Interesting to see what KP does now, I think he was ready to play IPL knockouts and the team that signed him are on course to make the knockouts so wonder if he will travel

I think Strauss should just come out tomorrow and state actual reasons for not picking him. England fans should know the proper background rather than just the vague personality bullshit

The 'actual reasons' are just shit though. Pretty much what AC said, or simply that they don't like him.

Neither will go down well.

Strauss didn't actually have to call this meeting at all, he could have just not picked him or waited. Neither of which would have drawn much consternation, I mean if KP didn't wait it out and went T20 globetrotting again then they could have had something to level at him not being committed but axing him again after scoring 326* when the next highest score on his team was 36 (from Kumar flipping Sangakarra no less) is just stupid. Players aren't always going to be best mates, it's one of the challenges of managing a team and in fact Strauss shouldn't even be making this call it should be the incumbent coach. Strauss has come into this job and he's just made the exact same mistake Downton did, it's probably even worse because he has hindsight.

I'm not English and I know nothing about cricket but will you call up or not call up that KP fecker so I can stop hearing about it please.

Well this is exactly what happened the last time as well, there is a difference between not picking him for the team and not considering him at all. Even when he was removed the first time there was no selection meeting but just a random announcement that he won't be picked anymore, just utter shambles

I think Strauss' new job role gives him selection power, which is something that Downton didn't actually have, which made his decision all the worse.

I think Strauss probably made the decision for good enough reasons, but I feel so sorry for the bloke that he played for Surrey for free to have a chance of getting back in because of what Graves said and he never had a chance.

Ridiculous state of the dinosaurs within English cricket. Really are 20 years behind nearly every other major nation.

You wouldn't think these are grown men supposedly playing a gentleman's sport. They just need to pick the best players for the job especially after that atrocious showing in the Windies.

Damn, he pulled out of his $200k IPL contract for this, didn't he?

Apparently KP said it was £250,000, he's also donating all his wages for playing for Surrey to charity.

The meeting was arranged a couple of days ago too. Piers Morgan was on Talk Sport talking about it this afternoon, just as KP took it past 300 with yet another 6. As much as I dislike Piers Morgan, the man knows his cricket and he is passionate about the sport and especially English cricket. He has been on his best mates bandwagon for a recall for ages, and on this one he is bang on.

Piers was saying today that the meeting was arranged a couple of days ago and he was sure (because of something Atherton put in his paper column) that the meeting was so they could tell KP he wasn't going to play for England again. He also went on to say (and was backed up by Darren Gough, Shane Warne, Hoggard, Flintoff, Atherton, Bumble, Harmison, Botham, Gower, and many more) that if they didn't change their mind and call him back up that it could be the biggest mistake the ECB have ever made and they will come out of it looking awful and it may take a while to recover from it. Piers also said it was unthinkable they would drop him again after promising him if he played County cricket he would be considered and especially after a knock of 326 not out.

So Piers, wrong again and the unthinkable has happened.

ECB as clueless and corrupt and as full of stuck up old cnuts as Fifa.

I generally have soft spot for England team but if Strauss and co. told KP he won't be picked so soon after yesterday's innings, I will hope you get whitewashed by both NZ and Aussies. As it is except Root and to some extent Bell, other batsmen of yours bore the shit out of those watching. On top of that they are not considering KP.

The petulance in all this is at football levels at this point.....difference is, in football(just like in the real world working environments)....people still manage to WORK together through crap like this. It is actually just coming across as bullying now, which is a shame because I thought Pietersen was kinda overselling that angle a tad.

I guess they'll just throw out the textgate stuff and that he killed it with his book today.

Doesn't come across as bullying to me.

He loaded his own gun when he released that book, he should have waited until the end of his career. Only a few people know what was actually written in those texts and in the real world, if you do that (no matter how good you are) it will be very difficult to recover.

I personally want to see him back and think it is the wrong decision, however if I was KP I would completely understand why there would be no why back and scoring 300 odd in a county game isn't going to change any minds.

It's hard to feel sorry for KP / Strauss, the losers in all of this are the England cricket fans.

Strauss has confirmed Jason fecking Gillespie is a candidate to be the coach of the fecking England Cricket team. Many will label him a traitor if he takes the job. I won't.

What if Gillespie wants KP - surely as a coach he has some right to have an opinion on selection?

Neither will I.

He would be the best candidate as coach. He will get them playing hard and good cricket.

I'd hate to see another one sided ashes series. Doesn't bother me who wins, i want exciting cricket from both sides and a contest. Gillespie in charge can provide that.

That is exactly the issue the ECB face now, what top coach is going to join the England setup knowing that he isn't even going to be able to work with the best players?
I'm kind of on the fence on this one, you can't possibly doubt the ability of the guy. But serious baggage, he's fallen out with counties and no one within England over the last couple of years is willing to back him. No smoke without fire? If it wasn't for textgate and his book he'd still be the first name on the teamsheet, he has to accept some of the blame for what has happened.

If there's an issue with trust why was he being offered an advisory role for England's 50 over game? I don't get the logic.

Totally agree.

I think even KP himself would admit (via text obviously) the book and it's timing was a mistake (why not save that shit for a few years Kevin) and the whole text gate thing is a little bit of a grey area, as only a few people will know what was actually sent / how it was sent / and inevitably what texts were deleted forever without being discovered.

But as the door was left open, and if some batsmen are struggling for form, I just can't see how the new coach (whose head will be on the chopping board) won't want to suggest bringing him in, which makes the whole Strauss press conference a little bit irrelevant and point scoring.

Saying that it is funny to hear Piers flap around.

Probably a bit like when a company wants you out and then offers you a job on half salary, at least they can then turn round and say to the rest of the work force "well, we did offer him a job to stay" (knowing full well you would walk away).

Saving face, although they didn't think it through because it actually makes them look massively contradictory.

Not many agree with the decision. Some obviously KPs friends but a lot of them respected in the game. Its truly a bizarre decision, some what vindictive.

Arent most of the players that didnt like KP out of the team anyway (I remember Gough saying it was only around three anyway).

But can you have a doos as Director? I'm just happy that this saga has taught me the word 'doos'.

As Strauss said he's just a crunt. You can't have crunts in a team. End of.

Then why the statements by Graves that he'd be given a clean slate and would be given a chance if he makes runs in County?

The bloke surrendered his IPL contract for this opportunity and now he's been treated like this. KP has every right to feel aggrieved.

After the WC debacle if there was any possible way for the ECB to go even lower in public eyes then they have successfully done it. All they needed to do was to stay quiet on the KP front, he was going for the IPL and there is no way ECB would have been expected to pick him if he wasn't playing County cricket. Alas they decided to open their mouth starting from Graves and now they have ended up with piss on their face. Again as KP said all they needed to say in the meeting was that we are ok with the batting and if someone loses form or gets injured we will keep you in mind but hey trust >>>>runs

Why would he be labelled a traitor?

I say good luck to him, he was a very good player for us over the years. He should be able to coach/work for whoever he pleases.

There'll be some who feel cheesed off at an Aussie coaching England. I don't have an issue with him coaching England if he wants it. I think it's his if he wants it, and I'll be wishing him well.
