Cricket

49 I think. 3 an over should be doable - Even for Trott.

I guess we don't have to worry about it now, haha.

Root MOTM for me, but plenty of positives to take from that. When's the last time Cook made two 50s in a test match?

Great win.

Against India last year? I remember him getting out in 90s in first innings and then scoring not out 70 odd in 2nd. 3rd test I think.

Who is Pietersen going to come back in for? That batting lineup doesnt have anyone 'deserving' of dropping in it.

Ballance, Root, Bell - no chance.
Moeen Ali/Stokes - all rounders

He can only come in for someone in middle order and no one of them will be dropped as of now. Ali/Stokes spot is for allrounder and needed as you say. So that too won't happen. Only possibility is, if Trott doesn't score in remaining test of this series and vs NZ, they can push Ballance to open maybe, Root at 3 and KP at 5 after Bell. Given how horrid time Trott had in last Ashes, an out-of-form Trott against Australia pace battery can be problematic for England batting.

We had this discussion up in the thread but I've changed my mind.

Whatever happens Ballance at 3 and Root at 5 are locks, any attempt to move them around is retarded.

If he does come in it should be for Stokes who I don't think is anywhere near good enough, at the minute, for the role he's being picked for. He's not a good enough bowler, quick as he is, for international cricket and his batting strikes much more as 'bowler who can bat a bit' than top order batsman. At the same time I'd drop Jordan and pick someone who can actually bowl well enough. I'm sure they've got big roles to play for England in the future, but neither are good enough right now.

I'd like to see something like this for the first Ashes test.

Cook, Trott/Lyth/AnyopenerthatstakesaclaiminCC, Ballance, Bell, Root, Pietersen, Ali, Buttler, Plunkett/Wood, Anderson, Broad

One bowler down (although Stokes has taken 1 wicket for 214 runs and Jordan 5 wickets @45 with strike rates of 342 and 104 respectively so we're hardly losing any wicket taking threat) does bring worries about Broad and Anderson's workload, but theres 5 bowlers in that side still.

Even if Pietersen doesn't come in I'd still drop the pair and bring Woakes in shifting Ali and Buttler up the order.

No way will England go for only 4 bowlers, that'd be way too much pressure on Ali. He shows promise but he needs to show he can hold down an end first and contain the opposition. He's still liable to send down a couple of bad balls an over. But as he's a batsmen with part time spin till last summer he's learning fast.

Had Woakes not got injured he'd probably have been a lock, but as he's out for 6 weeks an opportunity for someone I guess. Though I expect our line up for the first test will be what we played here with Woakes in for Jordan. Maybe Stokes will play himself out the team by then too in which case Plunkett will probably step in.

Well its all a bit academic I guees, Pietersen getting out to Ryder in the CC isn't going to strike fear into the Aussies.

Ah just checked the score of Pakistan-Bangladesh. Bangladesh collapsed I see later in innings and Pakistan look all set to post huge score. If not anything, at least Pakistan's losing sequence against Bangladesh will halt.

That Bangladesh scorecard. How are they scoring so quickly

 This is awful. Pakistan had a wonderful chance of winning this match.

Yeah, didn't get him going back as an opener....a odd one giving Cooks form. If they wanted experience to go with Cook up top, Bell or Root.....which will probably be the case.

Get the feck in Cooky.

Batted well today, even if its hardly been the worlds most entertaining knock.

Trott fails again. Been a very good player, but that should be the final time he bats in a Test match.

Wonderfully set up.

Going to be a great watch, the next session at least.

The pitch hasn't been that bad has it?
Nope, it is not. It's a good pitch. Good batsmen can make runs and bowlers will take wickets.

It is definitely not a 130 all out pitch.

Chris Jordan is the best slip catcher in the world.

Batsmen from all around the world struggle when pitches offer the tiniest amount of help to the bowlers, thesedays...thanks to featherbeds and Mickey Mouse cricket.

England will feel they missed a big chance of away series win. It was attritional cricket for first two tests and despite a great fight by West Indies, England had done well to be 1-0 after 2 tests. It must be more frustrating because England got a handy first innings lead in 3rd test. A target of 275 would have given them win. NZ imo start favorites now vs England.

I hate cricket. I swear it used to only be on during the summer when the football season was finished, but now it seems like england play every sodding day.. And don't we know about it. Every bloody day i have to put up with boring drivell on talksport or sky sports news about how rubbish england are, kevin pieterson, alistair cook who is apparantly the worst captain ever, the ashes went on for bloody months and then when that was finished someone thought it would be a good idea to play another 100 matches against australia - as if the first boring ones wasn't enough.

Why don't other sports do this? Why doesn't england fly out to Germany and play 3 matches in 1 week, 5 weeks in a row or whatever it bloody is. And then say "ooh now its our turn Germany you come to us and play the same game over and over and over again for a couple of months."

I just wish there was an option somehow where whenever someone was gonna talk about the cricket i could flick a switch and listen to something that is actually interesting.

Thanks for taking time out and explaining to us your feelings about Cricket. We all will have a long hard look at ourselves in mirror for having the audacity to follow this sport and have thread about it.
