just scoring a boatload which they do anyway).

The more crucial point is that if you put Ronaldo into that Liverpool team instead of Salah then that Liverpool team would be much worse overall and score fewer goals, because Salah obviously contributes far more beyond just goals than current-day Ronaldo does.

Whether Ronaldo individually could get more goals than Salah does within that lessened version of the same team is only so relevant given the aim is for the team to be as good as possible, not for the individual to thrive within it as much as possible.

If I was trying to big Ronaldo up, comparisons like that which don't flatter him aren't the way I'd go about it.

I think neither this or that. Ronaldo would want to move on to another club with CL football, ETH would not try to convince him to stay, so even if we failed to finish top 4 and Ronaldo is scoring for fun in his new team, it wouldn't be his fault.

When did this start?

Last season. I've had this discussion a few times in this thread and am always surprised how folk have deleted this from memory.

Martial barely scored all season. Greenwood barely scored first half of the season.

Bruno and Rashford really struggled for league goals Jan 2021 onwards. Second half of last season they got about 4 league goals each not including pens.

Us being dysfunctional going forwards didn't suddenly begin with Ronaldo. You'd have to ignore how shoddy we were second half of last season to believe that.

Some good points.

Even this season, Greenwood could have scored double digit easily and Cavani could have helped a bit more but we know what happened to them.

It is not like we are using the same forward force as the last season. It is Ronaldo only for half of the reason. They was not even doing that good last season. I remember people putting it on Bruno that he scored too many making the team scored less as a whole.

Now, it is Ronaldo.
