Because he wants to win. He might be angry but he knows goals win games and actually looks like he cares, rather than just sat their, resigned to coming off. Want some actual fire in the players.

Objectively the best way to win is to take off a nearly 37 year old striker once a game is won, to save them for the next game at the weekend. Ronaldo shows a lack of understanding for team football if he can’t understand a picture bigger than himself.

So Ronaldo should expect to stay on the pitch for 90 mins every game no matter what level of shit performance he's putting in just because there's a chance he may score ?
No, that's not what I said. You know he can personally be frustrated at his level of performance during the game and want the chance to redeem himself with a goal. Love people calling this stroppy attitude into questions of ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS OF ALL TIME.

As if his attitude hasn't dragged him to where he is.

He was disappointed, but now - quick add in narrative that he hates the team and is all about himself.

I do actually think the other players want to win as well.
Yeah they want to win. Do they need to win. Inside. Is it a desire. Everyone likes winning. Not everyone will break their backs to do it. People laud Keane but that is what made him so special. He didn't want to win. He needed to win.

Huge difference/

Ronaldo - "For me, the most important thing is the mentality. For you to be professional, help the team, the right mentality, self-thought, positive"

Also Ronaldo, when subbed, in a game leading 2-0 with 15mins to go, coming back from injury, with another important game 3 days later - throws hissy fit, has to be calmed down by the coach like a daddy calming down a petulant toddler.

Oh Ronnie

- Ronaldo is now shared 12th on the non-penalty goals list in the league, shared with 7 other players, despite having the 6th highest npxG (expexted non penalty goals) in the league. He's 3rd on the list for npxG90 for players with more than 10 games, and still 18 other players has scored as many or more non penalty goals than Ronaldo in the PL this season.
- He is shared 116th on xA90 (expected assists per 90) in the league, 9th in our team for players with 5 games or more....
- He is dead last in the league in pressings per 90, successful pressings per 90 and pressings in the attacking 3rd (forwards only) per 90.
- Bruno has had more goalcontributions than him in all comps for us this season despite Ronaldo taking over penalties.....

Had one crisp chest-pass and a decent header yesterday. You can see he's trying to make a few more negative runs than he did earlier in the season, but he's still bottom of the list when it comes to defensive workrate on the pitch.

Imagine if you also had Greenwood sitting there also ranting away because he came off, sounds it would be great for the squad morale.

That's irrelevant to his current performances. He is one of the best players of all time, yes. But he's not even one of the best players in the epl this season and should be judged as such.

Against Brentford:
0 Chances Created
0 Shots on Target
0 Take ons completed
21 passes completed out of 29 attempted.
Lost Possession 8 times.
1 Strop for being being subbed off after another shit game.

But he had a nice chest pass and must be our best player.

Like I mentioned in the Greenwood thread, if only this Ronaldo is held to the standards Greenwood is being held to because everyone in that thread thinks he (Greenwood) was completely shit barring the goal he scored, but Ronaldo seems to get away with it every game.

That attitude may have helped him score so many goals in the past but you can put it down to the impetuousity of youth. Some people wanted Ronaldo to be captain of this team. Captains don’t do that kind of thing, the elder statesman role is supposed to be different to a striker trying to prove himself. In a well functioning squad, Ronaldo should be guiding the young players and setting a good example, not being self absorbed that he can’t stat pad.

Again with this BS? He had the fewest touches on the pitch in all his prime years in Real Madrid and Juventus. He's built his legacy on finding the right moments. It's more about the team not providing him with scoring chances if anything.
Again with this BS? Strikers tend to have relatively low number of touches compared to their teammates, however, they need to be part of the build up themselves for a team but be consistently successful. If we're not creating chances, Ronaldo is not absolved of the blame himself - what he does with the ball as part of that build-up is important, e.g. his chest pass was wonderful and we need to see more of that.

He was better than he's been recently yesterday but was still arguably the least effective forward player, mind. If he contributes positively in key moments of build-up play, he'll consequently get on the end more chances. They're not mutually exclusive.

Ronaldo will be shooting on site against West Ham now.. He desperately needs a goal to settle him down.. I hope the team can help him

like I said strikers live on goals and when they are not scoring they are not happy and low on confidence. It's normal maybe not for a 37 year old but this is not a normal 37 year old.

to have that reaction at 37 years old.. Rio said it's a good thing as it shows he isn't a mercenary just picking up his salary not caring.

hopefully he can score a goal against West Ham and the team can help him. I really hope so..

Who gives a shit about helping Ronaldo? Manchester United doesn’t exist to serve his needs.

The lad needs to go, we can’t be a conduit for one man’s ego. He needs to go somewhere that is set up for the Ronaldo show, we can’t be that club - certainly not in this moment.

This drama and negativity is not good the vultures are circling and can't wait to kick Ronny when he's down.. I wish Ronaldo just score a goal yesterday and we wouldn't have this.. why oh why couldn't that header sneak in.. :( no luck.

We would be having a different more positive narrative from the media and fans about how worked much harder in the game running pressing etc. but because he didn't score a goal.. the over-analysing and over the top criticism happens to create dramas.

We should really stay clear of bringing back former players, as we clearly have a section of fans who are too emotionally unstable to accept criticism of their beloved heroes.

It's sad that this club has become guilty of the thing we used to laugh at the scousers for; living in the past and desperately trying to cling on to the shadows of former legends.

I'm taking a break from this thread and forum until after the West Ham game it's too toxic and negative with all the over the top criticism and drama.. I will also avoid any media as its toxic and negative too with vultures circling to kick Ronny and the club when he's down.. Rio Ferdinand and BT Sport never made a drama out of it after the game they seen Ronaldo's reaction as a positive thing and loved to see it the presenter said.. but now it's turned into a negative drama and stick to beat Ronny with and kick him when he's down..

And hopefully Ronaldo scores against West Ham to bring the positivity and smile back and get rid of all this negativity, hate and drama the media is stoking and the fans are believing like sheep.. A happy Ronaldo is what should be a priority for the club if they want to get Top 4 and go deep in the CL. The only way to do that is with Ronaldo happy and scoring goals firing. So Ronaldo's teammates will hopefully help him score a goal against West Ham if they see the bigger picture...

He and Cavani be gone in 5 months, it doesn't really matter if he's upset.

Sonya, tough times atm, but we need you to stay strong.

Remember, the night is darkest just before the dawn (or some shit like that).

How he looks? The obsession with defending him at all costs is borderline creepy at times.

He was completely disrespectful and fans are right to be disappointed with his behaviour coming off, particularly at his age. 36 years old and still behaves like a spoiled child. Footballs a team game, though that concept might be lost on people who support players rather than clubs.
Bang on point - it's mystifying how football club fans think like this these days.
Imagine if RR had to do this for every sub he made.

Spot on.

Worse thing is the scouser legends seemed to genuinely care about their club.

Who could have foreseen there might have been issues with a 36 year old striker with a huge ego you have to build your playstyle around?

Some of these shouldn't surprise us, but they're still hard to believe.

Ha! Some right plonkers in this thread. 'Don't you UNDERSTAND???? He is the GREATEST!!!' Calling out lazy feckers on the squad? Yes indeed. Looking for higher standards? With you all the way, Ronnie. This childish, self-obsessed bullshit? The very opposite of what I need to be looking at. 12 year old Anthony Elanga in his post match interview made Ronaldo look like a dick. More like a dick, I mean. Like a bigger dick. Not in a good way.
Wait ... What's this?

You'd think he would realize how ridiculous he looks right now.

I dunno. Some People have short memories (look at the over the top criticism Ronaldo gets on this forum there's no respect for a United Legend and what he's done for the club in the past from United fans) don't they and tend to focus on players last moments rather than seeing the career as a whole in perspective.

United fans instead of calling for him to retire and a disgrace etc they could be more respectful and say it hasn't worked out (for whatever reason) but he's a United Legend still and deserves to leave with his legacy intact out the front door with his head held high and wish him well in his future endeavours. They don't need to be so disrespectful to a United Legend. Especially one that turned down City to comeback. That could cost City winning the Champions League this season.
Well, this is the player performance thread after all. This is where we discuss the current, not the past, and it has nothing to do with respect or lack of respect for his brilliant CV. It's about what he brings to this team on and off the pitch right now. And right now he deserves the storm...

I'm sorry, but I would have loved it if City signed him. His profile fits City so much worse than us.

Thinking you are better than you are is not elite mentality.

I think Ronnie stays otherwise we’re down 3 strikers and not even in the market for a new one

Agree. For this to happen we would need to sign Haaland, and we all know that's impossible. Ronnie must stay, especially bearing in mind that we desperately need to sign players who will hopefully improve our midfield and defense.

I was reminded today by the Athletic piece on the game of Mason’s reaction when Ronny was acting like a petulant child after being subbed… taking it all in, cogs whirring.

Not the attitude we need around impressionable youngsters, especially when Ronny has been cast (by himself and the club) as the one to look up to and learn from.

Sorry mate, Greenwood is a junior player who has achieved the square root for nothing in his career. You're talking about a top five player to have ever played the game.

Love this, as if his chest pass didn't set up Bruno for the second goal!

I wonder if this goes hand in hand with the thing about not all players responding to him positively, rather than thinking "I can do that". Maybe Mason was thinking "I'm not getting a shot at number 9 because of this nobber?"

We don't know what's going on in his head, really.

He sets an example every day in training, his standards are high and he believes he should be playing and scoring goals. He's a winner. A proven winner.

Impressionable youngsters? He’s not 6 years old, I’m sure Greenwood knows what would happen if he acted like that. In 15 years time after winning everything in the game he gets subbed off in the 75th minute then he might be entitled to act that way, until then, he knows his arse would be back in the reserves before the game even ended

We’re potentially looking at a forward line of Elanga, Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho should Ronaldo go but that really isn’t enough you would think so he has to stay. Unless Greenwood turns into to some form of monster next season we will need the goals.

People can't have their cake and eat it. Its this exact mentality that has turned Ronaldo into a player who is in the discussion for the greatest players to ever lace a pair of football boot. You take this edge away from him, the will to win, the will to be the best and to strive for every personal acolade thats avaliable for him to take then would he even be half the player he turned out to be? Would the teams he played for been half as successful? Whatever is going on between Ronaldo's two ears is something people should be striving to analyse to find the answers that can help them better their own lives because his mind is what has made him so great.

The man is in his late 30s, has achieved everything in the game yet is devestated to be taken off in a cold, windy night at Brentford when the game was already won. Honestly the fact that hes still as hungry as he has always been is incredible. And no game is too small for him.
