Cricket

Yeah it was kind of grubby, but the last thing we need is the ICC getting involved and fining Kohli. Just let it happen

Don't see a problem with giving him just a fine. It was a stupid and intentional incident from Kohli, albeit one that wasn't serious to cause injury, so he should be punished for it. You can't allow players to go around engaging in physical contact whenever they're being rattled.

According to the rules it's a clear case for a fine.

I would have said Kohli sledging him was a bit pathetic but basically okay but to purposefully barge into him was embarrassing.

He's a long history of doing stuff like this, but to a young lad on debut about 20 minutes into day 1 is a bit much. Shouldn't just be swept under the carpet and ignored, he can't just go around doing whatever he wants.

Doesn’t make any sense why you have Nitish and Sundar and haven’t bowled them yet almost 40 overs in. We have such a shit bowling attack. Shami was a good 2nd pacer. Ever since he got injured India has struggled to find a good #2 to Bumrah.

It looks like a team picked with the primary objective of getting Rohit into the top order.

Konstas looked good. That’s a Greek name isn’t it, must be first in test cricket (although there’s a cricket pitch in the middle of Corfu city). Kohli being a bit of a cunstas should land him in hot water, the ICC won’t stand for that type of behaviour. Good day for Australia so far but a couple of wickets before the close might change things.

The truth, if you ignore the scoreline, is that we've been very average and outclassed by a decent Australian side, and they've been held at bay by Bumrah's brilliance(and some help from the weather)

The series in my mind is a lot closer to 3-0 than 1-1 if I were to assess it till now

350 has been competitive in first innings in Australia recent times, and it looked like they were going to canter to 350 today. I caught some of the play and one bowling end looked like we were fielding the Indian team from 2000s.

Some of it is temporary(we will find new batters as there are some good ones to come), but bowling's a bit of a conundrum at the moment.

Yep, should be the end of Gambhir, Siraj, Sharma and Kohli in tests, Gill has to earn his way back outside India.

Pak vs SA poised nicely. If Pak gets a few crucial wickets early and get a handy 20-50 runs lead, it will get really interesting.
Just like ODI, I feel like SA is going thru transition in tests as well.

How is it closer to 3-0 when we won the first test by close to a record margin. 2-1 is probably a fair reflection but them is the breaks. Our batting is now going through a transition. I would argue that other than Pant we do not have a peak test batsmen in the line up right who is assured of their spot. That is pretty dire. Then we also made it worse by having zero game plan for bowling selection.

Our current batting line up mess has been years in the making. People are crying over Pujara & Rahane now but they were given a very long rope which has had some impact on there not being a deep bench of sorts. The main middle order batsman who was the highest in pecking order was Iyer. At one point he was first choice ahead of Gill. He has the obvious weakness against the short ball but then a lot of time was sunk in getting him into the team. Then likes of Gill and KL Rahul have just not been consistent enough. They would look good every now and then but ultimately their record is proof they lack consistency.

Add to it Rohit who IMO has been badly advised. He really should have just retired from international cricket after T20 WC. It would be crazy if he is planning to hang around till next ODI WC and let selectors let him be. In tests, he had one great purple patch across years but otherwise he is not a test match great by any means. He should be dropped from the team completely after this series. Kohli also needs to be a give time frame after which a call will have to be taken. Sachin, he is not.

That game looks a lot different if not for a freak Bumrah performance. That batting performance is not an independent event. It reminds me of that Ashes England won 2-1 under Strauss. They won the sessions needed to win the series but when you watch the games it doesn’t look representative. That’s how i feel about our performance in this series. Despite todays middling performance barring Bumrah, we are still in it tomorrow.

Pant is great but been poor this series.

Don’t get your last paragraph. Virat averages 31 in the past 5 years. This is like the stat of a bowling all rounder playing at 8. What’s he done that Rohit has not to deserve more time? This is 5 years.. it’s a huge chunk of his career. I bet if we check for overlap with Pujara and Rahane we will find that they have similar stats.

It sounds like a made up stat but that’s how misleading media coverage of Virat Kohli is.

I hope we go to England with a revamped batting side. I think we have great talent and they need to be given games. I’d even take a punt on Jurel at 4.

The weird thing about this Indian team is just like that Perth test when you criticise the selection etc they somehow win the games but overall though the process is completely wrong. The number of changes in the batting lineup & order since the NZ series is absolutely incredible & mostly senseless.

It’s cause they have to shoe horn legends and big names rather than letting youngsters who are actually in form play and develop. Lot of egos going around and it will never change. The youngsters now when they get to their latter stages will do the same.

Crucial first hour for the whole series you’d think, couple of wickets it’s India’s, next wicket puts on >50 it’s Australia’s.

How much are we going to hear about this Kohli shit? I remember this from Johnson like yesterday so its hilarious listening to the Aussies crying about the incident.

Remember when Ricky Pointing removed the bails without anyone seeing and claimed the batsmen was out?

Just heard from the commentators that Steven Smith averages 84.80 in the 1st innings of a test match.

That is just incredible, especially when you've played over 100 tests.

Who is crying about this? Like the Siraj shit in Adelaide, most Australian’s don’t care. If anything it makes Kohli look poor but otherwise we don’t care.

Bumrah had never been hit for a 6 in his test career before this match. 4 in this innings alone

His 4th innings average of 32.58 is very similar to England's own Chris Woakes who averages 32.44 batting last.
I just wish Chris could average 85 in the 1st innings.

I don't understand what the big deal is about scoring 100 in the 4th innings of a test match. The general idea is you get a big score in the 1st innings (typically by batting first, if the conditions suit) and then use that to your advantage. Smith over the last 15 years has helped make sure the Aussies have been able to do that on multiple occasions. IMLTHO he has been the best test batsman of this generation. Possibly, with the exception of Bradman, the best test batsman of all time. I've been watching test cricket for over 50 years and he's certainly the best test batsman I've ever seen.

Just to add, it's not like other great batsman have a huge number of 4th innings 100s either. I just looked it up; Root has 2, and Kohli has 2. Also, I would point out that if the other Australian batters were a bit better, he more than likely would have a century in the 4th innings since he carried his bat and finished 91 not out opening against the Windies earlier this year.

 Got to laugh at then Indian fans who come up with this sort of response which has been common over social media. Instead of just acknowledging that Kohli is behaving like an absolute bellend, they mention other historical incidents where other players have behaved like bellends like it’s some gotcha moment.
