Cricket

Trott's just retired from International Cricket, that was a bit....er...strange.

Strange timing but it was probable that he may never be the same at test match level following his stress related illness. Still a quality batsmen for England and was a vital part in their success. Wish him all the best for the future.

Yeah, it's just strange how they rushed him back, stuck him where he doesn't bat and now he's retired. Feels like a waste of 3 tests where Lyth could have been blooded ahead of the Ashes.

How would English cricket fans feel if an Aussie is the next coach of the England national team?

Good stuff from Younis & Azhar.

Although, you'd think it's time we moved on from Younis. Been a great player but time to give someone else a chance, on what seem like flat pitches, to get experience and develop for the future.

This has another draw written all over it. Test matches in Bangladesh, India and SL are boring as feck. Surely the draw percentage in these countries is a lot higher than in NZ, Aus, SA, Eng and WI? Do cricinfo have stats like that?

I think that might have something to do with the pitches prepared by curators on the subcontinent. They're flat slow roads, which turn late in the day. Pitches in Australia are generally prepared so there's something there for the bowlers too.

I hate cricket. I swear it used to only be on during the summer when the football season was finished, but now it seems like england play every sodding day.. And don't we know about it. Every bloody day i have to put up with boring drivell on talksport or sky sports news about how rubbish england are, kevin pieterson, alistair cook who is apparantly the worst captain ever, the ashes went on for bloody months and then when that was finished someone thought it would be a good idea to play another 100 matches against australia - as if the first boring ones wasn't enough.

Why don't other sports do this? Why doesn't england fly out to Germany and play 3 matches in 1 week, 5 weeks in a row or whatever it bloody is. And then say "ooh now its our turn Germany you come to us and play the same game over and over and over again for a couple of months."

I just wish there was an option somehow where whenever someone was gonna talk about the cricket i could flick a switch and listen to something that is actually interesting.

Its a prototype model, but am sure they will work out all the chinks one day.

Telegraph reporting Peter Moores is set to be sacked. Also suggesting that Jason Gillespie is the favourite to take over.

He should never have been reappointed. What a cock up by the ECB.

At least Strauss seems like a sensible appointment. I still remember his big century against India in the 2011 World Cup  Sachin made 121 for India, and the fans were going berserk. Once Andrew hit 100, they started to leave  No-one is allowed to outdo Sachin in India.

But yeah, he knows the modern game. Hopefully it works out well for all involved.

Not a fan of the Strauss appointment at all, too much of an 'old boys' clique' vibe going on.

Moores still only 52. Will probably be given a 3rd and 4th shot at the job before he retires.

More than not allowing to outdo, people might have been leaving assuming game is lost by then.

For many though, cricket was about Sachin. Remember the 2002 NatWest final in England when India chased down 326? When India were 140 odd for 5 and Sachin got out, most had switched off TV. So much so, the guy who won the match, Kaif, his own family had switched off TV and gone to watch movie. When asked, they innocently said, "Well Sachin got out, so we thought game is over"

"Pakistan will host India in UAE for 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20Is in December, subject to government approval."

 Should be good.

It will be good for India :D

India won't win the Test series. Don't really rate their bowling attack on flat tracks. Misbah, Younis and Azhar are solid players and all very underrated in the longer form. Pakistan haven't lost a "home" series since late 2007. Looking forward to the England tour of UAE as well, I'm expecting yet another whitewash.

Is Kohli the Test captain?

@Samid agree. I don't fancy India in tests until we sort the bowling out, and the batsmen mature.

It will be boring draw probably, the Pak-India series. Still it is good to have that series after long time.

Of course Pietersen spanks a personal best when his team was 164-5 and the first team batting only scored 292.

What's the highest score in the counties since Laras 501?

  • 501* BC Lara: Warwicks v Durham, Edgbaston 1994
  • 424 AC MacLaren: Lancashire v Somerset, Taunton 1895
  • 405* GA Hick: Worcestershire v Somerset, Taunton 1988
  • 366 NH Fairbrother: Lancashire v Surrey, The Oval 1990
  • 357* R Abel: Surrey v Somerset, The Oval 1899
This is actually hysterical. KP has won this battle whatever Strauss/ECB do tomorrow.

It's actually ridiculous that he isn't in the side. You'd think grown men could put aside their differences for the benefit of the team.

They are going to destroy us!

Mental if thats correct. Probably is though, don't see any other reason why they would have called it tonight if not.

Farewell sweet prince. Gotta take some stones to tell someone they're not wanted after they've just scored 326*.

If definite then it could be taken either way, strong direction from Strauss or a stupid agenda, perhaps it doesn't look good after today but I think it was important to not to let it linger on. However it wouldn't hurt to have a door half open would it? Also the mixed signals coming from Graves and now Strauss and Harrison doesn't bode well at all, who is running the show?

I'm more angry than when he was sacked in the first place. Which is impressive, because I was livid then.

Messed the poor guy around just to treat him like shit again.

As a huge KP fan I was terribly disappointed by his behavior post being dropped, I would have wanted him to go back to County cricket and win his place back. Now that he is playing County and got a few runs all Strauss needed to say was that he will have no biases and will pick based on merit. Forget KP but this is a huge slap on the face of all English cricketers outside the first team right now, it's basically saying that you can do as well as you can but if we don't like you then we won't pick you
